Chapter 136. Buns and “Buns”
Succubi Chapter 136. Buns and "Buns"
Before he could spiral deeper into his horniness-induced existential crisis, a voice floated out, sharp but honey-smooth.
“Professor,” Lilith said, her tone so sweet it could slice through steel, “I think you should go back now.”
Callahan blinked, slowly lifting his eyes to hers. That hollow anime hero expression was already forming. You know the one. Blank, stunned, jaw slightly slack. As if he just watched his childhood dream get kicked in the nuts by reality.
“This place,” Lilith continued, stepping closer with her soft dress dragging slightly behind her like a seductive cloud, “is for females only. Well… except Evan.” She gave me a soft look.
I smiled proudly. I didn’t know what I did to earn that status, but I was keeping it.
“You should go,” she added, her smile still polite but very much final. “Before people start saying… nasty things about you.”
Callahan didn’t flinch.
Didn’t argue.
Didn’t explode with magic or shout about injustice or complain about sexual favoritism.
He just… paused.
The man just stood there for a beat too long.
Expression unreadable.
No anger. No sarcasm. No theatrical groan.
Just this weird hollow, empty stare. Like he was reliving a memory of his village burning and his dog dying in the same scene. His lips parted slowly.
“…Fine,” he said, like his soul was leaking out. “Good night… Boo— I mean, Lilith.”
His voice cracked like a crumbling ruin.
Then he turned.
And walked away.
Slow.
Heavy.
Like a war veteran limping home after a final battle with zero loot and one trauma.
I stared at his back.
Cringed.
Hard.
Seriously, why was he walking like he just lost a lover and a war at the same time?
The man had drama built into his spine.
But, and I hate myself for admitting this, he did look kinda cool when he blocked the Hexblade attack for Adrian.
Yeah, he was cool.
With very specific terms and conditions.
Namely, mute and at least thirty feet away.
Lilith tilted her head and waved gently, like she was sending off an emotional support teacher who had served his purpose.
I let out a sigh, stepped forward, and picked up the precious brown paper bag from the bench again.
The buns inside were still warm.
I reached in, took one, then held it out to Lilith.
“Here,” I said. “For you.”
She blinked.
Her fingers brushed mine as she took it, her brows lifting delicately. “You seriously brought this for me? I was just kidding.”
I nodded, suddenly a little sheepish. “Yeah… I mean. I just won my first tournament. It wasn’t anything big, just the rookies bracket, but…” I scratched the back of my neck. “I wanted to give something to everyone. You know. My way of saying thanks.”
Lilith looked down at the bun like I’d just handed her a crown or a baby or something absurdly meaningful.
I shrugged. “I know this isn’t much. We have like… literal buffets back at the estate. But this is something I bought with my own prize money. It’s not enchanted or imported or coated in mana sprinkles or whatever, but it’s mine. I mean, I was going to buy better shoes. Mana-boosted ones. For dodging fireballs and public panic. But…”
I looked down.
“…buns first.”
She smiled. The kind of smile that makes your chest do that weird fluttery thing even though I’m not supposed to feel anything because I’m technically a pride demon with emotional resistance.
“Thank you, Evan,” she said, voice warm.
Then she hugged me again.
And not just a side hug.
Oh no.
I got planted.
Full frontal.
My face, once again, smushed into the Twin Peaks of Heaven.
Her arms wrapped around my back, warm and soft and… okay, kind of motherly but also kind of illegal.
She patted my head.
Brushed her fingers through my hair.
A slow, affectionate drag that made my scalp tingle.
My arms stayed frozen at my sides. Partially from pride instinct, partially because moving would break the spell, though there was no spell at all.
This.
This was the best reward ever.
I couldn’t breathe. Not from pressure. From euphoria.
The scent of her? Like midnight roses and very faint cinnamon. Soft, inviting. Her skin radiated warmth like enchanted bathwater. Every inhale made my brain forget what sadness was.
I was still frozen in heaven when she pulled back just a little, one hand still brushing my hair.
“You’re a sweet boy,” she said, smiling. “I don’t get to say that often.”
I blinked up at her. “You hugged my face.”
She winked. “Sweet and lucky.”
I coughed into my sleeve, trying not to combust.
Behind us, I swear I heard a faint muffled scream. I turned. No one was there. But somehow, somewhere in the distance, I felt Callahan’s soul shatter just a little more.
Lilith took a small bite of the bun, her expression turning thoughtful. “This is nice,” she said softly. “Simple. Warm. Comfort food.”
“Just like me,” I said before I could stop myself.
She raised a brow.
I turned red. “That sounded cooler in my head.”
“No, no,” she said, laughing lightly. “I quite like that.”
She stepped back then, bun in hand. “Well. It’s past midnight. I should head back to the estate.”
I nodded, still buzzing from that hug.
Lilith smiled and looped her arm through mine like we were just two perfectly normal people and not a goddess-tier succubus and a royal-demon trying to avoid getting outed at a magic academy.
“Let’s head back,” she said, nudging me gently.
So we did. Walked side by side through the dorm courtyard, past the glimmering garden lamps, under the lazy swaying branches of the moonlit trees. The gravel crunched softly under our steps.
It felt weirdly domestic.
Too peaceful for someone who nearly got mana slapped into a magical coma by a jealous professor fifteen minutes ago.
When we reached the dorm entrance, she gave me one last squeeze on the arm and whispered, “Sweet dreams, Evan.”
I blinked. “You too.”
Then she vanished inside her room with her bun, and I was left alone in the hallway with a warm paper bag and the sudden realization that I had responsibilities now.
Bun responsibilities.
I quietly made my way to the common kitchen area, opened the bag like it was a treasure chest, and set them on the counter one by one. I dug into my pocket and pulled out the little sticky notes I’d scrawled on earlier when I was waiting for my match.
I wrote the girl's names on it and arranged the buns neatly. Used one of the napkins to add little heart doodles by their names. I even added a small sticky note for Lilith’s, even though she already had hers. Just a simple: Thanks for everything. Also sorry about Callahan.
Then I took the last three.
My portion.
And went to my room.
The hallway was quiet. My footsteps echoed slightly as I passed the doors.
I opened my door slowly, slipped in, then clicked it shut behind me.
The click sounded louder than expected.
The moment it closed, everything was still again.
I walked to the desk, set them down gently.
Then stared.
Just stared for a second.
The adrenaline was finally fading. My heartbeat slowing. My brain catching up with everything that had just happened.
I should have been thinking about tomorrow’s training.
About how to dodge Callahan’s next interrogation.
About hiding my core scan and falsifying my background files in case the school got nosy.
But instead?
I sighed.
“…She got the best one,” I muttered.
It wasn’t even a metaphor. Lilith literally got the best bun. The one with the extra filling. The golden crust. The one I had mentally designated as “VIP” the moment I picked them out. While she also had the best buns herself. The buns she used to hugging me.
Somewhere out there, I knew Professor Callahan was probably curled up in bed, hugging his pillow like it owed him comfort, whispering her name in a sad defeated tone.
Probably muttering “boobs…” like it was his final word before sleep.
And me?
I got boobs.
A head pat.
A hair stroke.
An extra long hug.
I even got to see him malfunction in real time.
Life was good.
Mostly.
