Chapter 83. Beggars Can’t be Choosers
Succubi Chapter 83. Beggars Can’t be Choosers
She hovered in front of me and was bleeding.
Bad.
She hissed. The sound warped the air, made it tremble like water touched by thunder. “You should’ve begged,” she whispered.
“I thought I did,” I rasped. “Guess I’ll do better in hell.”
She surged forward. I tensed to meet her— and then my system flared.
[Warning! An outside presence has breached the pocket dimension!]

[Combat Flow Interrupted]
“What the hell—?” I didn’t even get the full sentence out before the shadow dropped.
It wasn’t subtle.
It ripped through the air like the sound barrier owed it money.
A blur. Faster than anything I’d ever seen—faster than Virelya, faster than me, faster than thought.
My heart hammered from pure adrenaline and confusion. Because this could only mean two things. Either I was about to get killed by a second boss-tier threat…
Or someone had just arrived to save my ass.
The shadow blitzed straight toward Virelya.
She reacted—barely. Tried to move, to sidestep, to counter—but it was already past her.
I blinked.
It looked like it missed.
But then—
Virelya stopped.
Frozen mid-air, mouth open in silent shock.
And then?
More blood.
So much more.
She gasped.
“You—” she choked out, voice cracking not with fear… but realization. Her body shook. Her hands trembled.
And then she collapsed.
Dropped.
Like a severed thread.
Her body crumpled to the ground with a splash of blood that hissed against the floor like hot oil on water.

The system notifications lit up like a parade. But I barely registered any of it.
Because my eyes were locked on the shadow now standing where Virelya had been.
She was bathed in blood. Not hers.
It ran down her face in a sharp crimson streak. Her arms were covered, her dual blades glistened with fresh kill. Her black succubus armor shimmered with dark leather and midnight silk, stained and torn in all the right places—still somehow elegant, even soaked in death. Her wings were flared wide, edged with glowing runes. Her horns curled back like daggers.
And her eyes—
Oh, those weren’t the same warm, teasing eyes I knew.
Those eyes were cold. Focused. Drenched in fury that hadn’t been spent yet.
“...Evelyn,” I breathed. My voice cracked.
She turned.
And even through the rage on her face, the second she saw me standing there—shaking, bleeding, but alive—her expression broke.
“Evan?” Evelyn’s voice hit like a balm. She ran across the room so fast the blood mist hadn’t settled yet.
My Shadow Blade shattered into smoke as I finally—finally—let my legs give out.
I dropped to my knees.
“Shit—!” she caught me before I fully faceplanted.
Warm arms. Cold armor. Blades shifting behind my back as she pulled me into a half-sit, half-collapse.
“You’re bleeding everywhere,” she whispered, panic finally catching up to her voice.
I managed a weak grin. “I know. It’s a new fashion statement. Blood-chic.”
She looked like she wanted to slap me. Or cry. Or both.
I tried to lift my hand. “It’s okay. I’ll just use… Dark Healing…”
I cast it.
Nothing happened.
[Error: Insufficient Demonic Power]
[Skill Failed to Activate]
“Yeah,” I muttered. “Cool. That’s… that’s cool…”
“Evan.” Her voice dropped again—worried, sharp. “You’re going to pass out if we stay here. I’m taking you to Sera. Now.”
[System Alert: Pocket Dimension Stability Critical – Immediate Collapse Imminent]
[Warning: Structural integrity of the simulation environment is deteriorating. Evacuation recommended.]
And it was. The walls were breaking apart. Fissures of glowing lines ran through the cracked stones like divine code unraveling the arena. The air smelled like burnt mana and sea rot. Everything was shaking.
But all I could think about was—
“What about my test?” I asked, deadpan.
Evelyn froze. “Are you serious right now?!”
I nodded weakly. “I need the money.”
She stared at me like I’d grown a second head.
Which, at this point, honestly wouldn’t have surprised me.
“You almost died, Evan,” she said through clenched teeth.
“But I passed, right?” I asked, grinning like a lunatic.
She groaned. “Lilith will handle it.”
And just like that, she picked me up.
I expected a princess carry. Or at least a piggyback. Some romantic dramatics maybe.
But no.
Evelyn slung me over her shoulder like a potato sack.
A literal demon potato sack.
My pride died faster than Virelya.
“...Really?” I wheezed. “This is how we’re doing this?”
“It’s fast,” she snapped.
“Not very dignified.”
“I could drag you instead.”
“…Please don’t drag me.”
We sprinted through the unraveling dimension, Evelyn weaving between collapsing stone and spiraling demon magic. The world bent around us— twisting, broken geometry splitting open like fractured glass. Each step shook the floor beneath her boots, and my body jostled with every leap she made.
I was slung over her shoulder like a sack of potatoes—head down, ass up, dignity out the window.
And sadly… I could only see her back.
If she could reversed my position, let me rest my head against her chest like a proper p*rn romance recovery moment, I’d be way more grateful. But no. Apparently, I was luggage. Discount demon luggage.
Still, beggars can’t be choosers.
“Did you just stab her in the heart?” I asked, my voice muffled slightly by the sheer humiliation of my position.
“Twice,” she muttered. “And then the throat. Then the heart again. I wasn’t taking chances.”
“…Hot.”
“Evan.”
“I meant it respectfully.”
She sighed.
The portal ahead blinked into existence—slashed open by the system in response to boss defeat. We made it through just as the floor behind us cracked entirely, vanishing into black water and static.
Light blinded us.
Then—
We were back. Well… not really back, but transported.
In the simulation tower infirmary room. White lights. Monitors. Observers.
And a very startled Sera holding a clipboard.
“...What the hell happened in there?!” she demanded.
Evelyn dropped me like luggage at her feet.
“Fix him,” she ordered.
“Damn, okay—” Sera crouched, casting a glowing green glyph over my chest. “He looks like he got hit by a shipwreck.”
“Thank you!” I gasped dramatically. “Finally, someone notices.”
“Shut up and hold still.” Sera smacked my forehead lightly.
Evelyn stood behind her, arms crossed, eyes still burning with whatever nightmare she’d gone through to reach me.
But she didn’t say anything.
Not yet.
And me?
I just lay there, dazed, sore, and wondering what the hell came next.
But one thing was sure.
I was going to survive.
Barely.
