Although I felt embarrassed by the look of amusement that never left the duchesses face as she watched. I could only endure the gaze as a servant quietly walked into the room and put a plate in front of me with a bow, Even to this day I still couldn't help but feel uncomfortable having others serve me.
I felt my stomach rumbling seeing the steaming bacon and the choices of fruit. I grabbed the fork and started eating as i subconsciously looked at the empty seat beside me, The image of Ella riding Leon once again filled my head and I felt my stomach turn just enough for me to lose my appetite.
'Damn it' I put my fork down and leaned my head on my hand but I couldn't help but narrow my eyes.
'Mh?' My gaze falling on the table right beside the duchesses plate where a black envelope sat lined up neatly.
"What's that?" I asked raising my eyebrow as the duchess followed my gaze and looked at the envelope as well.
"It's a letter" She made a smile although for some reason she looked slightly annoyed as she reached and grabbed it.
"From the king" The duchesses words made me turn stiff before I let out a sigh as she held it out to me.
"The king?" Nessa asked curiously beside me as she glanced up.
I grabbed the envelope from The duchesses hand and felt the smooth paper across my skin. I examined it closely seeing the golden engraved lined and white he unmistakable royal seal in the upper corner, In all honesty i wanted to pretend I didn't see it but i knew I couldn't do such a thing.
"What's it say?" I asked not expecting a response as I broke the seal pulling out and unfolding the letter.
"Another mission huh?" I sighed once more reading the contents quickly as I felt weight sit upon my shoulders.
The king rarely contacted me or the duchess and the only time he personally sent messages was something serious, Although I wasn't nervous I was definitely apprehensive.
"We should pack light" I joked trying to lighten my own mood as I pushed the letter over it Nessa who's eyebrows furrowed.
"I guess we're headed to the south" I said grabbing my fork and sticking a piece of fruit in my mouth.
"Yes although I'm not familiar with the south I hear it's very hot this time of year" The duchess nodded her head tapping her finger on the table as if already planning our trip.
"I don't like the heat" Nessa mumbled to my side as she pushed the letter away afte reading its contents.
'A demon general?' The letters contents unfolded in my head and I subconsciously gripped my hands shut.
We shared a brief moment of levity the tension between us easing slightly but it was obvious that the weight of our new mission had already started to affect us. I could notice Nessa nibbling on her bottom lip as she put a strawberry in her mouth while the duchess continued to tap her dainty finger on the table
It wasn't until a couple minutes did the silence break and the sound of footsteps came close to the dining area. I looked over as the foot pushed open and the figure of Ella stepped inside, She looked more composed than when I had seen her. Now she was fully clothed in a basic shirt and a tight pair of pants that huffed her thighs tightly.
It seemed that she took a shower as her hair and skin was drenched in sweat anymore although her cheeks still slightly flushed but the sight of her still stirred a mix of emotions within me. The images of her being intimate with Leon filled my head and I subconsciously clenched my hands.
"Sorry I'm late" Ella greeted her voice filled with slight embarrassment as she took the seat beside me.
"it's fine" I replied forcing a smile as I looked over at her before I grabbed the letter and pushed it over.
"We just got a new mission from the king" My words made her eyebrows go upward as she reached out and grabbed it.
"South?" Ella asked as her eyes scanned the letter of her gaze slowly growing serious the further down she got.
"Yes" The duchess replied before I could as her finger finally stopped tapping.
"I see" Ella Looked up as her gaze met the duchesses with a deep gaze.
'The south' I couldn't help but feel like I was sitting at the edge of my seat.
