Chapter 174 – Early Meeting
By the end of the day, things had turned out as expected. I only managed to sell something a few times, mostly in the late afternoon. I wasn’t worried, though, since I knew word of mouth would do the rest for me, at least in the neighborhood. No matter what, women with very tight budgets couldn't ignore such a good deal.
When I came back home, the construction had gone well. The building company was satisfied with the good-quality materials, and we estimated the remaining work to be around a week, a week and a half at most. Suuru also seemed in a better mood now, especially after learning that I managed to sell a little in dome 6.
The following day, I was fetching my daily stock of food in the Muyal family warehouse when Kuini took the initiative to speak to me, something that was relatively rare.
“My Lord.”
“Yes?”
“Would you like to visit the relief building together again?”
I put the box I was holding in my carriage and turned toward her. She was blushing a little, looking away from me as usual.
“I’d gladly do so, cute Kuini.”
She glanced at me, smiling a little.
“Really?”
“Of course.”
“Then… You’re busy during the day, so what about tomorrow, early in the morning, during the first relief time?”
“Sounds perfect. Do you want to do what we talked about last time?”
She blushed even further but still nodded.
“…Yes.”
“All right. But there’s something we need to talk about.”
Sensing something in my tone, she looked at me for the first time, trying to get some meaning from my facial expression.
“What is it?”
“It’s about our relationship.”
Her eyes widened a little as she focused fully on me.
“I believe it’s better to avoid any misunderstanding and unnecessary hurting one another, so I’ll tell you directly. I’m not seeking a serious relationship with anyone right now.”
“Oh…”
She was flustered for a few moments, only to shake her head eventually.
“I… I won’t say I didn’t think about it, but that wasn’t what I meant, my Lord.”
“No?”
“You still don’t understand bunnies well. We will form a serious relationship and even marry if we love someone, but most of the time, we are very… free-minded.”
“What do you mean?”
“Anything that happens during relief time… and even outside of it, shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s like, um, like good friends and neighbors playing together, and helping each other. It doesn’t involve deep feelings.”
“Can you detach yourselves from your feelings so completely?”
“No, it’s not like that. Maybe it’s better if I say we feel good together while appreciating each other. We share something, and we like each other, but we don’t necessarily love one another.”
The way she described this made me think about the concept of sex friends I introduced to Selva. Judging from her previous reaction, the rhinoceros girl didn’t know about it, and it made sense since this was a modern concept. However, the words might be modern, but the idea itself is as old as the universe. Young teenagers fooling around without any deep feelings was something natural because it was obvious and healthy to be curious about one’s body, and the body of the opposite sex.
Coupled with the bunnies’ physical needs and the ensuing culture, it made sense that they evolved in that direction. In a way, it was like having sex friends but on the level of a community, and in a safe and protected environment.
“I think I understand. What about you, Kuini? Are you fine with our relationship being like that?”
“Yes.”
“Won’t you be upset if I get intimate with someone else?”
“Why would I? Maybe if we were… m-married and you did something behind my back without telling me, but otherwise, I see no reason to be upset.”
“Wow… I guess it’s true that traveling abroad is all about getting to experience different cultures.”
She smiled again. I wasn’t sure if I should have been startled by her open-mindedness or if I should have expected it considering the context. So that was what happened when a whole village, or a whole species, needed to have sexual relief every six hours. Thinking about it, it made sense. People would come and go, and it wasn’t necessarily possible to have fixed partners all the time unless one was married. Plus, I guess being with someone else topped relieving oneself by far, just like how a blowjob and cunnilingus were a hundred times better than using one’s hand.
“You don’t need to worry about bunnies. We’re very open-minded when it comes to things like these.”
“Yes, it’s amazing. Okay then, it’s fine if we both agree on not involving deep feelings.”
I came closer to her and whispered in her ears.
“I’ll take good care of you tomorrow, Kuini. Very good care.”
She gasped and took a step back, looking away from me again.
“Y-Yes, My Lord. P-Please be good to your little bunny.”
“Oh, I will, no need to worry about that.”
I approached my face to her again and gave her a small peck on her lips, which froze the girl on the spot.
“You can look forward to it.”
I swiftly finished loading the remaining boxes and left together with my carriage, leaving the young bunny still rooted to the spot.
I spent my day thinking about what would happen the next morning, handling my tasks automatically. There still wasn’t anyone coming to get interviewed so that didn’t take any of my time. Instead, food sales were much better, starting from the moment I set up the stall. I was glad to see folks coming to buy from me even though I was far from other similar merchants. I still didn’t manage to sell as much as when we were in 82 but it was only a matter of time.
Geola’s situation was also the same and didn’t require anything from me at the moment.
The future looked bright again after so much trouble. Just like that, the day passed in the blink of an eye and it was time for my date with the sweet bunny.
