The morning after Christmas, Lucifer and Hermione were up early, though by a different standard than brutal schedule of the Hogwarts dormitories. It was enough to be awake before the adults, roughly an hour later than the routine bell they would usually answer for morning classes.
They had successfully managed to stay in contact with Harry and Ron over the holiday, which had been no easy feat. Ensuring that Mark didn't catch sight of post-owl soaring down through the Muggle neighborhood to deliver a gold-sealed letter required a great deal of careful timing, but they had managed the security well enough.
In his latest reply, Harry had explicitly mentioned that Weasleys were all currently staying packed inside 'Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place,' as the warded Order headquarters was closer to St. Mungo's Hospital than the Burrow.
"I'll ask Mum during breakfast if it's okay for us to pack our bags and go stay with our friends for remainder of the winter break," Hermione murmured, her fingers smoothing her hair as she offered a brief nod. "I don't think she'll have problem with the adjustment, to be honest."
"No, I don't think she will object either," Lucifer replied, his fingers tracing the white-gold sapphire chain under his collar, “Arthur seems to be doing fine according to the reports, but from the way Potter describes scenario, he doesn't seem to take his physical injuries seriously.”
"You mean like you don't take your own?" Hermione asked him, her eyebrow raising sharply.
"There is a difference between Arthur Weasley's biology and my own, pet," Lucifer shot back, his brows narrowing slightly in a silent reprimand.
"And what would that be, Daddy?" She teased, a soft, beautiful grin playing on her lips as her eyes focused his jawline.
Before he could reply, Jane Granger stepped through kitchen door into the dining room where both teenagers had taken up temporary residence for the morning, she looked flushed, hearing the word her daughter called Lucifer with, "Well, look at you two up so early on Boxing Day. Not that I am surprised by the routine.”
"Mum, is it alright if Lucifer and I go to stay over with Harry and Ron's family for the holidays?” Hermione asked, voice soft as she desperately hoped her mother wouldn't feel emotionally offended or pushed aside by the sudden exit.
"Well, I certainly don't, but may I ask why the plans shifted so suddenly?" Jane asked, walking straight past their chairs toward the refrigerator to begin fixing breakfast. Truth be told to her own thoughts, she was 'not excited' about the prospect of spending remaining holiday weeks completely alone inside the house with her boastful boyfriend Mark.
"Weasley's father, Arthur, he got hurt on duty," Lucifer interjected, slicing through the room. The detail caused Jane to stop her movements, shoulders visibly tensing as she turned her face to look at him, "It is nothing fatal or lifethreatening, Jane, but requires him to stay confined inside a hospital ward for entirety of the break as a result of lacerations," he added, knowing very well that honesty was the best policy to secure her parental consent.
Jane stood in a quiet, analytical thought for a few long moments, her eyes racking their faces. "Alright... you two have my permission to go and stay with the family. Where am I dropping your trunks off, Hermione? The usual London alleyway place?"
"Yeah, the Leaky Cauldron entrance will be fine, Mum, thank you so much," Hermione said, instantly getting up from her wooden seat to walk over to her mother's side, engulfing her in a tight affectionate embrace.
"Of course, my beautiful pumpkin,” Jane smiled warmly, returning the deep squeeze as her fingers stroked her daughter's curls, "Well, do you both want to eat hot breakfast here before you go out into gales, or get something once you arrive there?”
"We can eat breakfast here before we depart, if that's not too much trouble for your morning, Jane?" Lucifer asked politely, carrying a formal chivalry. In objective reality, he just wanted his girlfriend to prioritize her family's presence, rather than continuously treating the Muggle world like a daze; treating her mother's kitchen like a common hotel stop felt insulting to her.
"Oh, don't be silly, Lucifer. Of course it's not trouble," Jane smiled appreciatively at him, feeling genuinely glad that her daughter had successfully secured such a well mannered, thoughtful boy for her future.
She fixed the two teenagers a breakfast, then marched into hallway to inform Mark that she was dropping the girl and Lucifer off at their boarding school friends' residence for remainder of the Christmas break, he thankfully didn't find the nerve to question.

Hermione spent the next hour efficiently packing every text and robe back into her school luggage. Lucifer casually stepped out onto the snowy patio, giving his hand a subtle wave to send Rowena flying ahead on an independent wing-route to Grimmauld Place.
Jane drove the car down frosty London streets, dropping both off right outside the unassuming brick entrance of Leaky Cauldron. After offering a lingering hug to both, she wished them well for their exams, turned the wheel, and drove off into the traffic.
A distinct sad trace of loneliness was written across her face, expression that neither teenager missed, though speed of city almost made them skip the detail.
"Well, shit... I honestly feel rather bad leaving her like that now...” Lucifer muttered under his breath, watching the car vanish past the junction.
"She understands the severity of the situation, Lucifer. Otherwise, Mum wouldn't have agreed," Hermione whispered softly, looking up into her boyfriend's face with a comforting moan, “I can easily talk to her over the compact mirrors every night even at Hogwarts, so don't worry... But before we go to Grimmauld Place, how about we walk down the lane and get my ears pierced? That way, I can start wearing those earrings you bought without relying on a temporary Makeup charm...”
"Okay, that sounds like a good plan," Lucifer chuckled softly, his eyes onto her left hand, "Do you know where we can get that done safely?”
"I do, actually. There's a beauty salon located not too far from this street corner that will do," Hermione said, standing proudly to her full height as she smoothed her coat for the war.
That posture made him look down at her growing feminine figure.
Hermione, hoping, he wouldn't start treating her like a spoiled girl simply because of the jewelry's cost, "And since I am legally of a good age under Muggle health guidelines, I won't require my parents' physical permission slip to sign the forms.”
“...Good. It was probably best to keep the blood jewelry out of your grandfather's sight anyway, but it's nice to know agency didn't require their word regardless," he said dryly, adjusting to her game like way of speech, and the couple walked hand-in-hand down the pavement toward the commercial block.
Because it was still early on 'Boxing Day' morning, there weren't that many customers waiting inside the building. A young, physically attractive lady dressed in a sleek apron was sitting casually behind the front counter. "Welcome to 'Antoinette's Beauty Salon,' luv! I'm Tris—"
She abruptly stopped her rehearsed script when registered Lucifer's towering height and jaw-dropping, handsome features. Her face seemed to turn enthralled, her breath stalling for a beat before she recovered her professional composure, shifting to focus entirely on him.
“I'm Trisha, handsome. What can I assist your day with today?” She asked, her voice dropping into a sultry, sing-song lilt meant for the boy's ears.
"I am here to see about getting my ears pierced today," Hermione said with a sudden, forceful edge to her voice, stepping right into the woman's line of sight. Her eyes narrowed into an icy glare that screamed territorial dominance, “My boyfriend here recently got me a pair of premium earrings that I cannot wear without utilizing Charms... So, I wanted to pierce both of my lobes right now," She stated firmly, making certain to drop the word 'boyfriend' like a lead weight to indicate he was off-limits to her advances.
Lest she was treated as a little sister.
"Oh... got a bit ahead of yourself with the jewelry gifts, did you?" Trisha asked, slightly taken aback and thoroughly checked by the young girl’s dirty growl.
Lucifer merely offered a sheepish, amused nod of his head on her behalf to keep the peace.
"Well, it's not a problem, luv. I can easily work you into the vacant chair right away and get sorted out so you two can enjoy the rest of Boxing Day," Trisha said, reaching for a sealed tray of sterile needles.
Hermione offered a victorious smile, and Trisha guided her body into a leather chair in front of a wide mirror. Lucifer stood calmly off to the side of the counter, leaning against the wall as his eyes idly analyzed the various hair products and layouts of the salon.
Through reflection of the glass, she saw the woman approach her lobes, her gloved fingers setting the tools at the ready. The bushy-haired girl braced her shoulders for the sudden wave of physical pain that would undoubtedly be present from an iron needle puncturing straight through her earlobe.
The moment Trisha snapped the mechanism to give her the first hole, Hermione let out a sharp pitched wince of agony, her fingers digging into the armrests, “Bloody hell... that hurt worse than I expected it to...”
"Well, I've still got one more ear to hole, luv. Unless you decided you just want to parade around London with one side pierced?" Trisha asked with a sarcastic raise of her eyebrow, giving the girl no subtlety after being looked at like she was some common Knockturn Alley two-knuts whore earlier.
"No. My boyfriend purchased 'two identical earrings for me," Hermione snapped back through her teeth, bracing her feet against the marble floor. "I require the other ear done too..."
"Hold still then," Trisha walked slowly around to right side of the chair and followed the same puncture into the whimpering girl's other lobe.
Hermione let out another sharp cry of pain, eyes watering slightly, but she otherwise handled the blood perfectly. When all was said and done, and she was sitting up with her temporary silver studs resting cleanly against her skin, Trisha began cleaning the tray, explaining recovery protocols , “---and these studs have to stay locked in those lobes for six to eight weeks, okay, luv? Make sure you clean the skin with solution at least twice a day to avoid an infection. That will be £30 for the service. And just so we're clear, honey, I don’t take those weird Goblin coins.”
Without hesitation or care for her small jab, Lucifer reached into his wallet, pulled out three crisp £10 notes, and handed the currency straight over to Trisha's fingers. The woman took the cash, fanning the notes against her face and literally smelling the clean paper as she did so with a look of satisfaction.
"Lucifer? What are you doing paying for this?" Hermione asked, blinking as she adjusted her coat.
"Paying the salon clerk for your holes, pet. What else does it like?" he asked back with a soft chuckle.
"He is a lifelong keeper, dear," Trisha told Hermione, sliding the notes safely into her drawer with an orgasmic expression, "My own man at home? The bloke is never quick to pay for a thing. Not that I would ever ask him to do so, of course, but the slacker never was quick about offering either," She said, turning her face to look straight at the brown-haired girl, "Don't you ever let go of him for anything, honey. A true, wealthy gentleman like him is incredibly hard to find on these streets...”
"I definitely won't ever let him go," Hermione said fiercely, her eyes shifting to look straight up into Lucifer's face, heart singing, “I am never letting him leave my side. So... how do they look?"
"Even better when they've got those rubies I bought resting inside them," Lucifer chuckled, reaching down to grab her bags.
"They will," She smiled sweetly, turning back over her shoulder to offer a polite wave to the clerk as they reached the exit, “Have a wonderful day, Miss Trisha!”

The two fifth-years walked out of the beauty salon and retraced their steps down the pavement back toward brick entrance of the Leaky Cauldron.
"Do you think main fireplace network inside the bar is still safely connected to the Floo lines of 'Grimmauld Place?" Lucifer asked, his eyes scanning the rooftops for any Ministry surveillance.
"If the connection is active... do you think it's safe to use right now?” Hermione asked back, her brow furrowing.
"With that pink toad Umbridge keeping an eye on every fireplace in the country, probably not," Lucifer sighed heavily, shifting the weight of her trunks.
"Are you going to use your magic to fly us across London there then?" Hermione asked curiously, but he didn't offer her an immediate answer.
He stopped his boots dead on the threshold of pub, eyes narrowing for a split second as his senses locked onto a couple of magical auras vibrating inside the room, “Hmm... look at that, pet. Someone is waiting for me right now. Let's go straight back inside Leaky Cauldron.”
“Eh... how do you know that without drawing your wand?” She asked, blinking in confusion.
They pushed the wooden doors open, stepping straight into dim, shadowy interior of the Leaky Cauldron bar. Sitting quietly at a large corner table, casually eating a grand breakfast, was an unexpected gathering: Neville Longbottom and his formidable grandmother, Augusta, sitting right alongside Susan Bones and Madam Amelia Bones herself.
The sudden sight of Ministry family was quite thoroughly surprising to both of the teenage arrivals.

“Madam Bones?" Lucifer said, getting her attention.
"Oh, Lucifer, how wonderful and fortunate that I found you so quickly!" Amelia stood up immediately from the table with a sharp thud. "Excuse me a moment," She said to her niece, Neville, and his grandmother, Augusta, who gave the boy a brief greeting nod.
"You were looking for me?" Lucifer asked, his eyes registering the Longbottoms as he nodded back with a polite level gesture.
"Oh, of course I was. I talked to Cornelius about reinstating your Adult Wizarding Status, and he agreed to it almost too quickly," Amelia said, pulling a gold-sealed parchment document from her leather robes stating that Fudge had officially put his legal status back in place.
Lucifer could hardly believe the paranoid Minister had actually gone through with the paperwork. "Seriously? He actually signed it?" He was still thoroughly unbelieving of the parchment she handed him.
"He did indeed. You are now legally able to use magic again outside of Hogwarts, so long as you don't risk breaking the 'Statute of Secrecy," She said, a warm smile softening her sharp features.
"Thank you, Madam Bones," Lucifer said, looking up from the document, “Truly, thank you. Please take this as a small token of my gratitude,” he added smoothly, reaching deep into his pouch to pull out a pristine piece of alchemical engineering he had created back in the past timeline, the 'Guardian necklace' and handed the silver chain over to her.
At her curious gaze, he calmly explained the magical wonders of what it did. The moment dark silver necklace detected that wearer's life was in critical danger, such as during a lethal ambush or a fatal spell attack, it triggered a powerful, automated space-teleportation enchantment that instantly transported the wearer away to a secure location: the state-of-the-art medical wing inside his own penthouse at Lux.
It acted as a life-saving shield. The passive automatic escape mechanism ensured that even if the wizard was incapacitated, stunned, or cornered inside an area warded against standard 'Apparition', they were cleanly warped to safety before a finishing blow could ever land.
Since the gift was coming from Lucifer, whose terrifying display of power she had witnessed firsthand, she didn't doubt credibility of the magical equipment. However, she found it very hard to accept such an invaluable, legendary item.
Lucifer was forceful, though, and she begrudgingly wore the silver chain around her neck, looking mad when he flatly stated it was a one-of-a-kind prototype that would not be mass produced for her 'Department of Magical Law Enforcement,' like she had wanted on the spot.
She cursed Fudge' and his secretary Umbridge's entire 'family' line to the grave for creating hostility.
“Still, Lucifer, I don't feel like I could afford this.... but, well, consider it even,” Amelia said, clearing her throat as she turned back to the breakfast table she had gotten up from. "Susan tells me you are helping her and a few others with practical spells, is that true?”
"Yes, it is," Lucifer said, smiling politely at Susan, who offered a small wave from her bench, "I'm happy to help the students train.”
"Neville said you've also read every 'Grade Book of Spells' in the library?" Amelia inquired, her monocle catching the dim tavern light.
"Yes, I finished the Grade 7 last year," he responded. It felt a bit like he was being subjected to interrogation, but only mildly so, she was so eerily similar to his own wife, Amelia Bones, except the face.
"Wow, that is just incredible for a fifth-year, but Harry is also quite adept at his practical spellcasting too from what I hear from Aurors," She said, sitting back down on the bench.
"He did get the second highest score in our third-year 'Defense Against the Dark Arts' examination, and wouldn't have survived the Tournament tasks last June if he wasn't," Lucifer said, turning his body to acknowledge the other three sitting at the table for good measure. "Hey Neville, Susan. Good morning, Mrs. Longbottom." He figured he should use their proper names by now.
"Did you not bother to tell her either, Neville?" The old lady asked her grandson sharply, dissatisfaction breaking across her face as her vulture hat wobbled.
"Tell us what?" Hermione asked curiously, her eyes widening at the older woman's large handbag, realizing in an instant why the poor boy was always so cowardly, quiet, and shivering whenever Gryffindor tower talked about his grandmother.
"About his parents, Miss Granger," Augusta stated firmly, looking straight at the bushy-haired girl while adjusting her gloves, turning face to provide the proud history herself.
At the mention of the tragedy, Lucifer didn't offer any physical reaction, because he had been secretly treating Neville's incapacitated parents inside the closed wards of St. Mungo's over this past year without the boy ever knowing. However, the mention led his clever girlfriend to notice oddity in his posture, her eyes narrowing as she questioned whether he already knew the secret.
"Yes, I know," Lucifer said, surprising both Neville and Hermione simultaneously.
"How... how did you?" Neville asked him in a tight whisper, lowering his face a bit as shame hit his chest because he lacked the bravery to share the secret with his own dormitory roommate.
“My first hint was back during our fourth year, inside the impersonated Moody’s classroom when the bloke was teaching our year about the three 'Unforgivable Curses," Lucifer said, laying out the timeline of his deductions, "Later, when Draco Malfoy was loudly insulting Harry right before the first task, the idiot stated that Potter belonged in a private ward at St. Mungo's. I happened to see your eyes at that second, Neville--they flickered with a burning anger. The reason you would have reacted with such hostility to a hospital jibe is if someone close to you was inside St. Mungo's, and.... who else but your own parents would you react that way for?" He explained, impressing Amelia Bones with his exceptional deductive skills.
"Have you ever seriously thought about pursuing career as an Auror after graduation, Lucifer?" she asked him right then and there, aggressively seeking to poach the brilliant youth for her department.
Putting aside his famous Dueling skills, the mere fact that he had independently engineered that Guardian necklace proved that if he was supplied with proper materials by her office, he would be more than helpful in their upcoming battle against Voldemort.
"No," Lucifer declined gently, but his handsome face was very serious as his eyes locked onto hers, "I already manage a specific job where my presence is desperately needed. I am just enjoying my school holidays, that's all... I will go back to my domain after this whole Voldemort business is over.”
"Oh, that is a shame, the Auror Department would greatly benefit from having your power in its ranks," Amelia praised him warmly, not even showing a trace of surprise at his casual usage of the Dark Lord's actual name. "You might have even made Head Auror by the age of eighteen given your capabilities.”
"Aunt Amelia, please stop," Susan whispered, her face burning with a second-hand embarrassment.
"Oh, don't be silly, Susie, there's nothing to be flustered about," Amelia chuckled, a rare laugh escaping through her lips. It was entirely odd to both Hermione and even Lucifer's eyes to see Madam Bones laugh so freely, given how stone-cold her demeanor had been inside the Ministry courtroom.
