Temporal Piece

‘It was my fault, all of it. So please, don’t let Prim remember this. Please… I beg you.’ Tears gathered in her eyes but she shut them, trying to prevent them from leaking. But she was but a young girl and her sister knew her better.

‘I know Big Sis Alicia doesn’t want me to know. But please let her forget what happened. It will always eat away at her that her actions affected everyone else. Instead, allow me to remember. I will end the traitor with my own hands and save Big Sis. I do not want to see her bear that burden when she was nothing but a good human.’ Prim Fiorire, the younger cousin of Alicia has noticed her behaviour.

Knowing her for so many years, she could guess that Alicia would try to take the burden. That is why she didn’t want her to do that. Because it would not end nicely if she knew what had happened, Prim on the other hand was sure of being able to handle it, as long as Alicia was around she would be able to power through it.

‘These two…’ Adam looked at the two. It would be a waste to ignore their earnestness. So, he decided to hear their plea and make sure that both of them did not have to watch the dream as for the traitor, he would have to leave that to Celestine.

“Alright, now that the choices have been made there is no need to delay it any longer.” Adam nodded as the eyes focused on him, some filled with faith while others with anxiety.

‘I want to see how he will pull this off.’ Olga was curious about what method Adam was going to use, it stemmed from her position as someone involved, but it was largely influenced by her being a Sorceress.

What Adam promised was no small feat by any means, to turn back the clock and allow this future to be turned into a prophetic dream. He was simply trying to bend the most mysterious forces of the universe, Time.

If the knowledge of sorcery she acquired over the years was anything to go by, the mana needed to form such a spell would be so enormous that the world would not be produce it even after a whole year. And this was just to start the spell which will hypothetically take them back a day at most.

‘But to maintain such a spell that will allow him to turn back a few months. It is impossible.’ Olga wasn’t an expert in time-related sorcery. So, far it had been regarded as impossible even by High Elven sages that walked this land before her.

So, she wasn’t wrong, no one from this world would be able to achieve control over time, as it was way beyond the level they can acquire. But that didn’t apply to an outsider like him, the next instant her eyes widened.

It had nothing to do with Adam bringing his palms together in front of him, rather than the action what shocked her was the amount of Mana held in that small space.

The Mana that this world will produce after a year? Olga was off by the count of a hundred, and she still couldn’t fathom how much Mana was involved.

Swimming in the middle of an ocean, one can never realize how vast it is. It summed up the feelings these women were having at that moment.

‘How much Mana is that?’ Olga was bathed in cold sweat, she may have lost her powers but she didn’t lose her senses. She could feel the dense cluster of mana being concentrated into the size of a bronze coin.

But Adam did not stop there as it further condensed, and soon it had reached the size of an atom. It needed to be of that size to be used as a flashpoint.

‘Here goes nothing.’ Adam was fully prepared to redo this a few times. He was forcing his way through the Administrator’s Zone, which even if allowed was a huge breach if done incorrectly.

That is why he was ready to give up the moment he felt the push from the defense system. Thankfully there was no pushback, so he allowed the reaction to start. A flash of lightning was seen in the moment where the world appeared to be still, and then like millions of thunderstorms concentrated into a single one, and a pocket watch that fit in his palm was formed.

Temporal piece, the device that keeps track of universal time, time passes differently in different areas as it is relative to the point of the viewer. So, such a device is needed to keep track of the universal time from the system’s perspective.

“It is lucky that I was able to get my hands on it without an active Administrator. Pretty sure even the active ones will not allow it.” This construct can only be accessed by the Administrators of the world, and if he needs it he would have to go through them.

But with some special conditions in place—mostly with him paying the universe for his interference—Adam was able to go through with this plan. He only accepted Celestine’s request after knowing that it was within his means to complete it.

As for the price he paid, it was really nothing.

“I can regenerate that amount of Divinity in a week.” At least from his point of view, it was nothing. He glanced at Olga and the Seven Shields, they had been frozen in place since the Temporal Piece was taken out.

“See you in the past then.” He said turning the crown of the watch. It moved the only golden hand present in the watch. It started to move backward on the dark dial that was sprinkled with colorful gemstones that spun in an anticlockwise direction at their own different pace.

And that was the start. Adam saw Celestine and the group walk backward. It wasn’t just them, soon enough the bodies around the world started to lift themselves from the ground, and the group that was formed below this balcony slowly dispersed as Vult’s army marched backward to leave the Capital.

But in this strange world which was now flowing backward like a ball of yarn reeling itself in, Adam sat down on the chair and enjoyed his ginger tea unaffected. According to his calculation, it will take about 2 years for this world to go back 6 months.

“I’ll just read through the series I have been turning down lately.” Adam couldn’t leave the pocket watch unattended for two reasons.

The first reason was that he needed to constantly supply it with Mana, otherwise, it would stop and break the spell. The second reason was that he now needed to defend it as he had taken it out of the system’s grasp.

“To think there would be 5 attempts to steal it already.”
