Chapter 79: Backend Deals
Flora taught Simon for about an hour before he looked like he needed to go to bed and so left him to digest what she had taught him.
However, it was her that needed to digest the onslaught of things to ensure her future Tamer's well-being.
It revolted her to think that she had already considered a Tamer to be an object that belonged to her. But another part, the powerful and evil part, was very okay and reveled in that fact.
And she could use that to plan and scheme. She could...
"Hello!"
"Hmmm?!?"
Flora started looking around rapidly searching for the source of the voice but finding none. Her senses had picked up a hidden figure but that was no longer close by.
She picked up nothing that could be speaking to her right now, even the psychics were not above her magical senses. But she calmed down rather quickly, especially given that she was in the most places on the entire continent. She asked evenly.
"Who is there?"
"Who I am is not really important. What I can do for you is."
The voice was very ditzy which was at very odds with her words which sounded very ominous.
This was either a powerful monster girl or a noblewoman but Flora did not have enough information to decide which but she was powerful enough to avoid her senses.
Since the voice gave her no further information she was the one who asked.
"And what can you do for me?"
Flora did not how but somehow she could feel a sinister smile from the voice as the next words were said.
"What would you say if I could create a miracle bond with the Tamer you are currently eyeing?"
Flora scoffed.
"I would say you are insane."
*Giggle*
There was that ditzy giggle again, but it still felt evil very very evil.
"Maybe."
The voice stretched out that in the exaggeratedly cute way, imps liked to do but this was no fucking imp. She could crush an imp with a flick of her wrist.
The voice continued and her next words made Flora stop and think.
"But I can guarantee its potency. It's worked twice you know."
Flora could not understand what was going on, so she just asked.
"Twice?"
"Yep! The mutt and kitty are both my handiwork!"
There was excitement and pride in the voice now as those words were uttered. Flora only blinked as her mind was still unable to process the information. She again uttered, "What?..."
At this, she could hear a long and loud raspberry before the voice finally spared her failing thoughts.
"For an ancient and powerful tree, you are quite dumb! Anyway, I figured out a way to trigger the miracle bond on command and I am willing to maybe give you that special privilege!"
Flora wanted to laugh out loud at this bout of absurdity, something like that was impossible, but she kept her composure. She instead wanted to see what this mad woman/monster girl wanted.
"And the price?"
"Don't tell little Simon about the Divine Seal or me."
Flora blinked at the stupidly simple demands that had stupid amounts of workarounds.
"...That's it?"
She felt another spine-tingling at the reply she got.
"That's it! So wanna make a deal? I will even throw in the caveat that if it does not work the deal is void and you can do whatever you want!"
This deal was good, a little too good. Which meant there was probably something she was missing. Off the top of her head, the fact that this entity knew about Simon and did absolutely nothing spoke volumes of her power or hubris.
But... The chance of her being bonded naturally would be long and arduous with a healthy dosing of luck. She might act like it was a done deal and even planned as though it was but it was anything but. Something like this, if it had the tiniest chance to be true was impossible to pass up.
She hated herself for doing this but it was just too enticing. So she thought of a middle ground.
"I have a question."
"I promise that I am not doing this with the intent of seeing your precious Tamer fall. If anything, I am sowing the seeds so he becomes a part of the next generation of [Great Hero]."
Flora gulped, this entity was very dangerous. Or she was being very transparent. But she had her answer and decided to go for it.
"I... will agree..."
"Excellent! I will even put a timer on it! Till the end of his school term! Buh-bye!"
Flora felt a weight settle on her shoulders, it was like a shackle tying her down. She sighed at the implication, but on the other hand, it gave more credence to her outlandish claim. She started mumbling to herself as she walked to her quarters, half her mind on the wonder of what might happen tomorrow.
"Of course, it was a magic contract. What else could I have expected? She wants to create a [Great Hero] huh... Wait... Does that mean there is going to be another Calamity?!?!"
