Chapter 478. Unfair

Seven Sins System Chapter 478. Unfair

“I am…” Red responded, her eyes locked onto mine. There was hurt in her gaze, but not weakness—only the raw intensity of someone who had given everything and was now unsure of her place. “This feels unfair. I mean…” She hesitated, trying to find the right words.

“I was the one who swore my loyalty to you. I’ve waited for you here, in the mortal realm. Always. I was waiting for you to come back.” Her voice trembled slightly but remained steady. “I am always prepared for anything. Destruction, conquering this realm, or even the light realm—I would have been with you. I would have followed you into the fires of hell or the gates of heaven without question.”

She paused again, her eyes searching mine as if looking for some kind of explanation, some justification that would make sense of everything. “I would give you anything, My Lord. My body, my soul, whatever you asked for. If you requested it, I would give it to you.”

Her words were heavy, filled with emotion. “As long as it is you…” she muttered, the pain in her voice unmistakable. “Yet… of all creatures, of all beings in this vast existence, the thread connected you to her.”

Her bitterness was clear. And I couldn’t blame her for feeling that way. In fact, I could relate to her unhappiness. If I were in her position, if I had sworn my loyalty to someone, waited for them for years, prepared to give them everything I had only to see them connected to someone else by a force I couldn’t control—I would have felt the same.

My hand lingered on her cheek, my thumb brushing lightly against her skin. “Red, I…” I stopped, unsure of how to continue. I wasn’t used to this. I wasn’t used to caring like this. My life had always been about control, about knowing exactly where I stood in every situation. But this… this was different. This was something I couldn’t control, something I couldn’t fully understand.

“I know it’s unfair,” I finally said, my voice soft, almost apologetic although it wasn’t my fault. “I never asked for this. I never asked for the thread, or for Puriel to be bound to me like this. And I know it’s not what you wanted either.”

The words felt hollow in my mouth, like I was reciting a script someone else had written. They didn’t reflect the depth of my confusion, the constant tug of war inside me. Was I a hypocrite, pretending that I had control over the situation, or was I simply in denial? Maybe this thread wasn’t just binding me physically—it was warping my emotions too.

I couldn’t help but wonder if I was being manipulated by the thread itself, like some puppet on strings, forced to fulfill a fate I never wanted. I hated that thought. As the Lord of Wrath, I was always in control, always deciding my own path. But now, with this thread, I felt bound to a course I didn’t choose, a line I was forced to follow.

Red paused and bit her lip. Her expression softened, but it didn’t erase the sadness in her eyes. She knew this wasn’t my fault. Yet, that didn’t make it hurt any less. She had been waiting for me, staying loyal for centuries, ignoring her calls. And now, to see me tied to someone else, someone like Puriel.

I couldn’t bear the look in her eyes. The sadness, the pain—it wasn’t the kind of anger or rage I thrived on. This was different. I didn’t like seeing her like this. “Do you still want to make a contract with me?” I asked, my voice carrying an urgency I didn’t intend.

I wanted her to stop thinking like this, to stop showing me this vulnerability that made me feel even more conflicted. I knew she had been waiting for a long time. She had been trying to summon me to the mortal realm, but I didn’t answer. I thought it would be better that way—I didn’t want to drag her into my life anymore. I hoped she would have a better life without me, but her loyalty ran deeper than I’d anticipated.

“Yes,” she answered me without hesitation, her voice firm.

“Then we should settle it now,” I said, a sigh escaping me. If nothing else, this would solidify her place by my side, no matter what happened with the thread or with Puriel. I didn’t want Red to doubt her importance to me.

She approached me slowly and before I knew it, she was sitting on my lap—just like she used to, like she had done countless times in the past. But this time, it felt different. There was an intimacy between us that hadn’t been there before, or at least, I hadn’t acknowledged it in the same way.

Her hands moved to my face, her fingers brushing my cheek, then sliding into my hair, tracing along the strands. She was studying me, looking at me with a closeness that felt... heavy. Almost as if she were seeing me for the first time, really seeing me as me, not just her master, her lord. Her face was close now, her breath mingling with mine. I could feel her hesitation, the way she lingered just inches from me, her lips so close to mine that I could feel the warmth of her breath against my skin.

For a moment, I thought she might kiss me. The way her eyes flicked to my lips, then back to my eyes—it was a silent question. A question she had never asked before.

And yet, even now, as she hovered so close, I saw her hesitation. There was a flicker of doubt in her eyes, a hesitation that hadn’t been there before. She touched my face gently, as if trying to reconcile the feelings swirling inside her. Her thumb brushed against my jaw, and for a moment, I wondered what was going through her mind. Was she wondering if she could compete with Puriel? Was she questioning her own place in my life now?
