Chapter 108 Sophie
Third Person Point of View
Sophia was born to two fairly rich parents. Her father was a mid-ranked adventurer, and her mother ran a business odds and ends store. They treated her kindly, but both noticed something even in the early years of her life. Sophie was dumb… To be fair, most people were dumb; they could have been told earlier that their daughter was below the curve in intelligence.
That was fine, she didn’t need to be the smartest, she took after her father after all, who was a berserker, it just made her… More susceptible as a woman than him. As a dumb man, you might get scammed, even as a child, she was getting tricked into doing things she really shouldn’t. The boys would dare her to climb the tree nearby, and she didn’t find out they were only doing it so they could look at her underwear until she told her mom about how good she was at climbing trees.
A few years later, she became far more of a tomboy and got tricked like the other dumb boys would, mostly out of her food or valuables as they made bets she had no chance of winning. That was probably when she got a taste for gambling. The biggest problem was that they let her win some of the time because they felt bad for her. If she lost every single time, she might have quit, or realized they rigged the game, but since they didn’t, she kept going, wanting that feeling of winning more than anything else.
Gambling excited her, and most of the bad decisions she made were because of gambling. She either gambled and needed money to pay back the people who lent her some, or she gambled something she really never should have, for someone her age. At least she wasn’t stupid enough to know that giving herself away would be a huge mistake; she would regret the rest of her life.
Still, everything up to that was given away from losing a bet. Her first kiss, the first caress of her breast, both over and under her clothes. Still a year or so away from unlocking her class, still not considered a woman, her constant protection of her purity was the main reason she received the class she did, instead of berserker like her father or gambler.
The leader of the group she thought was her friend, figured it out after she finally came of age. Instead of having her gamble her body away, he had her drink. It was another thing she found out she loved to do, even before she was considered of age. She had an addictive personality, and the only reason she didn’t drink or do drugs was that she left the village before her ‘friends’ got her hooked on them.
She left because after she got drunk, he took advantage of her. He knew she didn’t see him romantically; she was one of the prettiest girls his age in the entire village, even though she was a tomboy, but she only saw him as a friend… Until he took it too far. Then she had to leave the village after almost killing him after he tricked her that night.
Things repeated in a similar fashion from then on. She’d move to a new city, find a group or go solo for a while, then, after she built up some money, she’d lose it all before building up a debt and needing to flee the city. She was on the outskirts of the country because most cities had people she owed money to.
Ever since her first time, she treated sex like a casual thing; it was somewhat enjoyable, and she enjoyed the effort people would put in to woo her… All the way up until she was almost assaulted again by her party, a party that knew she was a gambler before she joined, and were fine with her taking most of their funds to fund her passion, they just saw it as payment due when they outgrew the area.
It was a gross way for a person to think, but that’s how some people were; everything needed to be reciprocated, and even holding the door open for a woman, in their minds, meant that you owed them something. She was the weakest party member, so they would have succeeded if the farmboy hadn’t shown up with his wives to take care of them.
Normally, she’d leave after a close call like that, move to another city or village, and start over, but she didn’t this time. She was tired, sick of doing the same thing over and over again… And she was running out of places where people didn’t know her, and she didn’t owe anyone money. The only reason she wasn’t deeply in debt is that the gambler of the town was a poor man who didn’t take credit.
She was in really bad shape, barely able to stay on her feet from hunger, her gear all close to falling apart, when she was offered a gamble she had to accept. Then it happened. She lost… She lost badly; normally, it was clear if they cheated or not, especially when the person won every single game that mattered. But there was no sign, all of them seemed to be in on a joke, and only after I shouted in rage did I understand. There was almost no chance I was going to win against him with luck as high as his.
She sold her body ‘literally’ to them. She was now an indentured servant, and had to work as their tank until she paid back the money she bet… Which would take her decades to do… This would be a problem, almost all slaves pushed through dungeons were there to be meat shields or warm bodies to feed to traps, but that wasn’t what happened. No, they upgraded her equipment, fed her the same meals they ate, and treated her as if they didn’t own her… And that was where Sarah’s trap lay.
Sarah knew that Sophie wouldn’t know how to act when everyone cared for her. The few times she went off in an attempt to gamble, she felt the stinging shock of the contract go to work, making her normal vice impossible. They drank from time to time… But losing the biggest habit in her life left her feeling empty… The only other thing she could do to fill that emptiness… Was to have her holes filled.
She liked sex up until that point because it was fun… Then she loved sex because everyone who had multiple orgasms every single time they did it would. Her legs were left shaky more often than not. Soon enough, she forgot about the money she owed; she really didn’t care if she ever paid off her debt. The only thing it really stopped her from doing was gambling, which every single day she cared for less and less.
She became pregnant, and the hole in her heart that made her want to gamble was just gone. It wasn’t normal; most people who are addicted as badly as she couldn’t ‘just quit’, but she did. How did it happen? Well, to be fair, she was much smarter than before, from the bonuses her husband gave her. Everything she struggled with before just seemed… Effortless to her now.
Every day was better than the last. She was growing stronger at an impossible speed, in a group that would never betray her and try to trick her, and the wife of a man who could literally fuck her so good she’d see stars afterwards. And now they were technically nobles. She wasn’t sure how it happened, but now that it did, she wasn’t going to let anyone ruin what she had without a fight.
