Chapter 147. Teleportation
Abelha had been fine with me spending the night in her room so that I could read my new book. She had been rather excited, just fluttering around the space, and didn't mind the company. An odd habit of hers came to light as she began talking to herself like there was someone else here with us.
I had, of course, downed a good amount of Zeldi's milk before opening the book to make sure I wouldn't pass out halfway through before time stopped existing and I was already on the final page.
"I really don't think I'll ever get used to learning magic in this world," I mumbled to myself before almost jumping as Abelha was sitting down opposite me, just watching. My eyes immediately went to her nudity.
She picked up the discarded book without acknowledging my wandering gaze and began flipping through its pages. I let her as I got back to my feet, feeling the stiffness from sitting down for so long and... Other reasons.
"So what? Only one person can read from the book at a time. What next? It's just useless?" The Queen Bee questioned, flipping through all the pages, only finding them blank.
"I guess so," I said back, closing my eyes and letting the information on how to use my new power sink into my mind. "Everyone would have magic if a book could be read multiple times."
"I guess so. How are they made anyway?" Abelha grunted as she cast the book aside.
I shrugged, imagining myself teleporting a few feet ahead of where I currently was.The effect was instantaneous. There was barely any time to blink before I was exactly where I had imagined.
"Wow." I let out returning to my original position with a thought. "This is cool."
Abelha cocked her head to the side. "I can see its uses. How far can you go?"
"Let's find out," I said as excitement built so rapidly inside me that I almost couldn't contain it.Thoughts of where I could go flashed through my head, but one stood out the most. Madu's plateau. I'd promised I would return at some point to get her stuff and had been a bit lacking in the follow-through.Now though?
Now I could do it effortlessly. So long as I did have the range in this ability.I hadn't spent a lot of time there in the first place, but the location where Madu had shot us with her crossbow was firmly planted within my memory. A warning that this world wasn't all farming and beautiful women.
With that location so firmly in my mind, I closed my eyes and waited, while pulling on the new knowledge. The warmth of Abelha's room gave way to a chilly wind that had me smiling before I even opened my eyes. It had worked!
The sun just starting to brighten the horizon gave the entire sky an orange glow as wind bit into my exposed skin. I laughed. Alone in a place I had only visited once, sure, but I had done in an instant what the Deeds needed completed quests to do.
This opened so many possibilities.
Trade would be as easy as walking down the street, as I only needed to fill my inventory with what I was selling and go. Not even the Drow down in the Underdark was out of the question, as I was very interested in their vault that Ventress hinted at.
"Absolutely perfect," I said aloud. "Now I truly feel like I'm in a fantasy world."
Just ignore the Centaurs and Arachne woman, or the fact that the only humans I've seen were trying to kill me. But even then. Being able to wield teleportation with a thought was definitely up there. But even saying all that, I still needed to do what I actually came here to do... And that requires me knowing where Madu actually lived. It was fine to say around here, but actually finding it?
It took me over an hour. Most of that was trying to figure out what her home would actually look like, and while I could have quickly returned home to ask her, I wanted to surprise her by bringing all of her stuff back with me.
Fortunately. I got lucky when my foot fell through a hole in the ground that was covered in foliage. Like a trap door spiders. After clearing it all away, I was left with a sizable hole I could easily fit inside, though it would be snug. The thought of the Kobold holes around my property came to mind, and it was quite obvious why Voras had recommended using Madu in their extermination.
Would have to give her the ability to leave the farm for that as well... So many things still to do.
Ignoring all of the problems I would have to face when I returned, I set my sights back on the hole. I didn't suffer too badly from claustrophobia, but that didn't mean I was excited about sticking my head into a hole I was only mostly sure would have the width to accommodate me. The only thing keeping me going was the knowledge that I could teleport out if I got stuck.
"Okay. You can do this, Clovek. Just get in and get her stuff so that you can impress her." I rallied myself with that pep talk before diving into the hole quickly so that logic couldn't stop me.
I got further than I expected before the tunnel did a tight curve that you would need to be smaller to take properly. Or have a smaller tail. That didn't stop me for too long, as I started pushing myself forward using teleportation. This was a neat trick, as I couldn't use it if there was something in the way, but if I played a strange type of match the shape with my body, I could move enough each time. It wasn't fancy, and I was having to breathe out each time to take up as little space as possible, but it was working.
If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid. Well almost not stupid.
Eventually I came to an opening that I could fully teleport into and finally had some space to move.
Dusting myself off, I looked around what I guessed was Madu's previous room.It wasn't much. Just a bed made of various leaves and other soft things all piled together and a bench that seemed to have been carved into the stone wall.
That was until I turned around and saw where the light from the room was coming from. One side of the cave had been hollowed out completely and overlooked the desert that the plateau was built on top of. It was a bit surreal to watch the sunrise from here. Madu had either done well to find this or was one hell of a carver.
Shaking myself out of the surprise, I began putting everything of hers into my inventory that seemed to be of any value. Her bed I ignored, but the table and curtains she had hung to cover the rock faces I took, hoping she was going to be happy. When my inventory was full, I gave a satisfied nod. There was still more to pick up, but I could make another trip. This would be enough to hopefully excite Madu.
Giving one last look to memorize what was remaining, I tried to return to Abelha's room only to get blocked. I could picture the room just fine, but it felt like I was physically trying to shove myself against a brick wall every time I tried to teleport.I gave a humph in surprise before smiling.
"Seems the Deeds have some type of protection around the girls' rooms even if I have permission to enter," I said aloud, trying each of the other girls' rooms and having the same thing happen each time.
Good to know teleportation won't suddenly surprise them then, even if someone has their permission to enter.Changing my destination to the house, more specifically just on the outskirts of the pillow pile inside, I felt the familiar feeling of being pulled before being deposited into the location. So the house itself was still a good location even though the rooms weren't. Good to know.
"Master! Welcome." Zeldi called out from the kitchen as she had started cooking breakfast with Tarakona standing beside her in her Draconian form.
"Good morning, you two. Hey, any chance you guys know where Madu is? I figured out a way to retrieve her stuff and want to surprise her." I asked quickly, giving each of them a kiss.
[Perhaps I do, my love, if you would like to come with me?]
Tarakona seemed to hum with unbridled excitement for some reason.
"Sure." I nodded enthusiastically as Zeldi tried to hide a laugh as if I was missing an inside joke.
Tarakona cuddled up into my arm as she started to direct me outside.
"Master. Make sure you compliment how Tarakona looks." Zeldi called out as we passed, not suppressing her laughing this time.
I gave her a confused look as I passed by, but she didn't elaborate. Instead, she patted her equine half around where her belly was. Right over were our child was growing.
My eyes widened as two and two clicked together in my head, and I immediately changed my plans.Taking Tarakona by surprise, I scooped her up in my arms and pulled her rather aggressively into my chest. "Where is it? Or is it a he or a she? Can we even tell yet?"
Laughing at my antics, Tarakona lightly struggled in my grasp in a fake attempt to escape.
[It is fine, my love, but until it hatches, we have no idea what gender it will be.]
Releasing her to the ground, I pulled her into a tight hug. "Can we go see it?"
[Of course. I would never attempt to keep you away from our Hatching.]
