Burger with a side of Murder

''Damn...''

''I know right?!'' Rebecca cheered, happily digging into her burger as she sat on the hood of his car, her feet swinging happily as she ate.

He had to admit, it was a good damn burger, he could tell it was synth meat, but it was seasoned to perfection, a true burger heaven in this desolate wasteland outside Night City.

He finished his burger, learning that strangely enough, Rebecca took her time with her food, crunching up his wrapper, he tossed the wrapper into a bin not too far from them, once Rebecca finished, she did the same as David, then returned to crack open his trunk.

She handed him a tactician, he didn't question why as he checked to see if there was a shell loaded, which there was, he then rested it onto his shoulder. ''Please tell me we're not killing the burger man.''

''Nope! We're killing the people below his shop that has been harassing him, and stopping a human trafficking business!'' Rebecca smiled as she pulled out a smart assault rifle, if it was underground that meant cornering would be good. Handing him two smoke grenades.

''Don't want to do any damage to the basement, so no boom booms.'' Rebecca said as David pocketed the smokes into his pants, one on each side as he pulled his jacket on, slipping the extra shells into the pockets of the jacket.

''They got any camera's?'' David asked, Rebecca turning to look at him, giving him the biggest shrug.

''Not my skill set Choom.'' She said as she prepped her Smart rifle before heading in.

David used a ping deamon, getting multiple hostiles underneath, but no cameras.

''No cameras, 12 bodies though, one's curled up in a corner though so it might be a civi.''

Rebecca sighed, noting in a sarcastic voice. ''A civ? Nova.''

As the bell went off they walked in, David already having his shotgun at the ready plus additional rounds between his fingers holding the slide. David speaks up.

''Hey again Albert, you see them take anyone in recently?'' David asked, Rebecca, taking a position beside the door leading to the basement.

Albert nodded, he was hiding behind the counter. When he noticed they grabbed the guns, he knew exactly what they were going to do. ''Young lass, 'just a kid. She's in bad shape David...''

''Becca, you have NV?''

''Yea.'' She said, her eyes already glowing, though squinting a bit due to the lights.

''Albert, cover your ears.'' Suddenly all the lights went off in the store as he caused a blackout in the store by shutting the generator down, immediately he heard a lot of yells and hollers.

The old man covered his ears, tucking his body into the counter.

David watched the door, a few memories flashing in his eyes before he took a deep breath, it was slow at first but his eyes began to dim as he deactivated parts of his brain, the nanites speeding up other parts. Becca was watching him, and seeing the rapid change in him caused her to stop.

He listened to the footsteps, counting them as they happened, it was time to go back to the old days.

Suddenly a fired a round directly into the wooden door, blasting a chunk out of it, and the person standing behind it, racking another round as he immediately fired again, advancing right then as he began to advance, already replacing the shells he spent.

Advancing down the stairs he dumped two rounds again, two into a table as he killed two hiding behind it, bullets whizzing past him as Rebecca was on his ass, covering him as he advanced.

She killed one that he didn't turn to fire at, feeling a warm spot in her chest that she was not only trusted to watch his back, but he even left one alive for her.

Bringing the butt of his shotgun up he cracked the nose of one thug as he turned a corner with two SMGs, readjusting his stance, he blew the man's head to bits. 6 down.

He tossed one of the smokes he had deep, taking the distraction as they freaked out it might be a grenade to add the shell he just spent.

The next two he saw while turning the corner had their back turned, blasting out the cyber legs beneath one by taking out his pelvis, and then shooting the left arm off of the next one as it looked like he was readying up a launcher.

He continued to advance, entering the smoke without hesitation as he heard two bursts behind him as Rebecca put them down with a laugh.

David came to a stop, there were three in the crossfire, but if David tries to take out any of them, it would leave him exposed. Pulling the other smoke from his pocket he tossed it, this time firing at it just as it passed one of the pillars deeper in.

There was a scream as it seemed his plan worked, or at least partially as he ran forward, dropping to the ground and rolling to the left he took the legs out from under one of the guys and as he fell to the ground, he used another slug into his head as he kicked the pillar next to him, causing him to slid backward and under a table.

He heard a burst of fire from Rebecca, having memorized the sound of the smart rifle she was using already, and another body hit the floor. As he stood up and advanced he came across the guy with the shrapnel of the smoke grenade in his face still screaming, blowing out his brains across the ground as he advanced.

Both he and Rebecca came into a hostage situation, Rebecca fuming as she had her gun raised.

''DROP YOUR GUNS OR THE GIRL GETS IT!'' The banger screamed, he had a revolver to the side of the girl's shaved head.

''Alright, Choom! Just take a breath.'' David said as he slowly lowered his shotgun, slowly moving to kneel down and setting it onto the ground, Rebecca cursed as she threw her rifle down to the ground.

''Alright, now kick it ov-AAH! LITTLE BITCH!" The girl in his arms suddenly had a fire in her eyes as she bit the wrist of the man holding her shoulder, then elbows backward, hitting him right in the nuts as he let her go.

''Run to me!'' Rebecca shouted just as David quickly drew his Nue, unloading three rounds.

First, the wrist that held the revolver, got a spark and it bounced, the guy had an enhanced arm. David fired off another round as he began moving, as the girl ran past him he continued to advance.

He had aimed for the heart, another spark, and jerk but not a kill shot.

He then pumped two rounds into the guy's head, only getting his head knocked back twice before David slammed his foot into the guy's chest.

The guy bounced off the wall and down as David moved to put a knee between his shoulders.

He emptied the rest of his mag into the back of the guy's skull, and when that wasn't enough, he used the guy's own revolver.

The guy's head exploded violently, spraying the floor and David with brain matter and blood.

Once it ended he sighed, taking the revolver and placing it into his pant pocket as he stood, taking his nue as he reloaded it, chambering a round and putting the safety on as he holstered it once more.

Rebecca was only a few hairs taller than the girl, Rebecca hugged her tightly as the girl broke down into tears. Rebecca's lips quivered as she held the girl, fighting back the feelings she felt as well as she slowly lead the girl back into the restaurant.

David picked up his shotgun and the Smart AR. Standing up straight he took a deep breath as his brain began to activate his other senses, his smell, and taste coming back slowly as he smacked his lips with a disgusted face before he turned his head, spitting out a piece of brain matter.

He walked back up the stairs, setting the guns onto the counter as Albery was using a wet washcloth to clean the girl's face up, tears in his eyes.

''Albery, you got a shower or somethin'?'' David asked, wanting to get cleaned of all the blood, not wanting to track it into his beauty.

''Y-yeah, that door right there, second door on the right.''

''Thanks.'' David looked at Rebecca who had a conflicted look on her face as she stared at the girl, turning to look at David with that same conflicted look.

He watched a moment longer before asking. ''Albert, can you get her something light to eat? Help her calm down, I'll pay for ever-.''

''No, you won't... I won't make you pay for that, you've already done enough for me to be in your debt... Come on hun, let's get something in you... Pretty sure I got some deserts around here to.''

David turned to Rebecca as Albert looked after the girl, jerking his head backward before he turned to go into the door he was told. Entering what looked to be a small living area, going to the second door he opened it, finding a bathroom with a washer and dryer.

Stripping out of his clothes he used the washer, setting it to the blood setting, only momentarily thinking how fucked this world was to have a blood setting preinstalled nowadays before he entered the shower naked. Turning it on as he began to shower.

What he didn't expect, was a naked Rebecca to join him, standing there with her fist clenched, her face a storm.
