Chapter 42. Piggy Back Ride
Succubi Chapter 42. Piggy Back Ride
We parted ways with Leon at the gates, and honestly? He looked like he was about to collapse from joy and exhaustion at the same time. The guy waved us off with a lazy grin, his sleeves tied around his waist, hair still a mess but pride fully intact.
“Tell Sera I said thanks,” he called out.
Sera, still slumped on my back like a bundled-up sloth burrito, didn’t even twitch.
“She’s right here, dude,” I muttered.
Leon just gave a shrug and vanished down the hallway toward the male residential area, probably on a direct course to his bed, a meat pie, or both.
Evelyn walked beside me as we turned toward the Scarlet Rose Estate. She didn’t say much at first, just adjusted the strap of my bag now resting on her shoulder like it was no big deal. She’d insisted on helping carry it, and I didn’t exactly have a free hand since I had one sloth-grade succubus latched to my back like a baby koala.
Ah… I still didn’t understand how someone like Evelyn had Envy as her sin affinity. I mean, she didn’t act jealous. Didn’t get possessive. She looked calm. Composed. Mature, even. Like someone I’d ask for life advice and who’d actually give me the answer without rolling her eyes.
The sun was out. Warm breeze brushing my skin. Birds doing the chirp thing up in the trees like they had nothing better to do. It was definitely nicer than yesterday. The sky was clean, the air smelled faintly of tea leaves and some flower the academy gardeners used. But of course… I couldn’t enjoy it.
Because I was drawing attention again.
And not the fun kind.
Like before, sure, some students looked at me because of the demonic aura glow-up or whatever residual magic still clung to my body. But this time? Was next-level.
Everyone. Was. Staring.
And this time it wasn’t just the aura, or the bag, or the tired-but-slightly-cool outfit.
Nope.
It was Sera clinging to my back like a child who skipped nap time and declared me her personal bed-slash-vehicle.
Girls gawked. Boys gawked harder. A couple of fae whispered to each other and then actually giggled. I heard phrases like “dom-sub goals” and “is that the genius from House of Saints?” being thrown around.
And of course, Sera was just snoozing peacefully. Her cheek pressed against my shoulder. Not a single ounce of shame in her slumber.
I huffed and turned slightly toward Evelyn. “I know yesterday was probably your first time meeting Sera. Same as mine. But… since you’re both succubi, do you know anything about her? Like… is she always like this?”
Evelyn tilted her head slightly, expression unreadable. “You mean the part where she asked you for a piggy back?”
“Yeah. That. And the whole… never fully awake thing.”
“Both, then,” Evelyn said, nodding once. “Yeah, that’s normal.”
I blinked. “Wait, seriously?”
“She’s a Sloth type,” Evelyn said. “Sin affinity.”
“I figured that part out.”
“They don’t like to move unless they absolutely have to. They minimize mana output, muscle usage, even blinking if they can get away with it.”
I cringed. “Ugh. Efficiency?”
“Exactly,” Evelyn replied. “To her, unnecessary movement is wasteful. Walking? Wasteful. Talking too much? Wasteful. Using more than five percent of her energy in any given moment? Not happening.”
“I mean, I get it on paper,” I muttered, adjusting her leg slightly so it didn’t slip. “But this would be a nightmare on a battlefield.”
Evelyn smiled faintly. “That’s what most people think. But don’t be fooled.”
“Why, what’s she gonna do—nap at the enemy?”
“You will be surprised.”
“How about the classes? The academy?
“Oh, that. She already hacked the entire academy system.”
I stopped walking for half a second.
“What.”
“She hacked the mainframe,” Evelyn said casually. “With her mana interface. Twice. Once to change the curfew hours on the dorm gates, and another to disable the punishment algorithm when she skipped classes three weeks in a row.”
I just stared.
“Wait. Are you saying she’s a hacker-hacker? Not just a battle system glitcher?”
“She can hack the city’s mana grid if she wanted.”
I blinked. “The… what now?”
“She could reroute the entire transportation barrier network and shut down the capital’s emergency defense walls if she felt like it,” Evelyn continued, still calm. “And I’m not even talking about battle simulations or training modules. I mean real-world systems.”
“…That’s insane.”
“Mmhm.”
Sera stirred slightly, her arms tightening around my shoulders.
Then she whispered, with a sleepy smile, “I can also hack humans’ heads.”
I flinched. “Hey! You’re awake?”
“Technically,” she mumbled, voice muffled by my shirt. “Still sleepy, though.”
“And you’re casually telling me you can mind hack people?”
“Mhm.”
I turned my head a bit. “That’s horrifying.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t hack you unless I’m very bored.”
“Comforting,” I muttered.
She tightened her hug, nuzzling my back like it was the fluffiest body pillow ever created. “But I love my piggy back ride. So I won’t sabotage my transportation.”
“Yeah, no kidding.”
We passed a small group of second-years who literally stopped mid-conversation to watch us go by. One of them pulled out a phone to take a picture.
I glared.
They retreated.
Evelyn glanced at Sera, then said quietly, “She might seem like a lazy girl who naps in the middle of duels and hides under blankets all day, but she also has healing skills and a ton of buffs, manipulation magic—and I’m not just talking about people..”
I blinked. “Wow, that’s… actually so cool.”
Evelyn nodded. “Yup. Sloth-types mostly get powers like that since they’re too lazy to move. So instead, they make the world move around them.”
I cringed. “That’s… yeah. Weirdly makes sense.”
Sera mumbled, “But I have limitations.”
“Oh yeah?”
“I can’t hack feelings.”
I blinked.
“What?”
“I can’t hack love… or hunger… or why some people put pineapple on pizza.”
I stifled a laugh. “You really tried to hack that?”
“Too unpredictable,” she murmured.
We finally reached the outer gates of the Scarlet Rose Estate. The garden path smelled of lilac, washed soil, and faint tea perfume.
I adjusted Sera’s weight on my back and pushed open the door. The familiar scent of rose tea, lavender shampoo, and luxury-grade mana crystals hit me like walking into a spa.
And standing right there in the entryway, arms crossed and smirking like she’d been waiting all evening—Lilith.
Her eyes narrowed playfully as they landed on me. Her long hair curled slightly at the ends. She wore a silk robe tied way too casually for something that fancy, and yeah, I could see a bit of her boobs. So yeah… I was sure she wasn’t wearing a bra. Her smugness in her aura radiated like a status buff.
“Well, well,” she purred, stepping forward. “Our lone rooster returns to the henhouse. And what’s this?”
“Lilith,” I said, sighing. “It’s not what it looks like.”
“Mmhm.” Her eyes slid to Sera on my back. “Is she asleep or just faking it so she can snuggle you longer?”
“I honestly don’t know anymore.”
Evelyn gave Lilith a polite nod and stepped around her to head further inside, still holding my bag like some kind of decent support character. “He carried her all the way back. She fell asleep after the match.”
Lilith blinked. “Wait—she fought?”
Evelyn shook her head. “No. I fought. She’s the healer. I needed her to get official permission for the match.”
Lilith stared at Sera, still clinging to me like a human backpack. “You’re telling me she was the legal requirement?”
“Yep.”
Lilith blinked again, this time slower. “…Typical.” She arched a brow, one hand on her hip, smirking. “So, you planning to wear her for the rest of the night?”
“I’m trying to put her down,” I said, shifting my hands as I crouched slightly to let Sera slide off.
Except—she didn’t.
Instead, her arms tightened around me like some full-body clamp. Her legs locked in, sloth-mode activated.
“Ugh—Sera,” I muttered. “Let go.”
She nuzzled her face against the back of my neck and mumbled, “No.”
“Sera.”
“I like Evan,” she said, voice syrupy and soft. “He’s comforting.”
I froze.
Evelyn blinked.
Lilith smirked. “Oh? So that’s your new title now? Evan the Comforting. How cute.”
“Not helping,” I grunted, trying again to loosen her grip. “She’s latched on like a cursed plushie.”
“Cursed? Rude,” Sera whispered.
“Sera. Bed. Now.”
“No legs.”
“Then crawl!”
She groaned. “Evan, just walk to my bed.”
Evelyn sighed and walked ahead without another word, disappearing into the hallway.
Lilith leaned in closer to me, amusement flickering in her eyes. “You know, if you’re going to carry her to her room, at least make sure you tuck her in properly.”
“I am not her babysitter.”
“You sure look like it.”
I sighed, standing back up, Sera still glued to my back like a sleepy mana-leech. “This dorm’s gonna be the death of me.”
Sera yawned. “Nah. I’ll protect you.”
“Oh great. I feel so safe now.”
Lilith giggled as she stepped aside, letting us pass. “Welcome home, Evan.”
“Yeah,” I muttered, trudging down the hall. “Home sweet chaos.”
