Chapter 220: Director Hana Lee!
Chapter 220: Director Hana Lee!
I woke up early in the morning, shifting beneath the heavy sheets as the morning light began to filter into the bedroom. Hana and Kim were tangled up right alongside me, their soft breathing filling the quiet room.
Kim had worked as a nurse at the hospital before our lives became completely chaotic, which meant she made it a strict point to attend the Star General Ball every single year without fail. She was the primary reason I was even awake right now, considering she always went entirely out of her way to drag me along to these stiff formal events, especially during the years I desperately tried to invent elaborate excuses to escape the venue entirely.
Kim leaned her upper body over my chest, her warm breath brushing against my skin as she began planting soft, lingering kisses along the curve of my shoulders. Hana watched the display from the opposite side of the mattress, a look of pure amusement gleaming in her eyes as she propped her chin up on her hand. She nudged her friend's side with a quiet laugh to break the silence. "Sigh, Kim dear, why are you doing that to Rick?"
The sudden question brought Kim right out of her trance, causing her to blink rapidly as she looked up from my bare chest. She kept her arms wrapped tightly around me, treating my body like a giant pillow to hug while she trailed her fingers thoughtfully over my collarbone. "Hana, I can't put my finger on it, but Rick's skin feels better to kiss than normal. Lately, it is like he has been going to the spa with us? Rick honey, have you been secretly getting spa treatments?"
Kim locked her vibrant green eyes onto mine with total certainty, waiting for me to crack under her deduction. Her sharp observation reminded me that Kate had also pointed out a strange difference in my physical appearance just a few days ago.
I laid there wondering why my completely clueless, airhead wives were always the very first ones to notice the literal changes in my body, while all of my supposedly sharper wives just blew it off as nothing more than a trick of the light. I let a slow smile spread across my face as I decided to partially admit to the truth. "My wife, you are sharp, and I have indeed been taking better care of my skin for you. I am surprised you noticed. I had decided to stop being lazy with my appearance."
I shifted against the pillows, keeping the real secret of my physical upgrades entirely to myself. I had gone from looking slightly above average to bordering on genuinely good-looking over the past few weeks, and it was all thanks to Ling'er tricking me into cultivating behind everyone's backs.
Hana leaned across the mattress with her bright blue eyes shining, giving my lips a quick kiss before rolling out of the sheets and shrugging her bare shoulders. "Sorry Rick, but you seem exactly the same to me. Anyway, the three of us need to get ready. We have to open the event hall first, so chop chop."
I stared blankly at the ceiling as she slipped out of the bed, letting out a heavy sigh at the pure irony of the situation. The literal smartest woman in my entire harem was completely clueless to the energy running through me.
I was entirely unaware at the time that most of my harem had actually figured out the truth a long time ago without saying a word to my face. They possessed an incredibly strong hunch that I was the legendary Yellow Emperor, but they were deeply afraid to bring it up in fear of breaking our peaceful, ordinary daily life together. Because of that underlying fear, my sudden body changes were actively ignored by the rest of the household and simply blamed on their secret assumption.
I only found out about their hidden suspicions much later, right after the sudden death of Adam Lee. But that is a chaotic tale for the not-so-distant future, specifically when our lives finally manage to stabilize.
The three of us headed straight into the showers to wash up and get ready for the long day ahead.
I stood in the dressing room a couple of hours later, adjusting my collar while I mentally mapped out exactly who was attending the gala from my harem today. Mei, Mercy, Hana, Kim, and I were heading out to the venue first to handle the early opening preparation and security checks.
Victoria would be attending the gala as the prestigious Long family Head, maintaining the exact same tradition she kept every single year. She was extra motivated to show up today because she wanted to secure the very first dance with me, a task I was actually prepared for since I had become exceptionally good at ballroom dancing over the last couple of years due to the endless social events I was forced to attend.
Jill would be attending the event as the Feng family Head, walking in with her head held high to represent her lineage. She was accompanied by Greg and Melody, along with their assigned Lee family bodyguard who kept a watchful eye on the surroundings.
Tonya Lang was arriving along with her younger husband, walking arm-in-arm through the grand doors. Her sister Linda planned to sit directly with her for the night, mostly because Linda had personally designed every single dress for my wives and lovers. She was spending time with her sister mainly for this event, plus she only really came for the dancing anyway.
The final woman in my harem, Helen Tang, was set to officially represent our Tang family for the grand event. She told me flat out before we left that she was only attending to watch me inevitably cause massive trouble, and she could not wait to see what happened. Linda had also made her a lovely, form-fitting dress to show off her beauty to the crowd.
James and Akeno were also joining the hospital table tonight for obvious reasons, rounding out our group.
A few hours later, I stood directly at the main entrance of the grand ballroom to greet the arriving crowd, smoothing down my suit jacket. I had Hana standing proudly on my left side, her fingers lightly brushing against my arm.
She wore a shoulderless, metallic-looking dress that went all the way down to her ankles, using a striking silver theme that caught the light with every movement. The smooth fabric of her dress and shoes consisted of a beautiful, slightly shimmering silk that turned heads the moment we stepped into the entry hall.
Linda knew exactly how much Hana liked her clothing to be a bit more risqué when attending public functions. With this specific design, Hana managed to achieve both elegance and absolute shock value at the exact same time. I admired how the fabric tightly hugged her dangerous curves, realizing the outfit practically screamed trophy wife to anyone walking past.
I turned my head toward Hana, who noticed my intense staring and looked up at me with a raised eyebrow. I offered her a warm smile as I adjusted my stance. "My wife, I was just thinking of our past. When you first met me when I woke from my fever. To think you and I would be here at this point. You gave me everything, including Rick Jr. I also remember you telling me you would always be my least troublesome wife. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Hana."
She grinned broadly at my words, looking incredibly pleased with herself as she adjusted the strap of her dress. "I think you praised me enough last night, but I guess hearing it every day is good too, even if you are very sappy, Ufufu. But I think it was your sappiness that drew me in. Hmm? You know, I think it was lucky I ran into Tony Deng in the market that day. Oh, speaking of which, how is Tony Deng doing?"
I smiled as I thought about him, picturing his usual behavior as a giant kid, or rather, a total computer nerd who lived for technology. It was wild to think he was the very first mini-boss I encountered right after I had awakened in this world. "He is doing really well these days. He just married his 4th wife, and he has been running my World of Warcraft game company well. I admire his dedication to the games he designs. Yeah, I think he was the first man I regretted beating up, ha-ha."
While we were standing at the doors reliving our past four years of marriage, we periodically turned our attention back to the entrance to greet the various guests who passed through security.
Then Hana's parents walked through the entrance, officially representing Star University, which I had freshly graduated from just a couple of months ago. I bowed my head slightly as they approached. "Hello father and mother Chang."
Dean John Chang was now forty-nine years old, and Gloria Chang was a bit younger, mostly because we knew better than to ask her real age. They smiled warmly at the two of us, displaying the matching blonde hair and striking blue eyes that Hana had inherited from them. John reached out and patted my right shoulder firmly to greet me. "You two look perfect together, and when will you bring my grandson over again?"
Mother and daughter immediately began gossiping to the side about their clothing and done-up hair, completely ignoring the men. I looked at the Dean and answered his question with a nod. "We will all come by for dinner on the 8th. I believe is what Hana planned."
John clapped his hands together, his face lighting up. "Great, oh, and I almost forgot... Happy 4th Anniversary today, ha-ha."
Both women smiled brightly upon hearing that statement, pausing their fashion conversation. It was July 1st four years ago, right before the annual Ball that day, that Hana and I officially wed and created a new life in her belly. That was the primary reason Hana was forcing me to come tonight, because I had a bad habit of bailing on our anniversaries during the Ball. I looked at John with a smirk. "It is the one Anniversary I cannot even miss if I tried. And thanks for giving me your amazing daughter."
After exchanging a few more quick words, they walked over to our assigned table, leaving us to wait for the rest of the arrivals. We continued to stand by the entrance to greet the many doctors and board members who filed into the room.
Hana noticed me scanning the crowd, looking around for the bald guy I had previously dropped stark naked in South City. She laughed softly against my shoulder. "That Glen fellow moved to the White State to run a hospital there, you scared the shit out of him. No one even flirts with me these days, fufu."
I chuckled at the memory, crossing my arms over my chest. "Hana honey, is it strange I feel disappointed that I lost someone to bully? Oh never mind, my bully target has just arrived, he-he."
Jill, Greg, Melody, and Clark Kent walked right through the security checkpoint, drawing looks from the nearby guests. Okay, his actual name is Clark Lee, but the guy is absurdly muscular, incredibly tall, with thick black hair and sharp blue eyes. He could easily pass for the comic book Superman as he stood there in his tight formal wear.
Hana already knew all about the hidden gunpowder waiting inside the room, so she stepped forward to greet Jill before I could open my mouth. "Greeting Head Feng, and thank you for donating and joining the Star General Ball."
Jill smiled politely, keeping her posture rigid as she offered a cordial reply. "Director Lee, just like every year, the Feng always support this institution." Jill's eyes shifted over to me next, her face hardening into a completely serious expression as she addressed me directly. "Mr Tang, I hope we can avoid any incidents like last time at my home?"
I pulled back slightly, feigning complete innocence as I raised my hands in the air. "I am always wonderful to those that deserve it, but please do not blame me for the decorators of the event, I promise I had nothing to do with it!"
All four of them looked past my shoulder and scanned the room, their eyes widening. They immediately noticed that the guest tables were all heavily decorated in bright green and white, featuring an overwhelming amount of green cloth and ribbons. Okay, I lied, I totally forced the staff to do it to mess with them.
Jill was the only one to instantly realize the specific decoration scheme was a direct jab aimed at her, causing her lips to curl in deep annoyance. Everyone else in the room assumed the green theme was a mockery over the Lee siblings' recent baby scandal with Greg.
Greg stepped forward, his fists clenching at his sides as he let out a low growl. "Rick you did all of this on purpose you bastard, especially after the video you spread!"
I only shrugged my shoulders in response, looking completely detached, which pissed them off even more because it was completely true. Melody glared at me with deep scorn, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "What you did was illegal, and the baby is Greg's, you bastard!"
I smirked and pointed a finger directly toward her belly, delivering my inflammatory words right to their faces without a shred of hesitation. "First it does not matter if it was or was not illegal, because it was covered by the amnesty when I first stole the video, ha-ha. Second, who knows who's baby that really is, hell it could be Clark's kid for all I know, right Clark?"
Clark stood entirely still, his massive frame shifting slightly as he tried to process the sudden accusation. He looked completely dumbfounded at how he had even been brought into the conversation in the first place. A flash of genuine panic crossed his features as his mind raced over the terrifying possibility. Had he actually slept with her during one of their family gatherings? He swallowed hard, a cold sweat breaking out on the back of his neck as he realized he was literally twice her age.
Melody stomped her foot against the polished marble floor, her face turning a deep shade of crimson as she glared at me. She grabbed Greg tightly by the arm and pulled him forward with all her strength. "I hope you die you fucking asshole, come Greg lets go in, I cannot look at him anymore."
She dragged a furious Greg right past the security checkpoint, running as fast as she could to escape my deliberate provocations. Clark looked back and forth between the retreating couple and Jill, who had not made a single move to follow them inside. He stood there looking completely unsure of who he was supposed to be protecting right now. After a moment of hesitation, he turned on his heel and hurried inside the grand ballroom to keep an eye on Greg and Melody.
Jill remained standing exactly where she was, leaving her completely alone with Hana and me at the entrance. She looked directly at me, her chest rising and falling as she actively struggled to hold back a visible smile.
Hana turned her back to us for a moment, stepping away to greet a newly arrived group of board members with a professional wave. The second Hana was distracted, Jill stepped closer and leaned her body entirely into mine. She pressed her front against my chest, allowing her heavy floral perfume to completely fill my senses.
Jill slid her hand smoothly into my right jacket pocket, her fingers brushing against the fabric before retrieving a small glass vial filled with a perfectly clear liquid. She pulled her hand back and deftly slid the vial directly down into her deep cleavage, hiding it from view. She looked up at me through her lashes, her voice dropping to a low murmur. "This is not dangerous, is it? I don't care but I do not want to have my child in jail, fufu?"
I leaned down slightly, keeping my voice low enough so the passing guests could not overhear our conversation. "Nope, it is an ancient medicine I concocted that was originally meant to cleanse the body of impurities. As long as it is only ingested once a week, it is harmless to the body. It is made with a blend of 26 types of common flowers, but it is neutralized as far as flower allergies. I personally would not use it because well, you stay in the bathroom for hours."
Jill let out a soft chuckle, her eyes flashing with amusement as she adjusted her posture against mine. "Rick my dear, do not forget me tomorrow, I already cleared my lunch schedule for you?"
I offered her a confident smirk, my hand lightly brushing against her hip for a fraction of a second. "Don't worry, I enjoy our bad behavior very much. But I will like it more when we can be more open."
Jill glanced over her shoulder toward the ballroom doors, her expression softening into something much more intimate. "Greg will be gone soon enough, just wait for me. With our child, we can finally be happy. Anyway, I need to go in before Greg realizes I am the real green problem, fufu."
She gave me a long, lingering look before finally stepping away from the entrance. As she walked past me to enter the ballroom, she deliberately brushed the entire length of her body against mine in a slow, provocative movement.
Hana finished her conversation with the university board members and turned back around just in time to catch the tail end of the interaction. She walked over to my side, a knowing smirk playing on her lips as she nudged my elbow. "If you tell me the truth, I will have seen nothing~! So, you and Jill?"
I rubbed the back of my neck, letting out a nervous laugh as I looked down at my wife's amused expression. "Yes Honey, this criminal is caught red handed."
Hana burst into a quiet, melodic laugh, thoroughly enjoying the sudden look of panic plastering my face. She reached out and wrapped her arm firmly through mine, leaning her head against my shoulder for a brief moment. "Good, and I saw nothing. Now I think everyone is here, so let us go and host the Ball, my husband, Ufufu."
