Chapter 35. Discount Diablo
Succubi Chapter 35. Discount Diablo
I couldn’t even look at Adrian—he had backed off to the wall, covering his mouth to hide the grin of someone watching a friend slowly drown in social affection.
“Oh gods, they’re multiplying,” I muttered, eyes wide as a second lamia slithered into the group, flanked by a pair of fox girls and at least one student who I think was from House of Titan judging by the arm muscles alone.
The questions kept coming, fast and overlapping. I couldn’t tell if I was being interrogated or interviewed or just plain overwhelmed.
“Um—hang on—uh—”
And then—
“Enough.”
Her voice was calm. Clear. Sharp enough to cut through the chatter like a mana blade through butter.
Evelyn.
She stepped into the group like a damn hero in slow motion, expression unreadable, her presence immediately shifting the atmosphere.
The crowd stilled. Like a magic spell had been cast.
Her eyes swept the gathered students, and they all took a subtle half-step back—automatically. No one even questioned it. It was instinctual.
Evelyn didn’t raise her voice. Didn’t look angry. She didn’t need to.
Her eyes swept over the crowd—calm, calculating… but there was something else too.A sharp glint. A flicker of emotion that cut deeper than any spell.
Jealousy.
Subtle, but unmistakable.
Her gaze said it louder than any words could… ‘He is mine.’
Not the clingy kind. Not the desperate kind. Just a quiet, dangerous sort of possessiveness.Like a silent promise carved into stone.
She walked straight up beside me, her presence making space like a magical wall had just manifested in the hallway. The chatter died instantly. Even the girls who hadn’t stopped talking since they got there suddenly remembered they had somewhere else to be.
Then she turned toward the group, eyes cool, tone even colder.“He just finished an intense training session,” she said flatly. “If you want to talk magic theory, do it during a break. Not like you’re trying to summon him.”
Oof.
The silence afterward?Awkward. Tangible. Like someone had cast a high-level Mute spell over the whole hallway.
And the girls? They backed off. Quickly. Some muttered apologies. A few actually bowed.
I blinked at her.Yeah… okay. That was way scarier than fireballs.
I watched them go with a dazed blink. “Okay. That was terrifying.”
Evelyn didn’t look at me. “You looked like you needed help.”
“I did,” I breathed, still recovering. “That was not the kind of crowd I’m used to.”
“You like attention,” she said, still watching the last of them fade down the corridor.
“I do. But not like I’m being chased by a fan club.”
Evelyn finally looked at me, eyes cool, but I swear there was the faintest twitch of amusement at the corner of her mouth.
“You’re not subtle. You realize that, right?”
I smirked. “Neither are you.”
“Mm,” she hummed, adjusting the strap of her bag. “You handled it well enough.”
“Only because you showed up like some divine executioner with resting goddess face.”
She blinked slowly at me, then turned to walk ahead. “Come on. Let’s go before the next wave finds you.”
I hurried after her, tossing a glance over my shoulder. Adrian gave me a thumbs-up.
“Still jealous,” he mouthed.
I rolled my eyes and caught up with Evelyn.
We’d just barely made it past the crowd of students before I muttered, “Actually—hold up. Nature’s calling.”
She stopped, glanced at me, then nodded. “I’ll go ahead. Don’t take too long. If I get swarmed next, I’m blaming you.”
“No promises,” I said with a grin, already backing away toward the nearest restroom.
The hallway was quiet now, most of the students off to the dorms or cafeteria. I slipped into the restroom and did my business.
Flushed. Zipped. No accidents.
I walked over to the sink and started washing my hands, the cool water rushing over my fingers and washing away the residual mana dust from the training ground. My reflection looked… better than expected. Still a little singed around the edges, but hey—alive.
Then it happened.
[PING!]
My system chimed again, but this time the sound was different.
Lower. Heavier.
[WARNING!][Another demon detected!][Underworld Space has been activated!]
My hands froze under the stream of water.
“…Okay. That’s new.”
The moment the alert appeared, everything around me shifted.
The faint buzz of plumbing, the echo of dripping water, even the distant murmur of footsteps outside the hallway—all of it cut off, like someone just hit a mute button on the world.
It was still the same restroom… technically.
But it wasn’t.
The lights flickered, now tinted faintly red, and I realized that the room’s edge—its very boundary—seemed to warp. The corners pulsed, and the shadows grew unnaturally long.
I straightened up slowly, drying my hands with a paper towel like it was the last bit of normalcy I could afford.
“Okay, okay,” I muttered. “Deep breath. Don’t panic.”
I turned, senses sharpening, mana pooling in my palm just in case I needed to summon a blade.
And there he was.
Standing by the wall, the demon leaned casually, striking a pose that could've landed him on the cover of some twisted underworld fashion magazine—or a horror movie poster. The way the dim, red-tinged lighting hit him just right, shadows lacing across the hard lines of his body, made him look impossibly cool. Composed. Dangerous.
He was tall. Broad-shouldered. His skin looked like cooled obsidian, etched with glowing orange-red cracks that pulsed like veins of magma. His claws were long, talon-like, black with streaks of crimson. One horn curled back along his skull, jagged and ominous like something ripped straight out of a nightmare. His eye—the one I could see—glowed with an eerie crimson light that didn’t just shine. It watched.
Half-Demon <Level 10>
He stood there, arms crossed, angled just enough that I only saw his left side. The scary side. The demon side.
He glanced at me once, slow and deliberate, his glowing eye flicking up and down as if assessing me—not just as a person, but as a threat. Or maybe a snack. Or both.My stomach twisted slightly.
I guess I found one of the demons who escaped to this realm… or maybe the one sent to hunt them.
‘A half-demon?’ I thought. ‘So, hell does inter-race marriage? Like... a demon and a human? A demon and... an elf?’
My brain didn’t get far before my body started reacting to the pressure in the room. It hit like a heavy fog wrapped in static. A strange weight pressing against my chest, thickening the air around me. Not painful—but unnatural. My instincts screamed danger, but not death. Not yet.
The half-demon didn’t move.
Didn’t speak.
He just leaned there, the ultimate silent boss-fight teaser.
Then… he shifted.
Just enough to turn fully toward me.
And I— I swear to the gods above and all the demons below— I nearly choked trying to hold back my laugh.
Because yeah… he was a half.
Literally.
One side of him? Straight-up demon royalty. Black obsidian skin. Magma-core aesthetic. Badass claws and battle scars and an aura that said “I could kill you with a blink and still look hot doing it.”
But the other side?
Was an absolute disaster.
Neon pink jogger pants. A single flip-flop on the wrong foot. And a hoodie. Not just any hoodie—no. This thing had a badly drawn cartoon duck holding a knife printed on the front.
His hair was shaved unevenly on that side, like a toddler had gone at it with safety scissors. His other horn? Missing. Just a smooth stump. A sticker was slapped over his cheek like someone had tried to patch up a wound with glitter.
He turned fully to face me, and I lost it. My jaw dropped in shock, and I cringed so hard.
This was not an escaped prince of darkness. This was… this was a walking fashion tragedy with a lava-core arm and a Hot Topic x Clown School discount on the other.
I desperately tried to hold it in. My chest trembled. My lips quivered. I clapped a hand over my mouth so fast it made a slapping sound. Because this—this was a life and death situation, goddammit. But this was also too damn funny.
He looked like a demonic gladiator got fused with a circus performer mid-teleport. He tilted his head slightly—like he knew exactly what I was thinking and just didn’t care. Pure “Yeah, I wear this and still murder people” energy.
I nodded slowly, still recovering from the internal laughter hurricane. “You’re… very asymmetrical.”
He didn’t flinch. Just took another slow, deliberate step forward.
-Clink. Flap. Clink. Flap.
The world’s least threatening dramatic entrance.
“Did the king send you?” I asked, face finally turning serious.
Then he finally spoke, his voice deep and hollow with a low, growling undertone.
“Yes.” His eyes burned brighter.
“The king sent me.” He pointed at me. “And you… You are going to die. Everyone who defies the king must die,” he said in a menacing tone.
The temperature dropped. Not physically, but emotionally.
But me?
I smirked. I couldn't help it. My shadow energy curled faintly along my fingertips.
“Well,” I said, slowly stepping to the side, loosening my shoulders like I was warming up for a spar, “the king sure has bad taste in assassins.”
The demon’s face twitched.
“Flip-flops? Seriously?” I added, flicking my eyes down.
He growled.
And I grinned wider.
“Let’s dance, Discount Diablo.”
