Chapter 266 – No Rush
“That’s fair. Frankly, I don’t mind whichever type of relationship we have.”
Her proposal was alluring, but I was bitten barely a few days ago. There was no need to repeat the same mistake. She acted friendly, yet I shouldn’t forget we had only been formally introduced the day before.
Even though she was Kuini’s friend and a bunny, it was impossible to know what was in people’s hearts. I thought I had become good at judging others, but Wico had proven me wrong. I had no reason to be confident that I could do better now. There was no need to take any unnecessary risks.
“I understand. Well, in the end, we’ve only known one another for a day. Let’s get familiar with each other slowly before making any hasty decisions.”
I could only see one side of her face, but it was clear she looked disappointed.
“...I see. You’re right, I was too much in a hurry. Sorry about that.”
“No worries. I can understand being excited about trying something you’ve been looking forward to for a long time. Speaking of which, you’re writing books about it, but you haven’t tried it yourself?”
She nodded.
“Yes. Pathetic, right?”
I shook my head.
“I didn’t say that. I was just curious how you managed to write so many details without prior experience.”
“It’s mostly from reading other similar books and exchanging letters with similarly minded people in Geola.”
“Is there a club or something?”
“Club?”
“I mean, a group of such people that meets regularly?”
“Not exactly. I only met them at the bookshop I use in Geola, when I went there to sell my books and buy some others. Most of them are rich, so they like exchanging a lot of letters. Some of them are people who like my books, too.”
“They must be happy, being in direct contact with the author they admire.”
She chuckled.
“It’s true that a lot of them are very enthusiastic. They even give suggestions for my stories.”
We talked for a bit more before I decided it was time to go.
“Can I borrow another book?”
“Yes, of course. Take whatever you want.”
Just like that, I acquired a free source of erotic material. It wouldn’t hurt to know more about the topic, just in case.
After getting the food from the Muyal family and the meals prepared by the village women, I moved on with my normal tasks. A bit before lunch, I visited the city hall again. Funnily enough, I almost always managed to get to see the Vejas duo whenever I came, unless Crali was in a meeting. It seemed the girl wasn’t that busy on normal days because she shrewdly gave most of her work to her subordinates. The city hall officials were mostly old companions whom Angin trusted, which meant that there was no need to worry much about corruption and the like.
My purpose this time was to accept Angin’s previous proposal about Wico’s flying home. After thinking it through when I was calmer, I saw no reason to refuse a gift of such high value. It would be good compensation for the mental distress I incurred due to this event. The only downside was the maintenance cost, but that wasn’t a big deal compared to the value of the property.
I had pondered selling it, but then chose to keep it instead. While I wouldn’t use it personally, I thought there might be some use for it in the future. Maybe I could gift it in exchange for some favor, or exchange it for something. The point is that the number of such available sky homes was usually zero. Even Wico had bought hers a long time ago, when the city was far from what it was today. If someone wanted to own one, they would have to build it from scratch, even though that wouldn’t be necessarily possible either. Geola’s sky was already crowded with these homes, and it was hard getting permission to add yet another one. As such, its real value was more in its scarcity than in the home itself. A potential great asset for the future.
In the city hall, I was sent to another place in town, where the ownership was swiftly transferred to me. Just like that, I now possessed a flying home.
Speaking of the aftermath, I had decided to absorb the artifact, too. Even though most of my trump cards were better, the fact that this one could be used several times was a great boon. It felt a bit weird at first, but I got used to the foreign sensation inside my body soon enough. I also tested it. I let sel accumulate inside it for a few hours and “activated” it. The amount was low, and nothing much changed for me. However, I was able to confirm everything Angin said, including the possibility of getting rid of it by myself whenever I wanted. I now had to let it rest and accumulate sel to its limit. It only took around one or two percent of my natural sel per day, so it was a process that took a long time. I estimated I could use it at full power in about three to four seasons.
When this was done, I made my way to my shop. I was late, but that wasn’t an issue. I had hired a manager precisely for that reason. My employees were already working on cleaning and preparing the store when I arrived, together with the prototype selnic items.
I carefully explained how they all worked, and, as expected, my employees ended up marveling at the technological prowess. The fridge and oven were particularly miraculous to them, especially the ability to change the temperature to adjust for better cooking in the oven. It also helped that the three items had similar sleek looks, giving them a high-class feel.
It didn’t take long before they got engrossed in playing with them, which was fine since they needed to understand how they worked to sell them later.
