Chapter 122. Return
We spent the rest of our remaining time in town buying the gifts for the girls. After Voras had repaired my clothes of course.
We had left a not so anonymous tip to the guild before we left town as it wasn't hard to tell Voras had been the one to kill them... Most of them.
One painting set for Zeldi with what reminded me of watercolors. It was effectively a block of dry paint you mix with water to get the consistency and colour you wanted as well as four canvases. All packed into a crate so that my inventory thought it was a single item.
Tarakona's gift was a little harder to find but we eventually found a rock carving kit. Not the most exciting and not something she could use in her Dragon form but we both agreed that getting her a saddle was out of the question. If she didn't like it we would get something else tomorrow.
Voras took the lead on Madu's gift as I didn't know her well enough yet and she decided on some scale wax. When I'd asked her why Voras had responded by saying it's something she would use easily and would also be something she could ask me to help her with. As a get to know her more.
The twinkle in her eye told me a different story but I let it slide. If that's what she wanted to do then so be it.
We hadn't found a loom for Voras and had instead put in an order for one to be made and delivered to us. This had made it cost more but I was willing to pay it.
The entire time I had been a little distracted as I couldn't quite shake the face of the man I'd killed. Sure Voras had tried to take the kill but it didn't matter, it still haunted me.
I did however keep telling myself that because I was lamenting it ment I wasn't a killer with no morals but... It only works to some extent.
"It wasn't your fault you know." Voras tried to perk me up. It was still adorable watching her blushing from us holding hands even with her ladle in the other.
"I mean yeah I know but I keep thinking, what if we'd just ignored them and left? Kinda stupid I know and I will get over it but killing another human being is. Or should make someone second guess themselves." I responded trying to smile back at her. "And I don't hold anything against you Voras. You did everything I told you to, this is just something I need to get over."
"That still doesn't make it your fault. They tried to attack you."
"And I defended myself. I know Voras. Right now I just want to get home and cuddle, remind myself just what I'm doing all of this for. Then we can have a proper talk about what happened." I said giving her a pointed look to drop the subject. I needed some time to decompress and then I could figure out just where I stand.
Well that was easy enough to answer. I would do it again if any of my girls were threatened, without hesitation. The lamenting it would always come later.
As we came up to the farms boundary I was slightly surprised to see Madu waiting for us. That surprise vanished the moment she opened her mouth however.
"Master Clovek. Please I beg you, heal my eyes."
Ah yes. She had her quest that I'd done. A quick check told me she had accepted the reward so I saw no reason to refuse.
Voras let out a soft whimper when I let go of her hand to place them both around Madu's head but a wink in her direction seemed to settle that.
Like before I pulled apon the healing and it answered my command without delay. That didn't stop Madu's body from resisting the healing for a fair bit.
The wound is old. Old enough that her body has accepted not having eyes anymore. I will help you and... Thank you. For doing this.
Whatever the Deed did seemed to break through the resistance as I felt a tug on my core. One that seemed to pull from a lot deeper within. But before I could start to understand what was happening Madu opened her eyes and blinked at me.
"I can see." Sha gasped as her orange eyes opened and closed in rapid succession as if trying to understand the trick. They held the reptilian trait that Tarakona had. "I can see again!" This time she was louder and pulled me into a hug that used her whole tail to wrap around my legs. "Thank you thank you thank you."
I returned the hug leeching off her own happiness. Yeah, moments like this are why I do what I do.
Letting out one final squeal Madu pulled us away before giving me the first proper look. "Oh damn. I knew you felt ripped but this is a whole different story. Does your workout include lifting Zeldi each day and can I be part of it?"
She followed this up by poking my arm. I couldn't help but flex. Just a little bit. "Definitely real. Hey Voras it's good to see you again and I whole heartedly agree with your choice in men. That said I am rather grumpy you took so long to come get me."
"Not that I needed your acceptance but thank you. I do agree Clovek is a prime specimen in both mind and body." Voras hummed trying to recover from her whimper.
"Awww shucks guys. Anyway Madu. We got you a gift from town." I said diverting the conversation away from complements. They were nice but I didn't want to turn into a blushing bride, that was Voras's job.
"A gift? But you gave me my eyes back. I don't need anything else." Madu gasped but her snakes had other plans as one of them licked the side of my cheek in a soft kiss. "Shiver! No. Bad snake."
"It's fine." I chuckled pulling out the scale wax. "It's kinda cute that their honest."
"Franchement, j'ai envie de te faire l'amour toute la nuit." (I honestly want to breed you all night)
"Language or no gift." I chastised only for Madu to roll her eyes.
"I said. I honestly want to breed you all night. Since you asked so nicely." Madu said with the most innocent smile, with the addition of puppy dog eyes.
"Yeah that one's on me." I laughed to myself. "Really should have seen that coming."
"Tu peux me regarder jouir quand tu veux." (You can watch me cum whenever you want.)
"Nope not asking this time Miss Danger Noodle. Here we got you some scale wax. Thought it might be nice, or Voras did as I didn't know what you like."
Her grin turned into surprise as she took the jar from me with delicate movements.
"Scale wax. Gods I haven't had anything like this in years." Her eyes darted to Voras who gave a nod. "And would I be able to ask you to help me apply it?" I could hear the slight waver in her voice.
"That's a question for Zeldi I'm afraid. I would personally love to as I enjoy feeling the differences you girls have but.."
"You don't want to overstep your boundaries. I know." Madu let out a sigh. "Then again if you were that easy I'd have gotten you in bed by now."
"Silver lining." I agreed. "Well we can go find Zeldi now she's due for a milking anyway. Did anything interesting happen on the farm while I was gone?"
This time Madu let out a laugh.
"Oh you are going to absolutely love the changes Dríade has done to her room and Zeldi is resting." Madu said before letting out a wince that told me there was more to Zeldi's 'resting'.
"Madu?" I asked with a slight growl. Zeldi couldn't be harmed on the farm so why the hesitation?
"Zeldi just had a fall we believe was due to early malnutrition." Madu answered then winced again.
Malnutrition? How? We've been eating a lot of those oats and... She's pregnant. Of course. She needs more than oats.
"Dumbass." I cursed myself. I should have known. Of course I should have known.
That doesn't change anything now though. What can I do?
The light from the sun reflected off the automatic butcher and I had my answer. Zeldi's family had eaten meat during our visit so it wasn't like she couldn't have it. I just had to make sure it was cooked well, that should diversity her diet in the short term. If I needed more I could just go back to town later. Bloody idiot not thinking of that.
"How long ago did she fall?" I asked trying to keep my voice level as I made my way over to the automatic butcher.
I only had one space free in my inventory but I rectified that by taking the remaining gold coin out and gathering two slabs of meat. It would be a lot for her but at this point I was going to force her to eat it if it was good for her health.
"Not long after you left. She's fine now Clovek you don't need to worry."
"Madu my job is to worry, and that doesn't matter if my job description is Farmer or Husband because either way I should worry about something like this."
Especially if i could have prevented it.
Tarakona was lying by the house looking through the window hopefully having a conversation with Zeldi.
Damn I really screwed this up.
