Chapter 12: Family and News (Part-1)

…someone special to me.

[Someone special? Seriously? Well, that was really anticlimactic. I thought she would be your relative or something. But then, there’s no problem here, right? Why are you so stubbornly refusing to bang her?]

I told you… she is special.

[Man, something is seriously wrong with your head. Normally, you bang your special person. So, help me understand, why is she even special to you if you guys are not related and you’re not even after her pussy?]

That is because—

“Jacob…” Layla speaks to me at the very moment. She is still staring at me, her beautiful eyes full of concern.

“You must be hungry, right? You were out all night… Wait in the living room for a bit. I will get you something to eat,” she says before turning back and rushing to the kitchen.

[Heck! Are you even freaking seeing that ass? And those sexy thighs? And you still don’t want to fuck her? No matter what you say now, you have fallen… fallen badly in front of my eyes.]

What eyes are you even talking about!? You are a fucking system! You don’t have eyes!

[…]

And it’s not like I am not interested in her or anything. In fact, she is the girl I am most interested in.

[See, buddy. Now you are really confusing me. So you are interested in her, but still don’t want to fuck? What are you? Some kind of pathetic romantic movie hero?]

It’s not like that. I want to sleep with her but…

[Yes! That’s more like it! I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me.]

Will you just listen to me!? It’s true that I like her. Fuck! She is even my first crush. There is no way I wouldn’t wanna have sex with her,  but it’s not that simple. you know?

[Believe me. It is.]

No, it’s not. Actually, I am greatly indebt to her.

[Ahh~ this money. This filthy, filthy money. It makes the best of us fall. But I still don’t see your point of you not fucking her?]

It’s not about money, you idiot. It’s just that… I am an orphan and was homeless before Layla found me. She gave me a place in her house, and has taken care of me for the past 5 years.

[Past 5 years? When you were 13? Hmm… that is a bit strange. Don’t get me wrong, it is an extremely nice and generous gesture, but why would she want to do that? Even if she wanted to adopt a child, weren’t you a bit too old for that? And by the way, how old is this Layla?]

First of all, she didn’t adopt me. She just brought me to live with her. And she is just 23.

[Okay?  But still, she took you in when she was like…18? An 18-year-old taking care of a 12-year-old in her house?… Ah, never mind… I see…]

Yeah, she took me in after her system ceremony. If my guess is true (and it likely is), it had something to do with her system.

And yeah, about having sex with her, I won’t do it without knowing if she likes me back or not. And I am definitely not using the system for it.

[Come on, man! This is bullshit! You will die if you start doing things like that. I know it’s not a good thing to be forceful, but what are you going to do if all the women refuse to have sex with you, huh? Because let me tell you this, you are not hot enough for the chicks to throw themselves at you. And about the prostitute thing you were saying? It’s a good plan but do you have enough money to hire them multiple times every day?]

I think Rebecca would let me do it…

[Don’t misunderstand, you only got so many points with her because she was a virgin. Remember that Anna? The points she gave you are almost negligible.]

I get it… but still, I won’t do it. Layla took me out of the streets, and she has taken great care of me since then. I am not going to force myself on her even if I have to die.

[…]

Don’t worry, I am going to make her mine one day. But now, it is not the time. I will win her heart first.

[You really think you have all the time in the world, don’t know?]

No, but for that I won’t compromise.

[I see. And what if, after she does become yours, she asks you not to have sex with others?]

I know Layla better than you. She will understand.

[Well, fine. You win. But I seriously doubt if you aren’t already too late. She is 23, you know? It’s pretty common for a woman her age (especially when she’s this beautiful) to have a boyfriend.]

Don’t jinx it! I know she doesn’t. She is still single.

[I guess lucky you, then. An honest advice though— act fast. Women like her don’t lack of pursuers. You will lose your chance with her if you wait too long.]

Obviously, I am working on it.

[I guess I will trust you on that. Just remember to keep fucking other girls or you will die before you get your hands on Layla.]

I know, I know.

[I will be going then. See you later when it’s time to get some action.]

With this, the words stop appearing before my eyes.

“Sigh… what is going on with this system? It is not like any others I have read about before…” I mutter while shaking my head.

*Grrr*

Suddenly, I catch the smell of something delicious from the kitchen and my stomach rumbles in protest.

Man, I need to eat something…

I haven’t eaten since yesterday evening, and my energy is thoroughly depleted from all the sexual stuff I’ve been doing.

Moving to the living room, I relax on the sofa while waiting for Layla. Our living room is small, but quite beautiful. And all the credit for it goes to Layla. She’s put her heart into decorating it with aesthetic showpieces, a few of her own handmade paintings, and colorful flowers in pretty vases.

To pass some time, I pick up the remote lying on the table, and turn on the television. Let’s see if there are any more updates on the WST situation.

As I put the news channel on, the same reporter from the morning appears on the screen. Unlike before, when he was all excited talking about the incident and even had a heated discussion, he now looks a bit agitated.

[…it is very frightening, indeed. None of us had expected that even the Elves couldn’t get past the pink lightning around the WST…]

“What!?” I speak out unconsciously.

[Although there is no official statement yet, according to the information we got from our trustable and highly confidential sources, the top magicians sent to Ieproalia from all the system-dependent countries failed to even step inside the barrier of lightning around the WST.

[Obviously, with the magicians sent by our country being the weakest out of all, they haven’t had any success either. A few experts are speculating that something much bigger than we had originally anticipated is going on at the WST.

[On this incident, there is still no official comment from the system independent—]

Suddenly, the reporter stops speaking and presses his earpiece tightly.

[What!?]

The reports shouts, looking stunned.

[A-Are you sure?]

His voice gets shaky.

[O-Okay, I get it.]

He removes his hand from the earpiece and looks at the camera solemnly. You can tell that he’s troubled by what he just heard.

[A-An official statement has just come from the prime minister…]

The reporter speaks in a fearful and grave tone.

[… an emergency USDCA conference has been called by the Elves.]

“No way in hell!”
