Chapter 41. Anti Flirt Energy
Succubi Chapter 41. Anti Flirt Energy
We both turned to watch Sera reach Ares.
He looked up, still kneeling on one knee. His pristine clothes were scuffed and streaked with dirt—but his hair still had that somehow-perfect wave like he styled it between sword swings.
Sera stood in front of him like a sleepy priestess.
She raised her hand. “...Heal.”
Same glow. Same slow, divine hum. The light enveloped him, and every scratch, bruise, and internal boo-boo just poofed. Gone. In five seconds flat.
Ares stood up slowly, then flashed her what I assume he thought was a charming smile. The kind that probably worked on freshmen who didn’t know better or enchanted mirror spirits who fed off delusion.
“Thank you,” he said, voice smooth. “I must’ve looked really bad, huh?” He chuckled lightly and even tilted his head, letting a strand of golden hair fall just slightly into his eyes like he practiced it in front of a mirror.
Sera blinked at him.
Undeterred, he stepped a bit closer—too close—and lowered his voice. “I’ll try to be more careful next time. Wouldn’t want to worry someone like you again.” Then came the lean. That subtle forward dip, hands behind his back like he was some harmless gentleman and not a knight with a god complex.
He even lowered his gaze for a half-second before glancing up with what I can only describe as the “forbidden prince” look. The eyes, the slight curve of his lips, the breathy voice. “You’ve got a gentle touch. Kinda rare in this place.” His smile deepened. “Do you do private healing too?”
My jaw dropped.
Leon gagged beside me. “Oh god. He’s serious.”
I choked. “Ew—he’s trying to rizz her.”
Sera stared at him like he just asked if grass could cry.
She gave a slow, dull shake head.
Then turned and walked away.
No words. No interest. Just pure anti-flirt energy.
I turned to Leon. “Did you hear that?”
Leon looked nauseated. “I felt it in my spine.”
“It was like watching someone try to seduce a rock.”
“A sleepy rock.”
Ares stood there for a second too long. His smile wilted. His pride—still cracked from earlier—got another stomp.
He turned away, muttering something about “cold hearts” and “dignity,” but we were too busy making ugly cringe faces like we just ate sour lemons with guilt seasoning.
Leon whispered, “I think I lost HP listening to that.”
“Yeah,” I said, shivering. “It was emotionally corrosive.”
Sera plopped herself back down next to us.
“I did my job,” she mumbled. “Can I nap now?”
“You earned it,” I said, patting her shoulder. “Flirting defense shield was top tier.”
“I wasn’t even trying,” she muttered.
“Exactly.”
She sank lower, like a turtle retreating into her shell.
Leon sat cross-legged, sipping the last bits of his smoothie. “Hey, Evan?”
“Yeah?”
“You ever think we might be the normal ones here?”
I glanced across the field. Evelyn, still flawless. Ares, sulking. The assassin guy doing push-ups for no reason. Sera half-asleep mid-snore.
I sipped my own breath, because my smoothie was gone. “…No.”
Leon laughed. “Yeah. Me neither.”
We both exhaled.
But then… Snrrrrrrrrrk
A long, drawn-out snore echoed through the now mostly empty arena.
We both turned our heads in sync.
Sera.
Flat on her back. One arm splayed to the side, the other draped over her face. Her hair a tangled halo of barely brushed strands. Her mouth slightly open. Breathing like she was halfway to another dimension.
Leon blinked. “She knocked out that fast?”
“She’s a pro,” I sighed, standing up and brushing off my pants. “Right. Guess I need to take her back.”
Leon raised an eyebrow. “You sure she’ll let you? I heard Sera punched a guy once for touching her while she was mid-nap.”
“I live dangerously,” I muttered.
I walked toward her, muttering something about how I should start charging her nap-taxi fares. I crouched beside her, poked her cheek lightly. “Hey. Sera. Time to go.”
Nothing.
I leaned in closer. “Seraaaa—”
Her only response was a shift in position and a half-mumbled word that sounded like “mmm…pudding…”
“Okay,” I sighed. “Plan B.”
I slid my arms under her gently, preparing for a smooth princess carry—because hey, it’s dignified. Classy. Kind of elegant, even.
But before I could lift—
“What do you think you’re doing?”
I turned, and yep. Of course. Ares.
Standing there all shiny again, arms crossed, expression somewhere between knightly concern and nosy big brother.
“I’m carrying her,” I said flatly. “Because she’s asleep. On a combat arena floor. You know. Not the nap zone.”
He narrowed his eyes. “That’s highly inappropriate. Do you have no regard for her dignity?”
Leon facepalmed behind me. “Here we go…”
“She’s unconscious,” Ares continued. “She can’t consent to being carried. Especially like that.”
I blinked. “Bro, this isn’t a fanfic. I’m just getting her out of here.”
“She’s a respected healer of the House of Saints.”
“I know.”
“She deserves to be treated with care and respect.”
“I am treating her with care!”
“Then wait for her to wake up!”
“She’ll wake up in, like, three days if we do that!”
Leon casually sat down on the arena step again, sipping what was left of his smoothie, watching us like it was premium theater. “I love drama.”
Ares took a step forward. “You can’t just pick her up like she’s cargo.”
“Oh for—” I stood up, glaring now. “Look. I live with her.”
His face froze. “What?”
“I said I live with her.”
“You… what?!”
“Yeah. I stay at Scarlet Rose Estate. Same dorm.”
His jaw dropped a little. “But—that’s the female dorm!”
“Not my idea,” I said, throwing my hands up. “The academy screwed up my placement form. I filed a request to fix it and they ghosted me. Blame the admin office.”
“You’re staying in an all-girls estate.”
“Yes.”
“Full of combat-ready elite students.”
“Yes.”
“And no one has kicked you out yet?”
“Nope.”
Ares just stood there. Frozen. Processing. Blue screen of moral panic.
I turned back to Sera. “Anyway. Back to the sleeping burrito.”
This time, I gently slid one arm under her knees and the other around her back—ready for the classic princess carry.
Then—slap.
She swatted me.
Eyes still closed.
“Mmm. No.”
I froze. “Huh?”
“Don’t wanna be carried like that,” she murmured.
I leaned closer. “Sera, you’re not walking.”
“Piggy back.”
I blinked. “Seriously?”
“Piggyyyyyy back,” she mumbled, nuzzling deeper into the floor tile like it was her emotional support pillow.
Leon laughed so hard he choked. “Dude. She rejected the princess carry?”
“Apparently,” I muttered.
“She just solo’d your main character moment.”
Ares, still processing, looked offended on my behalf. “That’s… undignified.”
“You know what, I don’t care anymore.” I crouched again. “Alright, Sera. Hop on.”
She didn’t hop, obviously. But she kind of… rolled. Limped onto my back like a blanket with legs, wrapping her arms around my neck and pressing her cheek against my shoulder.
I adjusted her legs, held onto her thighs, and stood up with a grunt. “Wow. You’re lighter than I expected.”
“Fluffy mana weight,” she whispered sleepily.
Leon gave us both a thumbs up. “Ten outta ten. Best carry form.”
Ares was still fuming. “This is improper. You’re walking around with a girl from the House of Saints on your back like she’s luggage.”
“I prefer ‘portable healer,’” I said, turning to leave. “If she starts snoring again, I’ll just use her like a mana-powered backpack.”
From my shoulder, Sera muttered, “Zzz… I’m not luggage… I’m expensive…”
Leon was dying of laughter behind us.
Evelyn finally walked over, watching with an unreadable expression. “Is that how we’re ending this?”
“Yeah,” I said. “This is the natural conclusion of everything we just witnessed.”
She looked at Sera, then at me, then shrugged. “Just don’t drop her.”
“I’d never.”
Sera yawned. “If you do, I’ll hex your knees.”
“See?” I grinned. “Mutual trust.”
Ares groaned into his palm like his entire code of honor had been violated.
“Let’s go,” I said, starting toward the exit with Sera snoozing peacefully against my back. “Some of us need sleep. Others need therapy.”
Leon waved. “See you back at the estate, emotional support mule!”
I flipped him off with one hand while keeping Sera balanced with the other.
The air outside the arena was cooler. Fresher. I felt her breathing slow against my back, steady and soft.
Honestly?
Not a bad way to end the day.
Ridiculous?
Absolutely.
But also kinda… perfect.
