Chapter 10 – Real Progress?

She jumps in her seat like I've just materialized out of thin air. Her head whips toward me, eyes going wide, and I mean wide, like flying saucers. She bears a striking resemblance to a hamster that's just been caught stealing snacks, and she makes this small squeaking sound that's honestly kind of adorable.

"Oh! Um! H-hi…" she stammers, immediately bowing her head in this almost reflexive gesture.

Wow. She's just as nervous as me. Maybe more.

The realization is like a weight lifting off my shoulders. I'm not alone in my awkwardness. We're both disasters. This might… this might actually be doable?

Feeling emboldened by her obvious nervousness, because at least I'm not the most anxious person in this interaction, I stick out my hand.

"I'm Adam," I say, managing to sound almost confident.

She stares at my hand like it's a live grenade. Her eyes get even wider, which I didn't think was physically possible. She begins shaking slightly.

"Uh… I'm... Luna..." she whispers, reaching out with a trembling hand to take mine.

Her handshake is the weakest thing I've ever experienced. It's less of a shake and more of a brief, terrified touching of palms. Her hand is small and cold and gone almost immediately as she yanks it back like I might bite it.

YES!!!!!!!

I'm internally screaming. I did it. I introduced myself. I initiated human contact. I'm basically a social butterfly now, so someone get me a talk show.

That's when I feel it, this weird, almost imperceptible sensation. Like a notification popping up in my peripheral vision, except it's inside my head. The system.

I mentally poke at it, giving it permission to manifest.

A text box appears in my vision:

Ding! Your Charm has increased by 1.

Another popup immediately follows:

"Congratulations! You did great Adam! ???"

"What??" I almost shout out loud, barely managing to keep it internal. My eyes go so wide I'm genuinely worried they might just pop out of their sockets and roll across the floor. "I can do that??????"

Luna glances at me nervously, probably wondering why I'm making weird faces.

Well... I guess obviously? I think, trying to process this revelation. I mean, if I keep working out, I'd obviously get stronger naturally, without the system's help. The system is just... measuring what's already there. Displaying my natural stats in numerical format.

Holy crap. This changes everything. I don't need evolution points to improve. I can just... improve. By doing things. Like a normal person. Except with a video game interface tracking my progress.

This is the coolest thing ever.

I want to say more to Luna. I want to have an actual conversation. But I can feel my social battery rapidly approaching zero, and based on the way she's hunched even further into her hoodie, hers is probably in the negative already.

We spend the rest of the class in what I hope is a comfortable silence, I can't really tell, working on our respective projects. I sneak a few glances at her screen. She's building something complex, probably working on her own side projects. She catches me looking and gives me a tiny, nervous smile before hiding behind her hair again.

When class ends and we're packing up, I force myself to speak one more time.

"Bye, Luna."

She looks up, startled, then gives me another one of those tiny smiles. "B-bye, Adam."

I float through the rest of the day on a cloud of accomplishment. I participated in three classes, and I introduced myself to someone. I had an actual interaction with another human being that didn't end in complete disaster.

I am, as the kids say, crushing it.

I continue forcing myself to speak up for the rest of my classes, until…

Ding!

You've completed the quest: Be an Active Participant in Class

Rewards:

I might just be god's gift to humanity.

When I get home, I immediately begin my workout.

It sucks. Again. My body is still angry about yesterday, and now I'm asking it to do this again? The audacity. The betrayal.

But I push through. Squats. Push-ups. Planks. Jumping jacks. All the exercises that make me question my life choices.

And then, right as I'm finishing up, collapsed on my bedroom floor and seriously considering just living here now, it happens.

Ding!

Your Strength has increased by 1.

Ding!

Your Dexterity has increased by 1.

Ding!

Your Endurance has increased by 1.

Ding!

Your Willpower has increased by 1.

Ding!

Quest log updated.

"NO WAY!" I actually shout this time, not caring who hears me.

I forcefully calm myself down. Wait… Quest log updated? Haven’t seen that before. I scramble to pull up my quest screen, my hands shaking with excitement.

Available Quests:

I freeze.

Wait.

I blink hard, wondering if I'm hallucinating from post-workout endorphins.

Is that... is that a one followed by two zeroes?

I count them again. One. Zero. Zero.

That's a HUNDRED. A hundred evolution points.

My brain short-circuits for a moment as I do the math. In the system shop, I can buy an inch of dick length for 10 Evolution Points. Ten points per inch.

So if I get a hundred points...

That's ten inches I could add.

I currently have five inches erect.

Five plus ten is...

Fifteen.

Fifteen inches.

I stare at the quest reward, mouth hanging open like a broken drawbridge.

So, you're telling me… Get every physical stat up to 10 and I could have a 15 inch penis??? 15… INCHES???

I might need a building permit with that type of equipment. I would legitimately make every NTR protagonist weep with jealousy. Airport security would flag me as carrying a concealed weapon. I'd have to register it with the local authorities.

Holy. Shit.

I mean, obviously I'd need to be smart about it. Maybe not the full fifteen inches, that seems like it might actually cause problems. Like, serious logistical problems. But the fact that the option is there…

Wait.

The thought hits me like a truck.

I could also get ten inches of height.

I could be... tall?

The word feels foreign in my mouth, wrong somehow. Like trying on someone else's clothes. I would go from Adam Gray, the short, overweight, ugly nerd, to Adam Gray, the TALL, overweight, ugly nerd.

That seems fundamentally wrong somehow. Me being short has been a universal constant, like the sky being blue or Mondays sucking. And now I can suddenly just... choose to be tall? Just like that?

It feels jarring. It's like if gravity just suddenly decided we should float up instead of fall down. Some things are supposed to be fixed, unchangeable. My height was one of those things.

Except now it's not.

I'm getting ahead of myself. Focus, Adam. Focus.

Still reeling from shock, I slowly will my system to show my status screen.

Adam Gray

Age: 18 | Height: 5'2"Dick Size: 3.5 inches (flaccid), 5 inches (erect)

Current Occupation: Student

Evolution Points: 5

Attributes

Active Skills

Passive Skills

Perks

I stare at the screen, my heart pounding.

Overall, my stats have increased by five in a single day. Five.

This system isn't just tracking my progress. It's gamifying my entire life. Every workout, every social interaction, every small step outside my comfort zone: it all counts. It all matters.

I lie back on my carpet, staring at my familiar ceiling, and let out a laugh. It's a bit manic, maybe a little unhinged, but I don't care.

For the first time in... maybe ever, I feel like I'm actually moving forward. Like I'm not just treading water, waiting for life to happen to me. I'm actively improving. Leveling up.

And yeah, my legs feel like jelly and my arms might fall off, and I'm going to be even more sore tomorrow.

But you know what?

It’s totally worth it.
