Day in the Life-Afternoon 2

''Adios Mio... How did I not know about that place until now? Those were such great tacos...'' Jackie groaned out from the back seat, rubbing his stomach in appreciation, all of them had at until they were full and they were damn good tacos. The seasoning was amazing as well.

''Damn good place, I'll have to extend a hand to them to see if they want to set up shop in the mega building.''

''Shit don't do that, I won't have any money left if I want to save up for my custom irons!'' Jackie groaned out, he had been training to duel wield pistols since it made him feel like a badass, and with the proper training and effort. He would be the proper badass.

''Self-control is a part of being a good Edgerunner Jackie, knowing when to fight and when to run, and to let the thoughts of a big payday get in your way. We're called Edgerunners for a reason.''

''Because no matter the job, we're always running the edge.'' V quoted as she watched out the window, watching the passing buildings.

David liked to have a little drive after eating, it helped settle everything and it gave them a chance to properly relax from everything.

''Yeah... I know, I need to get better at saving money.'' Jackie sighed a bit, rubbing at his forehead.

''Jackie bought an expensive gift for Misty that she feels bad for, so she's keeping it and not using it in case he ever needs the money again,'' V spoke up, getting a groan out of Jackie.

''Tell me about Misty, I've heard the whispers around the building but nothing worth thinking about.''

''Oh, here we go.'' V groaned as Jackie sat up.

''Oh man, she's great! I met her in the superstore when Mama was having me go get something, she's one of those witch folks, right? It's really Nova, I could listen to her talk about it for hours.''

''So you got yourself a Witch Jackie? Sure she didn't brew you a love potion to make you fall in love?'' David chuckled.

''Even if she did I wouldn't care, she's got beautiful green eyes that could take my soul away, skin as soft as a baby's ass and as lovely as cream.''

''I thought white women were too 'White for your blood' Jackie?'' David asked, glancing up to the rearview mirror to look at Jackie.

''She's a witch, it's different man, different.'' Jackie waved his hand.

''David...'' V started as she sat up, already reaching for her boot.

''Yeah, I see it V.'' David reached forward over to the passenger side and Bast had a portion of the dash slid out and to the side, pushing out what looked to be a factory-modified Nue. Using one hand while the other remained on the steering wheel he pulled back the slide to make sure it had a round in the chamber.

Jackie had sat up, aware of the growing tension in the air immediately, the 'Welles' instinct, able to pick up on the smallest hints, he was already ready when V spoke, something in her voice made him shove all thoughts of anything else to the side and prepared to defend himself.

''It's hot.'' David said as he reached back, Jackie didn't hesitate in taking the firearm from David's hand, checking if it was hot himself before he readied himself, starting to look around for the problem.

Behind them was one of the cars most used by 6th street, it wouldn't be a problem normally, but they had been following David for more than a few blocks, and his casual turns hadn't shaken them off.

David had a Valentino associate sticker on Bast, to show his support for his roots and to scare off more small-time thugs, but due to the heated relationships because of these asses recently, it also became a target.

David watched for a moment, his hands flexing a bit as he thought about it, he could handle these guys easily, hell.

He could crush them without even getting out of Bast, without even scratching her paint.

''V, your lead.'' David stated firmly, causing both of the kids to look at him.

They stared a moment before Jackie turned to V, not questioning David's order as V seemed to settle herself and then nod firmly.

''Leave one alive Jackie, David can you rough up the car to make sure the Driver has to keep both hands on the wheel? Then on my go, stop their car.''

Both David and Jackie nodded.

David grits his teeth.

He hated this, no matter where he was, or what time it was. No kid should need to kill so early, not to 'prepare' them to kill more people later. But that was Night City, if you didn't know how to fight for your life, most likely you would lose it, and even if you did know how to fight for it. Most times it still wasn't enough.

''Remember Jackie, wait for the first volley, nothing they have can pen Bast.'' V stated firmly which got a nod from Jackie.

David began to slow down and the 6th Street thugs suddenly stepped on the gas to pull forward up to the side of them, windows rolling down as a barrage of bullets started to hail over them.

David pulled the wheel a bit to the right, enough to cause Bast to rub against the other car, the one driving freaking for a bit before he seemed to drop the pistol he had been using, using both hands to get the car under control.

Just as the barrage stopped Jackie's window rolled down and he fired 7 shots, only four of them missing as he was able to take out the two in the back seat. Rolling his window up just as V rolled hers down, and with a steady hand through her knife, since David made sure to keep on top of them with Bast, there was little wind she needed to worry about, a strong dexterous toss and the knife buried itself into the front passenger guys throat.

Gargling on his own blood, V used the door as leverage to push herself back, and then pull herself hard forward as he arm whipped out and cracked the guy driving the car across the jaw, the sudden turn of his head causing him to wave and the car to swerve a bit. When David slammed back into the side of the car V grabbed the mans head and slammed it into the steering wheel.

All of the sudden knocks to his brain caused him to pass out against the wheel.

''DAVID!''

David suddenly pulled away, speeding up in front of the other car before he spoke. ''Brace.''

Both V and Jackie braced their positions as David began to slow down, there was a slight jerk when the two cars connected, but as David continued to press on the brakes slowly they came to a stop even as the car behind them burned rubber.

David got out of Bast, letting Bast handle keeping herself locked there with ease as David walked around, drawing his revolver as he made sure to put a round through the heads of the three they didn't need before he pressed the still hot barrel against the mans head causing him to jump with a start.

''Move and you're dead.'' David said simply as he reached forward,  ripping the door off it's hinges as he pulled the man out, once his foot was off the gas it stopped burning rubber.

David dragged the man away and tossed him against the building they stopped near, leveling his revolver to the man as V and Jackie got out of Bast, V retrieving her knife and using a clean part of one of their jackets to whip the blood off before she returned it to the sheath in her boot.

''You guys trying to start shit with the Valentinos?'' David asked simply as he started at the 6th street member in front of him.

''They're making it harder and harder to smuggle in parts of the city, the boss said to put some pressure on them to get them to step ba-.''

The man's head popped as a round from his revolver went through the man's skull. Letting the nanites reload his revolver David holstered it under his jacket.

''Scavenge the car for anything useful, the spoils are yours,'' David said to them as he walked over to Bast, even if he knew there wouldn't be any damage he still checked.

His eyes glowed as he called Padre.

<David? What can I do for you Son? We talked just yesterday, correct?> P

<We did, but this is business. The 6th Street just tried to attack Jackie, V, and I because Bast has an associate sticker.>

There was silence for a few moments before Padre spoke up. <You're all fine, right? I just need to make sure.> P

<Yeah we're fine... But don't tell Mama yet, I'll be the one to do it... Their both blood now.>

<I see... I'm sorry David, but thank you for the warning. Stop by later... for a prayer-prayer?> P

David was about to decline before he stopped. Letting out a sigh. <Alright Father, I'll see you tonight.>
