Horyu pondered the system notification he had received earlier. The quest didn't specify how much he should leave for Wave Country, offering him a loophole to exploit. He could leave a minimal amount, just enough for the country to stabilize, while securing the rest for Shisui's mission. The real challenge, however, was Kurenai. Would she agree to such a plan, or would her morals prevent her from deceiving Shisui?
From what he knew, Kurenai was also a good person, but would she purposefully deceive Shisui? The question loomed in Horyu's mind as he contemplated his next move. He had to be subtle about it. Securing the country's future after they were gone was paramount, and keeping Kurenai, Hinata, and Shino in the dark was a necessary precaution. His system allowed him to hide money in his inventory, a tool he intended to use to leave a portion of Gato's assets for Wave Country's development. It was a calculated move, one that would ensure the country's stability while also fulfilling his own objectives.
Kurenai, with a map spread out before them, marked several points. "These are Gato's bases around the city. I've sent a signal, and Anbu will raid other places as we speak. Go and find all the valuables. Including the drugs, weapons, and slaves. Konoha will not use them but will gain profit out of them." Her voice was steady, the mark of a seasoned shinobi focused on the mission at hand.
Hinata's expression wavered slightly at the mention of the task, while Shino merely nodded in acknowledgment. Horyu's eyes scanned the map, pinpointing the areas most likely to house substantial cash reserves. Drugs, weapons, and slaves wouldn’t serve his purpose; he needed cold, hard cash, something tangible that would significantly impact Wave Country's future.
When they met a week later, all four were holding scrolls that now housed everything they gathered. Kurenai took all the scrolls from them, then did a mandatory search to see if anyone was hiding something. It was something she did reluctantly. She didn't want to suspect her students, but that was the rule.
The freed slaves had been secured for ANBU to deal with later, thus marking the completion of their mission. After a thorough search by Kurenai to ensure no one was concealing any items, the team gathered at the newly completed bridge. Tazuna, with a wide smile of genuine gratitude, signed the scroll and bowed deeply. "Thank you all very much!" he exclaimed, his voice carrying the weight of his appreciation.
He then turned to Horyu, his eyes filled with a deeper respect. "Horyu-san, thank you for protecting my daughter and grandson." His words were simple, but they resonated with sincerity. Horyu nodded, accepting the thanks with a nonchalant shrug. He wasn't in it for gratitude; his actions were driven by the quests and rewards the system provided, but he wasn't immune to the acknowledgment of his deeds.
As they left for Konoha, the throng of Wave Country residents began to congregate behind Tazuna. A lively buzz filled the air, a mix of relief and anticipation. They were discussing the future, their future, something that seemed brighter now, something tangible in the form of the bridge before them. "What should we name the bridge?" one voice called out, sparking a flurry of suggestions. "Hope!" shouted another. "New Beginning!" echoed a third. The names, each a testament to their struggles and dreams, filled the air like a chorus of newfound freedom.
Tazuna listened, a smile playing on his lips, his eyes reflecting the spark of each idea. He raised his hands, calling for silence. The crowd hushed, eager to hear the decision of the man who had become their symbol of resilience. "We will call it The Great Wave of Independence," he declared, his voice steady and proud. Murmurs of approval rippled through the crowd, the name resonating with the spirit of what they had all endured and overcome.
While the city of the Wave Country buzzed with the excitement of the newly christened Great Wave of Independence bridge, a solitary figure - a clone of Horyu - materialized in the quiet, near-deserted streets. The clone, a perfect replica of Horyu, moved with a purpose, his steps echoing softly against the cobblestone roads. The original Horyu, though not physically present, was orchestrating every move through the interconnected system functions, ensuring his plan was executed flawlessly.
The clone reached into the depths of its inventory, retrieving bags of cash. These weren't just any bags; they were the result of Horyu's meticulous planning, a portion of Gato's ill-gotten wealth, now repurposed for a greater cause. The bags were heavy, each one filled to the brim with currency that would soon breathe life into the Wave Country's struggling economy.
With a swift motion, the clone placed the bags at strategic points throughout the city. The streets, usually bustling with activity, were silent witnesses to this act of covert generosity. As the clone completed its task, it paused for a moment, surveying the scene. This wasn't an act of charity for charity's sake; it was a calculated move, a way to ensure the future stability of the Wave Country while also fulfilling the conditions of the quest.
With the bags securely placed, the clone vanished in a puff of smoke, its mission accomplished. The streets remained empty, the bags of money untouched, waiting to be discovered by the returning residents.
As the people of the city began to trickle back from the bridge, their eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the money, murmurs of confusion and awe spread through the crowd. The discovery of the cash, seemingly appearing out of thin air, sparked a flurry of speculation and excitement.
Tazuna, returning with the rest of the crowd, was among the first to spot the bags. He approached cautiously, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of who might have left such a fortune. Upon opening a bag and seeing its contents, his expression shifted from confusion to realization.
"This... This is a fortune," he murmured, his voice barely audible over the growing buzz of the crowd. The implications of this discovery were not lost on him. This money could rebuild their country, provide for their people, and ensure a future they had only dared to dream of.
He turned to the gathered crowd, raising his voice to be heard. "People of the Wave Country, it seems we have been blessed with a gift. A gift that will help us rebuild our homes, our lives, and our future." His words were met with cheers and tears of joy, the reality of their newfound fortune sinking in.
As the news spread, the streets filled with a renewed energy. People began to discuss plans for the money, ideas for rebuilding their city, and dreams of a prosperous future. The atmosphere was electric, a palpable sense of hope and determination permeating the air.
Tazuna, acting as the de facto leader, organized groups to distribute the money fairly. He made sure each family received enough to start over, to rebuild what had been lost. The remaining funds were allocated to public projects: repairing roads, building schools, and ensuring the city's infrastructure was restored.
