Chapter 28 – Gluttony

We walk through the town, heading back to the inn. It seems that day’s starting to come. The clouds up above are bathed in brilliant shades of red, orange, and pink, while a slight cold still hangs in the air, tickling the nose. As the sun crests over the tree line, the first waves of warmth begin to fill my body.

I look over at Lulu and see her looking up at the clouds above with a smile. She looks over to me and says,

“Beautiful. The sunrise is alright, too.”

I smile at her and pull her hand up to my mouth, giving it a kiss.

“Took the words right out of my mouth.”

I look around for a bit to check for any other people before leaning in and giving her a kiss on the cheek. As I pull away, I see something out of the corner of my eye. A deep, Ruby-shaded eye looking right at us from about three inches away.

Bright, silver locks of long hair with two fluffy ears right atop her head. She stares right at us with a mischievous grin before backing off. She lets out a light laugh before talking to us,

“Nyahahaha! Quite close twins, aren’t you two? Your party is rather neat! It’s not every day you get to see twin demons, a demonic human, and a harpy gather together!”

I step in front of Lulu, seeing the panic clear on her face as our biggest secret is outed so easily. My brows furrow and I speak to her carefully. I can tell how powerful she is. We’re basically bugs to her.

“How do you know that?”

She smiles at us and waves her hand dismissively,

“Please, live long enough and you’ll easily tell the difference between an elf and a demon! Don’t worry, I’m not demonophobic or whatever! I know too many good demons to think they’re all evil! Anyways, I just wanted to confirm something. We’ll meet again eventually! Bye bye, lovebirds! Have lots of sex and get stronger! Nyahahaha!”

A blast of air suddenly hits all of us, causing us to blink. When our eyes are open, the white-haired catgirl is nowhere to be seen. I even try looking around the area and up, thinking she may have disappeared like a caped vigilante. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I look over at Lulu and see her staring off into space with a terrified expression. I immediately walk in front of her and cup her cheeks, worried beyond belief,

“Baby girl, are you okay? What’s wrong? Did that weird lady do something to you?”

She slowly shakes her head before looking at me. She hugs me, her limbs shaking, before saying,

“M-mommy… h-her status… I… I couldn’t see it… A-Analyze… Failed…”

“W-what? Analyze failed? How?! I mean, I could see it failing against something like, I dunno, a goddess or something… But… A catgirl?”

Alice grabs my sleeve with a shaking hand, looking me in the eyes with pure terror. She looks around for a second in paranoia before saying,

“L-l-Lily… that… Catgirl… She had… White hair and… Red eyes, correct?”

I look at her and nod my head,

“Yeah. Her eyes seemed kinda… Distant… Old, almost. Like the eyes of a person who’s seen everything.”

Mina stumbles backwards after I confirm this, while Alice’s eyes go even wider. Mina manages to stumble over to me and falls to her knees, wrapping her arms around me and nuzzling into my legs for comfort.

Who the hell was that person to shake all of them so thoroughly? Was that actually a goddess or something?

Alice, seemingly sensing my confusion, answers my silent question:

“If… That was real, and not an illusion… You may have just met… Demon Lord Lexileth… the Demon Lord of Gluttony… She’s… The Vampire Progenitor, and a catkin… In the fairy tales, she’s said to have blood red eyes, and stark white hair. The… The only times she ever shows herself is usually… Before the birth of another demon lord…”

Lulu and I look at each other and then back to the two girls who get a look of realization on their faces. I put a finger up to my mouth before saying,

“Let’s save this for the inn, alright?”

—--------------

After getting back to the inn, the four of us immediately plop down onto the bed and turn into slime girls. The warm, fluffy comfort of the mattress makes me feel more like the Demon Lord of Sloth than Lust. We lie there for several minutes, letting our nerves and muscles wind down after the long night.

Lulu reaches over to hold my hand as she asks Alice a question about our previous encounter,

“So… Demon Lord of Gluttony, huh? I’m surprised… I figured it would’ve been a slime or another gluttonous monster… Not a relatively cute catgirl… Though, the fact that analyze failed on her…”

Alice sighs and crawls over on the bed to the two of us. She lays her head on my stomach and traces circles on my arm as she answers,

“Well, she’s actually mellowed out in current years, if the tales are to be believed. She’s the progenitor of vampires. In fairy tales, she’s depicted as a bloodthirsty maniac that drained the blood of every being she came across. Though, these are heavily disputed. She’s far older that human civilization and writing after all. Cave paintings of a cat-like figure drenched in blood have been found across the continent.”

Mina crawls over to Lulu and takes her other hand. I wrap my arm around Alice’s waist and let her lay down more comfortably as Mina continues on with her own knowledge:

“Harpies just recently began forming a civilization, so we have even less knowledge of her. Though, I looked into the different demon lords after coming to the civilized world. Apparently, she resides in a castle known as Blackstone. It’s situated on the landbridge connecting the lower continent to Hero’s End in the north. She’s the oldest Demon Lord, and is, as Alice said, the vampire progenitor. Not much is known to her, as she tends to keep to herself and has only ever left her castle in recent time to find newborn Demon Lords. The last recorded evidence of her was about a century ago, with the birth of the Demon Lord of Pride, who not much is known about.”

I nod along as they explain before asking,

“Uh, are there any other known demon lords?”

Alice nods her head and looks up at me,

“I told you guys a few days ago, but quite a bit has happened since then. I’ll go over them in more detail now. Yeah, there’s three other known demon lords. They’re all named, and we know quite a bit about two, but the third keeps to herself. There’s Greed, AKA Isadora Coveton. She’s a corrupted fairy. She’s the second oldest demon lord. Then Wrath, Valeria Caller. She’s a Draconic Human. Basically a human with the blood of a dragon. Someone tried to get the name changed to Dragonborn at one point, but that’s a different species so people ignored it. Lastly, Envy, Daxis. She’s a Hydra.”

I listen intently to their explanation, feeling a bit excited at all this. So we have Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Wrath, and Pride. Sloth was killed by the hero. That means… Lulu and I will be Lust? Or will we be two different demon lords of Lust? Wouldn’t that break the balance? I look over to Alice, who looks up at me with pouting cheeks,

“You two are hiding something from me!”

I shake my head and gently run my fingers through her hair,

“No, we’re not. I promise. We’ll tell you two everything, okay? After all, you’re both part of our family, right baby girl?”

I look to Lulu, who nods her head and squeezes my and Mina’s hands. I gently squeeze back before saying,

“Alright. Well, Lulu and I weren’t actually born here. We were summoned. By someone or something. I have no idea, and I honestly don’t really care. But, we both have vague memories of lives before this. Before becoming demons. I was a human woman from a planet called Earth, I know that much. I don’t remember my name, or anything more detailed. When we were brought here, we immediately fell in love with each other. Right after we fucked for the first time, we received the Taboo of Corrupted Twins… And I then saw that we had the Demon Lord Seed… Both of us.”

Alice looks up at us with what seems to be a bit of confusion, mixed with a hint of fear. Though, this fear dissipates almost immediately as she fights against whatever thought popped up. She looks at the two of us and then seems to get realization,

“You know… I was gonna say that one of you is likely the Demon Lord of Sloth, but there’s something more likely… You two are twins. In stories, twins are said to share parts of their soul with one another. It’s why when twins are separated, it leads to their connection becoming twisted. They’re literally soulmates. It’s the reason the law of Twin Separation exists. Twins have to be taught what their connection means. But… What this means for you two… Is that the Demon Lord Seed is shared between you. It’s likely embedded directly into your souls. Meaning, you two are the Twin Demonlords of Lust.”
