Chap 92: esper
[World: mob psycho]
[Quest: keep mob from getting 100% stressed]
With that is a clock counting down showing through one floating panel.
[03:50:10]
Standing in the peaceful street, Takichi and Takune stare at the quest with discomfort faces.
"Hey, how are we supposed to do this ?" Takichi ask.
"I'm just as clueless as you." He eyed the people around, "let's just focus on finding him first."
Instead of fighting anyone, this mission is about guarding someone. What makes it more difficult is who he is supposed to watch.
Mob, from his memory, is an introverted kid who closes himself off from everyone. How can he approach a person like that ?
'Should we just approach directly or monitor them remotely ? Assuming the time limit, there must be something that we should take care of before it can reach her.'
One of the body shakes his head, 'too careless.' He thought. Burning most of his supplies for the previous gate was not worth it, even when he got a new power.
That very same power is hurting him, [Telekinesis] was like a new part of him. He can feel it through all of his bodies without the need to concentrated, he can sense things. All sort of things.
Every object, every person, even better for the main body as Takumi feels his curse sense is growing much faster.
But growing this fast has its ups and downs, like the constant headache at the back of his skull. A side effect of the rapid development of his psychic power, for now he is fine but the same can not be said for his future. Best option is to fix it as soon as possible.
That's why he is seeking someone, coming here, mob is a master of using psychic power. The kid's self-esteem is too low to realize that or maybe they do and chose to ignore it. Regardless, he has a clear plan to find her and help her. Assuming the mob of this world is a "her" at all, no matter how obvious the answer to that question is. Takichi and Takune can't imagine a picture with a genderbended version of mob.
The two bodies stop by a school, not directly. Far enough so they can see who'll come out but not be noticeable themself.
Casually ignoring the glance of a woman walking by, minutes go by, and the two eventually see.....her. Carrying a typical look; if it weren't for the fact that they saw the anime, they would have missed her.
Long braided hair and a really forgettable face. Not to mention the insanely large amount of psychic energy he's picking up. No matter the shy face the kid puts up around her friends or the way she stammers to mundane questions.
By trying to hide her powers, she also locked her emotions. If it ever came to 100% limit, all that emotion that she bottled up would explode out.
[02:00:55]
Observing from a distance, mob was on her way with another person that he guessed to be her sister. Then they spotted a small source of psychic energy appearing from one small corner on the street.
"There!" Both bodies jumped right up and moved.
Their body disappeared from one point and reappeared right where they found the signature.
A woman with mohawk hair, wearing black tank top, a scar across her chin.
Takichi moved in first, throwing a left hook boosted with psychic energy. Landing a punch before she could even register what was going on. The woman's body levitates in the air, caught by the neck.
She tries to use her psychic power, and a purple line runs around her fist. Clenching to strike but Takichi has The World follow up, gut-punching her twice and then grabbing her in a chokehold.
*crack* The sound of bones breaking came along with a scream when the mohawk woman tried to escape, but her mouth was immediately covered.
"Now you will answer our question; blink once if you agree." Hearing the silent threat, she blinks in compliance. The World let go of the woman's mouth open so she could talk.
"Good. Are you from the organization known as Claw?"
"Yes."
"What are your orders ?"
"To capture any kid with a psychic potential and bring them back to base."
"Hmm." Tapping his forehead, the plot isn't so clear in his head since the last time he watched mob psycho.
"That's all?"
"Yeah."
He pressed for some more questions, like where are their base of operation and the future goals.
'These guys won't be too much of a trouble, mob can deal with this on her own later.' Looking through some things the woman has in her pocket, he finds something that looks like a spray can.
[Psychic knockout gas]
"What a convenient device. I'll be taking this." Takichi said as he sprayed it right at the woman's face. She immediately lost consciousness, and he left her behind.
If he hadn't stepped in, this woman would have caused the mob some trouble and made her act out. Eventually leading to some plot development in the series.
[01:56:14]
Walking out with confidence, Takichi and Takune were pretty relaxed. The two think they handled the event well enough that there would be nothing more to worry about until the time of his mission ends.
And they were right, for the rest of their mission time. Nothing much happened; the two bodies just sort of just chilled while keeping an eye for Mob in case the universe decides to throw them a curve ball. Thankfully, it did not.
[00:10:59]
Stopping herself suddenly in the middle of the road, mob said goodbye to her sister. Watching her walk away from view.
The kid turns around, a blank expression on her face. Takichi and Takune stand waiting behind her.
"Hello." She said, unaware of these strangers' intent, "Why are you two following me ?"
"Hello there, can i call you mob ?" Takichi replied, "I am Takichi, and over here is Takune, but you don't need to remember our names. We're just here to ask for a bit of help."
"My powers, I have some trouble controlling it. And it is causing me some minor pain." Takichi said, sounding anxious.
"We were told you might know how to fix it. You're Kageyama Shigeo, right? The powerful esper." Takune said.
"I… I can try. But I’m not really a teacher or anything." Mob said,
"Please, this could turn badly if his power ran out of control."
Hearing his reason, Mob looks down, thinking for a second, then walks over to Takichi.
"Just... stand still. Don’t think about stopping it." Mob raises one hand awkwardly. A faint blue glow surrounds her and to Takichi. The air shifts as she slowly extends the energy.
Takichi close his eyes, he can feel an greater presence in his mind. It lingers in there for a moment and leaves. When he opens his eyes again, the headache is gone.
[Ding]
[User skill: [Telekinesis] has been changed to [esper](S)]
"Do you still feel any discomfort ?" Pulling her hand back, mob watches as Takichi blinks a couple of times. A smile plaster on his face.
"You're really good at this, but I suppose that is a given with all that psychic energy you have."
"All i did was adjust it. Just a little. Like… tuning a radio."
"That’s still incredible. You make it look easy." Takichi flexed one of his hands, lifting up Takune easily with no sign of a headache.
Hearing his praises, she shakes her head quickly "No. I’m just used to this feeling." It's obvious she isn't used to compliments. Looking a little uncomfortable with the praise.
"Um… it’s not that impressive, You should talk to someone from the Awakening Lab. Or maybe… train with someone like Reigen."
"That’s your mentor, right?"
Mob nodded, "Yeah. He’s... he’s good at giving advice."
"Thank you, Mob. I really mean it." Both of them bowed slightly to her.
"I didn’t really do anything…" Mob fidgets slightly and turns away, his expression still neutral but a bit red in the ears. "If this is all, then i'll be on my way now. Have a nice day." She bid her farewell, leaving them to go back home.
