Chapter 85. Magic book
[Just let her stay there. She's trying to build up her endurance for being around you.]
Tarakona hinted as Voras sat on the ground and two meters away from us. She was finding everything but us to look at and after Tarakona's warning we were just going to leave her.
"Whatever happened to that book?" I asked as a conversation starter so that she could listen in if she wanted to.
We were all drying off in the sun and while I was pretty much dry already, Zeldi's fur took a little longer. Was I going to complain about her lying on the ground in nothing but a bra? Not at all.
"It's still in my room. Lemme go get it." Zeldi responded getting up and running towards the house.
I was going to stop her and say we could have a look at it later but my words got caught in my throat when her tail raised as she kicked off. Instead I watched her go with interest.
[Do humans have a specific breeding cycle? Because you are very very active right now.]
"Uuuum no." I responded intellectually once Zeldi was out of sight. "Humans typically breed all year round."
Tarakona let out a snort that created a gust of frosty air.
[I pray your females are the same, otherwise your species would struggle with only one partner for each male.]
She did make a good point. What if humans went into heat like other animals? Birthing hospitals would be swamped at specific times of the year and quite the rest.
"Do Dragons have a period of time when they go into heat?" I asked a little curious. Tarakona hadn't really done that at least to my knowledge. She'd very clearly been horny when we got her Draganoid form.
[Not a specific time in the tradition sense, but we do have periods of intense need. These times are usually when our mate lets off their own breeding pheromones. We can choose to ignore them to a point but if we spend enough around them it naturally effects us.]
"So male Dragons get horny and that makes the females horny?" I simplified.
[An oversimplification but yes. Female Dragons will try to avoid this by regularly sleeping with their mates as the breeding lust can distract them from outside threats.]
Oh.
Before I could apologize Tarakona answered the question that was starting to build.
[No my love you did not trigger that in me when we did our mating flight. If you had we would have been pulled back to the farm still copulating. I would not have been satisfied with a single night.]
"And other times?" I asked letting out a small breath. "You have mentioned my pheromones a few times now."
[Your size plays a large part in that I'm afraid my love. You do not produce enough to send me into a mating frenzy if you ever wanted to and when you were a Dragon you were more interested in making sure you did everything right. It ment you didn't release as much pheromones. I would also need to spend a few hours just basking in your smell for it to truly trigger.]
"So become a Dragon again and make an area smell like me for you. Got it." I cheekily replied only for Tarakona to match me.
[My love if you became a Dragon again I would take you to my room and show you exactly why you shouldn't do that. We have other duties that require our attention and cannot just abandon them for multiple days.]
"We have Zeldi. I'm sure she would be able to take over being in charge for that time." I offered.
Tarakona purred. A low sound that seemed to shake the ground as if she were trying to picture it as well.
[You spoil me my love.]
Zeldi ran back over at this point and it was obvious Tarakona had been extending our conversation to her as well.
"Could you imagine that Master? I would be happy to take over being in charge of the farm while you take charge of Tarakona."
I couldn't help but smile. The thought of becoming a Dragon again had crossed my mind and part of me wanted to find out if I could get some type of shape shifting ability.
Wait. Hey Deed thing? Can you make that a quest reward? And not a single use but an actual permanent ability?
I can. But not yet.
And how many more quests would it take?
Not too many. If it revolves around making the Livestock happy it's a lot easier. Though understanding our own creation is something we're still trying to figure out.
That's more information than I've previously been given. Do you know who or what created you?
All we know is that it was another Livestock. Any more than that is guesswork.
That's interesting. At least that answers the chicken and egg question I've had. Livestock came first then the Deeds.
The girls seemed to be patiently waiting as I had this internal conversation.
"Well let's just say it's potentially a reward I could get in the future. At least the Deed seems to think so." I said as an explanation of what I was doing while quiet.
"Maybe even I could experience your Dragon form." Zeldi joked as she brought the book forward.
[You would break sister Zeldi. We are not quite the same size you know.]
"But he would adapt to fit me regardless." Zeldi countered.
I looked up from the book as it was handed to me.
That posed a lot of questions as to how far the adaptability went. It made me bigger we knew that but could it also make me smaller if I was a Dragon?
Then again I hadn't really tried to stick my dick in Tarakona while I was still human. Something I didn't want to try but science.
Anyway. Magic book.
"How do I go about getting the spell from this book?" My question thankfully distracted the two of them from their train of thought.
"No idea. Just open it and see what happens I guess." Zeldi said with excitement.
Tarakona just tilted her head in equal confusion.
So without any delay I opened the book to the first page... And woke up on the edge of the lake with my head between Zeldi's chest and a pounding headache.
"What just. Oww." I groaned letting the book fall from its place on my lap. I had apparently gotten to the end of the book at some point based on where it was opened to.
"You are finally back with us Master." Zeldi said with relief evident in her voice.
"I guess?" I questioned pushing the book away from me. Whatever just happened I want nothing to do with it.
"You were so engrossed in reading that you wouldn't respond to us. Not even Tarakona screaming into your mind seemed to phase you." Zeldi answered as she ran a hand through my hair.
It was getting a bit long.
[It was unsettling.]
Tarakona shifted to bring her head in front of us.
[I had not thought to ask Ventress how exactly it works as I have to guess that what just happened was part of the process towards learning the spell.]
"If that's the case, magic must be very rewarding to go through all that." I replied getting out of Zeldi's embrace to stretch.
Everything felt tight like I hadn't moved in hours, and judging from the sun as it was almost touching the horizon it probably had been.
Zeldi picked up the book from the ground and before anyone could say anything she opened it to a random page.
Unlike myself however, nothing seemed to happen to her.
"Well Ventress was right about it being single use." She said flipping the book around. The pages were all empty. "So what was the spell you learnt anyway?"
A good question.
I thought about everything I'd just read but non of it came to mind. It was like I read the words and they all vanished into a part of my mind that could only be accessed when I cast the spell itself.
Healing.
What?
The spell. It's a healing one.
Oh that's cool. But how is it useful? The land or you I guess already heals us?
Cannot heal non livestock. It also allows you to heal when you inevitably do something stupidly heroic... And the spider. You can heal her eye. Or I hope you can.
That's... Okay yeah that's quite helpful.
"So it's a healing spell, but if we want to test it I need to either leave the farm temporarily or we can ask Voras if she will allow me to heal her eye." I offered.
Voras flinched but didn't look in our direction still.
[I say we wait then. Give Voras some more time just waiting beside us. She has done so well I would hate for all that effort to be in vain.]
"I agree. I'm a little disappointed, I was expecting you to be able to fling fireballs or maybe control the ground. Not that healing is bad it's just... I don't know. A little mediocre." Zeldi pouted so adorably that I had to run my hand between her ears.
"Well the Deed specifically mentioned that it would be useful if I did anything stupidity heroic again." I offered as if it could change her perspective.
"Oh. Yeah it's extremely valuable then." Zeldi switched with a smile that fully expected me to do something 'stupidly heroic' in the near future.
I rolled my eyes as I scratched her ears. They were so soft.
"I'm not that bad am I?"
[You have died twice in a little over fifteen days my love.]
Point taken.
Zeldi cooed under her head pats before pulling back out of my reach. "Then if we're not testing that let's help Tarakona with her statue making. She did say it needed to be done soon before I get too big."
"You had my attention at statue making."
