Chapter 455. Just Like Poison

Seven Sins System Chapter 455. Just Like Poison

Again, I didn’t answer. 'Just like poison,' I thought.

Love, for a devil like me, seemed to be nothing more than poison. Maybe that’s why devils choose lust over love. Perhaps it’s because we prefer to do everything with logic, or maybe it’s because of our dark and demonic nature that forbids us from embracing such a pure emotion. Love is an explosion of feelings that can lead to insanity and actions that defy reason, making us question why we ever let ourselves fall into its trap.

Julia’s words echoed in my mind, but I couldn’t accept them. She ended the conversation with a finality that left no room for further discussion. “I won’t say anything more,” she said softly. “Take a rest. Maybe with a clearer mind, you can find your answer.” She stood up and walked away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I just nodded, even though I wasn’t sure. No, I was a hundred percent certain that I wouldn’t find the answer, even with a clearer mind. This situation was unprecedented, a unique torment that no devil had ever faced before. Love and the intricate web of fate that bound me to Puriel were foreign concepts in my world, ones that defied the logic and order I clung to.

Quickly, I gulped down the rest of my drink, the cool liquid doing little to quell the chaos inside me. As I lowered the bottle, I felt an intense gaze boring into me. I glanced up, already knowing who it belonged to. Of course, I was right. Across the hall, Puriel sat alone on a bench, her team long gone. Her eyes were locked onto me with an intensity that was impossible to ignore.

I returned her gaze with a challenging one of my own, silently daring her to approach me. It was a silent taunt, a way of saying, "If you have a problem with me, come to me, you coward." But deep down, I knew she wouldn’t take the bait. Not after what happened between us.

I snorted, the sound harsh in the empty training ground.

With a quick, practiced motion, I tossed the empty water bottle into the bin and grabbed my bag, ready to leave. I didn’t want to confront her. Not because I was scared—fear was a foreign concept to me—but because I didn’t know what to do. The idea of letting go and killing her, ending this torturous bond, crossed my mind, but I couldn’t do it due to the thread. But, living in this twisted relationship was a perfect recipe for disaster. It was a no-win situation, a constant torment for me.

‘I never thought a torturer like me would be tortured like this,’ I thought ironically, a bitter smile tugging at my lips.

The irony of my situation was almost laughable. Here I was, a devil known for inflicting pain and suffering, now ensnared in a web of emotional agony that I couldn’t escape. It was a cruel joke, one that the universe seemed intent on playing at my expense.

As I made my way out of the training ground, I couldn’t shake the feeling of her eyes on me. Puriel’s gaze was like a brand, searing into my back with a clear intensity.

I exited the training hall and walked along the corridors, now quieter and emptier as the evening settled in. Only a few students, mentors, and staff remained, their footsteps and conversations echoing softly in the vast space. The solitude should have been comforting, but my thoughts made each step feel heavier.

The sound of footsteps behind me was a reminder that I was not alone. I knew who it was without needing to look. Puriel had decided to follow me. Again. She was probably afraid I would commit some sinful act against the students or staff, positioning herself as a hero ready to save everyone from my supposed malevolence. It was an understandable logic, given our history, but also an annoying one.

I didn’t care anymore. Let her think what she wanted to think. Her assumptions about me were just another layer of the emotional labyrinth I was trapped in. I kept walking, my pace steady and deliberate, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing me react.

Instead, I decided to shift my focus to something more mundane—dinner. I remembered that a new juice booth had just opened near the academy. I knew it from Claire. The thought of my favorite tomato juice lifted my spirits slightly. 'Then a half-price sandwich from the convenience store with a jumbo-size tomato juice will do the trick,' I decided. Tomato juice was the only food I truly enjoyed in this realm. Okay, it was technically a drink, but I didn't mind downing a dozen packs of it as my dinner. So yeah, I would consider it food. The mortal realm's cuisine left much to be desired, except for the potato chips.

'Oh, I should get a pack of chips,' I mused, giving myself a small sliver of something to look forward to. Not the expensive kind, of course—just the affordable, salty goodness that made for a decent snack.

With my new plan in mind, I veered away from the path to my dorm and headed toward the academy gate.

The academy gate loomed ahead. As I walked, I couldn’t shake the feeling of Puriel’s eyes on my back. Yeah, she followed me like a good servant.

Stepping through the gate, I took a deep breath. The streets outside the academy were still lively. The juice booth was just a short walk away, and the thought of the refreshing taste of tomato juice spurred me on.

Reaching the booth, I scanned the menu, relieved to see they had tomato juice in stock. I approached the vendor, a cheerful young woman with a bright smile and an apron splattered with juice stains.

"Good evening! What can I get for you?" she asked, her voice warm and welcoming.

"I'll have a jumbo-size tomato juice," I replied, trying to match her enthusiasm with a polite smile.
