Chapter 105. Learning the language
"I hope that's a good thing."
I didn't know what else to say.
"It's definitely not a bad thing." Madu hummed giving me one last squeeze with her tail before releasing me. "But it is an interesting thought process. Still leaves a bunch of questions like why anyone looking to become a demigod or something doesn't go through the Deeds."
"Not fast enough." I replied as I couldn't help myself and ran my hands over her scaled tail. "I mean I have no real control over whether the Deeds give me as their quest rewards and most of what I've been given would be considered pathetic if I wanted to become a Demon Lord. Sure the inventory is nice and all that but a lot of what I have is useless outside of the farm. Not really going to pillage the country side with the ability to see what my Livestocks quests are now am I?"
"That is an interesting prospect." Madu hummed.
We resumed our walk towards the hole Tarakona had dug only this time Madu took the lead having somehow figured out I kept looking at her tail as she moved.
"But it would still be a big boon if someone like a Demon Lord was the owner of a Deed right?" Madu questioned.
"I thought about that but not really." I answered.
This was a subject I had thought of in my spare time as I was trying to think of all the people that would threaten Zeldi and I in a fantasy world. Of course some type of Demon Lord would be at the top.
"For them to get any real benefits they would have to have at least one Livestock so that they could be resurrected, but someone else would be looking after them." I continued trying to put my anime logic into this a little bit.
"Like if a Demon Lord spent most of their time farming and not trying to take over the world they wouldn't really be a Demon Lord, but if they were doing Demon Lord things then someone else would be looking after their Livestock. The Deed wouldn't really benefit from that arrangement and a single Livestock is not going to care much about someone they don't see now are they?"
"Could still work." Madu said as her hand came to her chin. "Like if the Livestock believed in the Demon Lord and wanted the world to kneel before them. If that were the case she would bring him back each time."
Wouldn't work. Livestock choose if you get resurrected but the Deeds still need to offer the essence from the Leyline to complete the ritual. I personally wouldn't bring back an owner that wasn't contributing towards my own growth. Much better to try on someone new.
"My Deed just said it has the final say on if someone comes back." I relayed to Madu.
"Hmmmm. I guess I never really asked my old Deed what the requirements for all that were. Then again it's not very good at communicating."
We both got a chuckle out of that.
The hole came up and I was happy to see it hadn't caved in on any of the sides. In fact the whole thing looked like it had been baked in clay. It wasn't perfect by any means but if the other option was it being broken on any of the sides I'll take this.
Madu didn't stop at the edge like I thought she might and instead lowered herself down to the bottom using her tail as a counter weight.
"It's not bad but it will definitely require something to be put on the bottom." She called back up.
I jumped down beside her.
"Like some wood or somethin" I asked having realized I knew very little about what else was needed.
"Yes but I'd put some stones down first. You will need a buffer of some sort to slow down how quickly the wood rots." Madu replied tapping sections with her tail.
Man I really wish I knew how to make cement right now. That would be an easy solution. I'm pretty sure it's something like lime and sea shells? Could probably figure it out with some testing unless you could tell me how to make it Deed?
I would if I knew myself.
There goes that idea.
"Well this was going to be a basement of sorts for that." I said pointing at the almost buried automatic butcher before I could stop myself.
Madu just rolled her entire head at me but didn't say anything. Instead she used her tail like a springboard and jumped up out of the hole like it was nothing.
Part of her tail remained down her with me and I realized she was offering it as a way to help me up. I took the offer and Madu took the opportunity to feel me up the entire time. She did keep it all above the belt however.
"Tu es vraiment imposant, Maître Clovek." (You are very large Master Clovek)
I booped her on the nose as I came close enough. "Speak so I can understand you remember?"
She touched her nose like I'd left something behind before trying to glare at me. "That's no fun. I like flirting with you when you can't understand it."
"Why though? It's not like I will ever respond to it." I said curious.
"Tu n'as pas besoin de répondre, j'aime simplement t'offrir mon corps, même si tu ne comprends pas." (You don't need to respond, I just like offering you my body even though you don't understand)
I shook my head and went over to the automatic butcher to collect its meat while I tried to figure out what she had said.
It was beyond obvious she was saying something sexual and there were a few words she was repeating that I really wanted to know what they meant.
"Any chance you are going to teach me any of your language?"
Madu hummed to herself before responding. "If you could pick one word what would you like to know?"
I stopped for a second to think about it before pulling all the meat out of the automatic butcher. My inventory was full and couldn't quite hold two of the steaks but Madu was more than happy to take them off my hands and eat them raw. It was quite adorable watching her pick smaller parts off to feed her snakes.
"Mon corps." I replied as she was eating. "That's probably what I would like to know the most. You've said it a few times though my memory doesn't have any real correlation to pull from."
"That's two words Clovek. Mon and corps. Pick one and I will translate it for you." She grinned back cheekily.
She was grinning like a fox as she licked the dregs of blood from around her mouth. She was enjoying this too much.
Instead of answering I took one last look at the hole to make sure it was all secure before walking towards the old entrance to the farm. It seemed so long ago when I'd had to clean everything up.
"Corps." I finally said. "What does that word mean?"
"Body." Madu replied as if she were singing.
"So Master something something body?" I shook my head as I tried to play Scrabble with only half he pieces.
"Maître de mon corps." (Master of my body) Madu repeated knowing full well ment nothing to me.
"And you're not going to give me any clues as to what the other words are?" I pushed hoping but not really expecting anything.
"Non! Bon, si tu arrives à tenir plus longtemps que moi cette nuit, je le ferai peut-être." (No! Well, if you manage to last longer than me tonight, maybe I will do it)
"Non means no." I put together. Not that it really helped me.
"Oui." (Yes) Madu hummed. "I will teach you in time but I do like to keep a little of myself a secret from you for now."
"Still going to deny whatever you say in French unless you translate it for me." I reminded her as I stepped passed the fence line.
The original boundary for my farm had ended here but now it was much bigger. Tarakona would probably hate if I left the property but so long as I stayed within the boundary of the land I should be fine.
"Tu me rejetterais si je te disais que tu peux me dévorer à ta guise? Juste parce que je ne l'ai pas dit clairement?" (Would you reject me if I told you that you can devour me as you please? Just because I didn't say it clearly?) Madu gave a fake sigh at the end of her sentence that was completely ruined by the giggling fit she fell into soon after.
"Still going to reject it." I returned clearly before putting my own dramatic spin. "If only the cute Gorgon would actually speak words I could understand. We could then grow closer together, but alas. This language is a barrier we have yet to overcome. One that will divide us for eons to come."
My old drama teacher might have given me a pass for that performance.
Madu however was cutely glaring at me. "That's not fair."
I snickered and turned around to look at her but continued to walk. "Says the girl that doesn't want me to understand her."
"But you said I'm cute. You can't just call me cute and not want me to bury certain parts of you in me." She grumbled.
"Well if that's the..." I tripped as the ground vanished underneath my foot. The back of my head making solid contact with the ground as my ass was pulled into the hole. "Fuck!"
For once Madu didn't make a joke and instead whipped her body so quickly it was a blur. I found myself pulled off the ground and smothered in scales as she hissed at some non-existent threat.
What I could see through the gaps was a hole going deep into the ground that looked to have been carved by small claws.
"Easy Madu, there's nothing there." I said trying to pacify her.
"Then what happened?"
"Kobold hole." I responded. "They've been a problem for a while now."
