Chapter 21. Walking Aphrodisiac

Succubi Chapter 21. Walking Aphrodisiac

Leon smirked. “Oh, she’s impressed.”

Evelyn shot him a look, sharp and unimpressed. “I didn’t say that.”

Leon just chuckled, clearly enjoying himself.

I sighed, rubbing my temple. “Why is this such a big deal?”

Leon threw his hands up like I had just told him the sky was green. “Because! I thought you were just, y’know, the survive on instinct type.”

I scoffed, adjusting the strap of my bag. “I do survive on instinct. Learning is a basic type of instinct.”

Leon narrowed his eyes. “Yeah, but also apparently on advanced combat theory and historical battle analysis?” He shook his head like he was trying to process some reality-breaking information. “Man, what the hell.”

I huffed, slinging my bag over my shoulder. “Look, are we done questioning my apparent intelligence? Because—”

But before I could finish, the bell rang, signaling the start of break.

And that was when Leon instantly switched priorities.

He immediately stuffed his books into his bag and bolted toward the exit like a starving beast on the hunt.

No hesitation. No waiting. No looking back.

Just pure, unfiltered desperation.

Evelyn and I stood there, watching him disappear through the door. She raised an eyebrow, arms crossed as she held back what looked like actual second-hand embarrassment.

“…Is he always like that?” she asked, glancing at me with mild disbelief.

I shrugged, shoving my own books into my bag at a normal, sane pace. “Yeah. If he’s hungry, he can’t think straight. That’s just how he is.”

Evelyn exhaled through her nose. “He’s really different from the others.”

I chuckled, shaking my head. “Yeah, I gotta admit, he’s a little different. He doesn’t have many friends because of that.” I closed my bag and slung it over my shoulder. “I think I’m his longest friend.”

Evelyn said nothing, just gave me a quiet look before nodding.

I stretched, letting my bones pop before finally taking a second to glance around the classroom. Most of the other students were already filing out, some chatting, some making their way toward the cafeteria like normal people who weren’t about to eat their own arm out of hunger.

And that’s when I noticed him.

Ares.

He was sitting in the front row, a few seats away from me, looking directly at me with a laser-focused stare full of displeasure.

The type of look that screamed ‘I have a problem with you existing.’

I smirked, tilting my head slightly as if to silently say, ‘What? You got a crush on me or something?’

Ares' expression darkened immediately, and—just as I expected—he huffed and looked away, standing up to leave with the others.

‘What an asshole,’ I thought, suppressing a laugh.

Evelyn followed my gaze but said nothing, though I swore I caught the faintest twitch at the corner of her mouth—like she knew what I was doing and found it mildly amusing.

I shook it off, adjusting my bag strap, and casually glanced in the other direction. That’s when I saw them.

Three girls.

Two elves and one human.

They were standing near the entrance, whispering among themselves while occasionally sneaking glances at me.

I blinked.

It wasn’t the usual side-eye judgmental glances I got from some students. No, this was… different.

The kind of glances a group of girls would give when talking about someone they liked.

‘Wait—are they talking about me?’

One of the elves caught my gaze and immediately blushed, quickly looking away. The human girl bit her lip, her expression flustered, and the other elf nudged her, whispering something excitedly.

I frowned. ‘What the hell? Must be because of my intelligence or something.’

It was the only logical explanation. After all, I did just casually drop a damn combat lecture in the middle of class while looking like I hadn’t paid attention at all. Not everyone could do that. Maybe they found that impressive?

I exhaled, deciding to ignore it, and turned to look the other way.

And immediately spotted another group of girls.

This time, a lamia and a human girl.

They were sitting by the window, giggling while sneaking glances at me, whispering to each other like this was some damn high school romance drama.

My stomach dropped.

‘Okay… This is weird…’

I turned my head again—more girls.

‘What the actual hell is happening?’

I wasn’t an idiot. I knew I wasn’t ugly. Hell, I’d even say I was objectively handsome. I had enough experience with girls crushing on me back in high school. But this many?

No way.

This was different.

This was suspiciously unnatural.

I swallowed. My fingers twitched as I subtly ran a hand through my hair, then over the back of my neck, checking for any demonic features that might’ve accidentally shown up.

Nothing.

No horns. No tail. No glowing eyes.

I was still in my normal human form.

So why were all these girls looking at me like I was some kind of walking fantasy romance protagonist?

I turned to Evelyn, keeping my voice low. “Okay. Either I hit some weird-ass hidden milestone, or something is seriously off.”

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about?”

I tilted my head toward the nearest group of whispering girls.

She followed my gaze, scanned the room, and after a second, I saw her realize.

A pause.

Then, she smirked.

“Oh,” she muttered. “Ohhh.”

I groaned. “Don’t ‘ohhh’ me. What is this?”

Evelyn crossed her arms, a look of amusement flickering in her eyes. “You really don’t know?”

I clenched my jaw. “If I knew, I wouldn’t be asking.”

She hummed, tapping a finger against her chin. “It’s your presence.”

I blinked. “My… presence?”

“Yes.” Her gaze flickered toward the group of girls again before returning to me. “You probably don’t notice it, but ever since your power started awakening, your presence—your charisma—has been growing.”

I frowned. “Charisma?”

Evelyn nodded as she walked beside me. “You are a royal demon,” she stated, her voice carrying a weight that made my stomach sink. “You have more charisma than you think.”

I frowned, glancing at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

She sighed, adjusting the strap of her bag as we stepped out of the classroom and into the hallway. Students were already filling the corridors, heading toward the cafeteria or wherever they planned to waste their break. I could still feel some of those lingering stares on me, but I ignored them, focusing on Evelyn instead.

“All demons have it,” she continued. “That pull. That natural magnetism. We were made to be the seduction of darkness and shadow. The unknown. The temptation.” Her gaze flickered toward me. “But royal demons like you? You have something more.”

I exhaled, running a hand through my hair. “Right. Cool. So basically, I’m some kind of walking aphrodisiac?”

Evelyn actually snorted, but then her expression turned serious again. “Not just that. It’s not purely physical attraction. It’s a mix of dominance, intrigue, and raw presence. And you—” She shook her head slightly. “You just put yourself in the spotlight by helping Leon answer that question.”

I huffed. “So what, I did one class presentation and now I’m the academy’s new heartthrob?”

She arched an eyebrow. “You make it sound ridiculous, but look around.”

I didn’t have to. I could feel it. The occasional hushed whispers. The girls who stole glances and quickly looked away when I met their eyes. Even some of the guys had started paying attention, though their expressions were either annoyed or confused.

This was not normal.

I exhaled sharply and glanced at Evelyn, trying to shake off the weird tension. “What about you?” I asked, keeping my voice casual. “Do you also have a crush on me now?”

It was purely a joke.

A harmless, teasing comment.

I fully expected her to roll her eyes and say something like ‘Don’t be ridiculous’ or ‘You wish’. Maybe even hit me with a ‘Don’t flatter yourself’.

But she didn’t.

Instead, she quickly looked away, pretending to check on her bag like her life depended on it.

For a split second, I caught it— A faint, almost unnoticeable blush dusting her pale cheeks.

My brain short-circuited. I blinked, my entire body tensing as my heart did some weird, stupid thing in my chest.

Wait.

Wait, wait, wait.

Did she—

No.

No way.

I stared at her, waiting for her to deny it, to scoff, to say anything that would make this less weird.

But she stayed completely silent.

Which was worse.

Because now I had zero clue what was going on in her head.

The hall around us felt louder, the sounds of students talking and laughing blending into a distant hum as I tried to process what the hell just happened.

Evelyn? Blushing? Over me?

That had to be a mistake. I thought she was a cold girl type. Okay, correction, a cold succubus type who only considered a man as her food.

I swallowed, forcing myself to look away, my fingers tightening around the strap of my bag as we walked.

Neither of us spoke.

And I had never felt more awkward in my damn life.

I needed a distraction. Immediately.

Leon, thankfully, was my perfect excuse.

Once we stepped into the cafeteria, the smell of hot food and spices instantly hit me. The place was packed—students from all different houses gathered at tables, eating and chatting while trays clattered and boots shuffled against the polished stone floor.

And right there, near the center of the room, was Leon.

Absolutely stuffing his face like a wild animal.

I swear, the guy had at least three trays of food, piled high with steaming meats, roasted vegetables, and whatever else he could get his hands on. He was hunched over like he was protecting his meal from potential thieves, shoveling food into his mouth at a terrifying speed. Well, Leon was a werewolf so yes, his appetite was something. But even among the werewolf race, he was something already.

I stared.

Evelyn stared.

Leon barely paused to look up at us before swallowing an entire mouthful of something fried. “Oh, you guys took your time,” he said, his words slightly muffled. “I already got my food. Twice.”

I let out a slow breath, finally dragging myself back to reality. “Leon,” I said.

“Yeah?”

I sat down across from him. “That’s disgusting.”

Leon grinned, shoving another bite into his mouth. “You’re just mad because I beat you here.”

Evelyn sat next to me, wrinkling her nose as she eyed his plate. “How are you not choking?”

Leon shrugged. “Skill.”

I shook my head. As much as I wanted to ignore what had just happened between me and Evelyn, my mind kept looping back to it. Every time I snuck a glance at her, she was completely focused on her food, acting like nothing happened.

Maybe I imagined it.

Maybe she was just hot from walking.

That was definitely it.
