Chapter 119. Market
I took Voras's hand again only for her to lose all the confidence she had gained and resort back to a blushing bride.
It was cute and I did want to tease her.
"Well then milady. Shall we be on our way?" I gave an exaggerated bow before placing a kiss on the hand I was holding.
Voras's eyes gained that hooded look that Zeldi seemed to perpetually have during her milking sessions but she could only nod at my question.
I hadn't looked to closely at her outfit until now as she had donned her typical rainbow abdomen covering and a black skin tight top that was still thick enough not to be able to see under it. And when I say skin tight that's only because Voras had about three layers underneath all in different colours to protect herself from different things.
I should really get her to make a list of every colour she can put into her silk and what resistance that gives. Later though. Right now is her date time.
The markets weren't that hard to find as even before we got there we could hear merchants hawking their wears. Voras still stood out like a sore thumb but it at least gave us some space to maneuver.
"So since you can make your own clothes and really anything like that for us is there something you would like as a gift?" I asked Voras while trying to think of something for each of my girls.
I needed seeds and maybe a few small shrubs but after I had those I was definitely getting something for each of them. The only problem is what to get.
Zeldi was easy to buy for. She would appreciate anything so long as it had some thought behind it and I wanted to get her something related to painting. It may seem simple but apart from our milking sessions and cooking she doesn't have a lot else she can do.
If she had the ability to paint it would give her something to do during the days especially as she became heavier from her pregnancy as painting wouldn't require a lot of movement. It would also allow her to scratch that itch for art she's had ever since she got the dress from the Drow.
Tarakona was a lot harder. She hadn't liked having her nails done so anything make-up related was out of the question as well as jewelry. She didn't spend enough time as a Draganoid for that to be worth it. So what would a Dragon want as a gift? Perhaps a giant stuffed toy?
"A gift?" Voras asked bringing a finger to her lips. "If we have enough money I would like to purchase a weaving loom if that is okay."
"Oh?" I was a bit confused at her choice. She could weave perfectly as it was now, why would she want anything else?
"It would allow me to incorporate different designs and actually create pictures as opposed to just weaving different colours into my creations. My current method without tools only allows me to make something out of one colour or make stripes in something. A loom would just make things easier for me." Voras elaborated.
"Oh that makes sense." I hummed my agreement. "Can you use one made for humanoids or do you need a specialty made one?"
At this point we had arrived at the market and had joined the crowds moving through them. It reminded me of a convention of sorts with stalls placed on either side trying to get your attention. Though with far less people.
"A humanoid one will do. While getting one custom built would be amazing I don't think it's that important." Voras shook her head.
Well then. I know what I'm going to be requesting from a carpenter for the future.
I mean Zeldi still has the dress made by the Drow with her depiction of being a mother. It wouldn't be hard to pursued her that it was a valuable use of our funds.
"Then keep your eyes open for someone selling them. I doubt what I want is going to cost anything more than a single gold coin so we have money to spare. Do look for something for Tarakona as well. No sense forgetting about the others as I already have an idea of what I want for Zeldi." I said with a nod.
"And Madu." Voras hesitantly added. "She deserves something and I know she's not quite part of your family yet I have no doubts she will try everything she can to get into it."
"I have no problem with that. Do we need to include Dríade as well?"
"No. She doesn't like anything that's not natural. She will probably try to propagate any of the plants you buy however so that should be enough." Voras said with a humorous laugh. "Giving her a gift would be absolutely hilarious to watch as I think she would be expecting you to ask for something in return."
Her attention was instantly taken by something in one of the stalls as we passed so I turned us towards it. It was a bit surprising to find a kind looking old Catkin man selling kitchen wear as the source of her distraction.
"Welcome dear friends. See anything you like?" The man asked from underneath his hair. I couldn't quite figure out if it was ment to be a really bushy beard or if this was something all Catkin look like when they let their fur grow.
"Yes." Voras answered picking up a ladle.
It was made out of wood and had some very detailed engravings of something I couldn't make out because Voras was holding it so close to her own eyes.
"Ahhh. That was one of my finest pieces. Took me ages to get all the details just right." The man expressed glad to have Voras's attention.
I ran my gaze over a few of the other pieces but couldn't really see a need for them. Zeldis family had given us what we wanted when we left regarding kitchen wear so I didn't think we needed it.
Voras seemed to disagree. "How much for it?"
"Only a single silver coin my dear. It does come with a set for five if you would like." The man replied.
With thirteen gold coins we had more than enough for them and from the way Voras kept looking at it she must have really wanted it.
"We'll take the set." I jumped it holding a gold coin. "So long as you have change."
The man's eyes widened at the coin but he only nodded and began to fumble with a box underneath himself.
"You don't have to Clovek." Voras whispered but if she wanted me to believe her she shouldn't be holding the ladle to her chest.
"It's fine. I think it will be a good decoration piece." I replied with a shrug.
I wanted to ask why it seemed to be important to her but I could do that later. Right now I just wanted to enjoy the way whe was smiling and if a piece of wood was all it took to do that then who was I to argue?
"There we go sir. Ninety five silver coins." The Catkin man said with the coins separated into piles of ten so it was easy to see. He had also placed a bowl and cutlery with similar designs beside it as the set.
I suddenly found a problem. My pants didn't have pockets.
Thankfully Voras had made her own clothing with pockets so she became the one carrying our money. Or most of it. I still kept five gold in my inventory for safe keeping.
So with a polite goodbye we left the stall and began looking for everything else we needed.
Voras refused to let go of the ladle but didn't seem that interested in the rest of the set. Again I didn't understand but for now I didn't care.
Seeds were our new goal and was remarkably uninteresting. The stall selling them was more than happy to give me his entire supply and even packed them into three crates himself. I might have overpaid him with the offer of three gold but I had all the basics for creating a farm now and I didn't need to carry them around because the crates were all considered one item each for my inventory.
"I think for a loom we may have to visit a specialty store." Voras said after we'd reached the end of the market. "While I've seen a lot of fabric creations the actual device will not be found here."
There were a few items I'd seen in passing that I thought the other girls may like but I was also interested in seeing the other parts of town as well. If I didn't find anything over there I could always come back here.
"Do you know where one would be?" I asked watching her use the ladle to point down one of the side streets.
"That would be my best guess as it's more of the artisans district. If not we can ask around."
I was fine with a bit of sightseeing.
"Do you have enough time if we don't find anything?" My question was aimed at her four hours of being away from the farm.
"Just over two hours left. If we don't we can always come back tomorrow right?"
She wasn't wrong there.
"Then let's go."
