Chapter 8. Scarlet Rose Estate

Succubi Chapter 8. Scarlet Rose Estate

I flipped him off as he walked away, dragging his suitcase toward the male residential district.

And then.

I was alone.

Dragging my one suitcase through the female residential district.

Surrounded by new female students. All of whom were now staring at me.

I could hear whispers behind me.

"Wait. Why is there a guy here?"

"Is he lost?"

"Maybe he’s a staff member?"

I gritted my teeth and tried to ignore them.

Hey, this wasn’t my fault!

I lowered my head, focusing on my form. "Scarlet Rose Estate, Scarlet Rose Estate…" I muttered under my breath, pretending to read the map like I was a lost tourist.

Which, honestly, I kinda was.

The district was huge, with winding paths and massive dorm buildings, each labeled with elegant golden plaques.

I sighed, dragging my suitcase along, resisting the urge to snap at the girls still whispering behind me.

Then, finally— I saw it.

A large, elegant estate nestled at the end of a secluded path.

Scarlet Rose Estate!

My new prison.

…Okay, maybe not exactly a prison.

I had expected something more… ominous. A rundown, haunted-looking dorm where I’d constantly be on guard against flying shoes and accusations of being a pervert.

Instead, the Scarlet Rose Estate was stupidly beautiful.

I stood there for a moment, taking it all in.

The mansion-like dorm covered in lush, deep red roses. Elegant white pillars lined the front entrance, leading to massive wooden doors with intricate gold detailing. The garden alone looked like something straight out of a fantasy novel.

Flowers in perfect bloom. Pristine stone paths weaving between fountains. Even a small pond with crystal-clear water reflecting the warm glow of the sun.

My mom would lose her mind if she saw this.

She loved gardening, and if she ever stepped foot here, she’d probably hold me hostage until she got a tour of every flower.

I sighed. "Alright. Time to get this over with."

Clutching my student form tightly—because let’s be real, there was at least a 50% chance someone would question my existence here—I walked straight up to the door.

I tapped my student card against the lock, waiting for the system to register my identity.

Just as the door clicked open, I heard it.

The faint sound of a suitcase rolling across the stone path behind me.

I turned my head.

And immediately recognized the person walking toward me.

Dark green hair. Pale skin. Emerald eyes. A large suitcase, even bigger than mine, with an extra duffel bag stacked on top.

Evelyn. The assassin.

I blinked.

She blinked back.

For a moment, we just stood there, staring at each other in silence.

Then, because I didn’t want to risk getting stabbed for looking at her too long, I cleared my throat. "Uh. Hey."

She gave me a small nod in greeting. Then, to my absolute shock, she actually smiled.

Not a smirk. Not a judgmental look.

Just a calm, tiny smile.

…Huh.

I immediately pulled out my form, holding it up as proof of my innocence.

"Before you say anything," I started quickly, "I am a new student here. The Academy messed up my name, assumed I was a girl, and now I legally live here."

She raised an eyebrow.

I continued, speedrunning my explanation in case she accused me of anything.

"I have no ulterior motives, I do not have a fetish for all-girls dorms, and I am simply a victim of bureaucratic incompetence."

Evelyn stared at me for a moment.

Then, to my surprise, she let out a soft chuckle.

"I’ve heard," she said, her voice calm and even. "The Academy already told me about you."

I blinked. "Wait, they did?"

She nodded. "I was informed beforehand. And I already said I didn’t mind."

I let out a breath. "Oh. Well. Great."

That was… a relief?

I mean, one less person thinking I’m a creep. That’s a win in my book.

I forced a polite smile. "I hope we can be good roommates."

'And please don’t kill me in my sleep.' I wanted to say that. So badly. Her assassin aura was still strong. Like, ‘I have memorized every weak point on your body’ kind of strong.

Evelyn smiled again, like she could read my mind. "Don’t worry," she said, voice smooth. "I don’t kill roommates. Only my enemies."

I grinned, half-nervous, half-impressed. "Great."

Not concerning at all.

We both turned back to the door, stepping inside together.

The interior was just as insane as the outside.

A grand spiral staircase led to the upper floors, flanked by massive windows that let natural light pour in. Elegant chandeliers hung above a sleek marble floor, and the walls were decorated with ornate gold patterns and framed paintings.

The whole place reeked of money.

"Good afternoon," I called out instinctively.

Evelyn did the same, her voice soft but clear.

Silence.

We both paused.

I glanced at Evelyn. She looked at me.

"...Guess they’re all out," I muttered.

"Maybe they’re attending classes," Evelyn suggested.

I nodded. "Yeah, that makes sense."

I looked down at my form, scanning it for my room number. "Alright. So I just need to find my room and… hopefully not die before morning."

Evelyn tilted her head. "You sound like you’re expecting an assassination attempt."

I shot her a pointed look. "Forgive me for being cautious when I live with an unknown number of girls who may or may not think I’m trespassing."

She smiled faintly. "Fair point."

I exhaled, finally spotting my room number on the form.

"Room 1," I read aloud.

Evelyn glanced at her own form. "Room 4."

I nodded. "Alright. Let’s find our rooms and… try not to cause a scene."

Evelyn gave me a look.

I grimaced. "Okay, fine. I’ll try not to cause a scene. You already look like you’re incapable of causing one."

She smiled slightly but didn’t argue.

We both grabbed our suitcases and started walking deeper into the dorm.

The hallways were surprisingly quiet, with soft lighting casting a warm glow along the elegant wooden floors. For a dorm, this place was stupidly fancy. Everything screamed high-end luxury, from the intricate gold moldings on the ceiling to the expensive-looking vases lined neatly along the walls.

Evelyn walked beside me in calm silence, rolling her giant suitcase without a sound.

Yeah, getting dumped in an all-girls dorm was bad enough, but if the inside was anything like the outside… I might actually survive this.

I glanced at my form again, scanning for my room number.

Room 1.

Easy enough.

And yeah, it was exactly what I thought it was.

The first damn room I saw.

I stopped in front of the door, scanning the gold-plated number ‘1’ mounted neatly above it.

‘Well. Here goes nothing.’

I tapped my student card against the lock, and the door clicked open effortlessly.

Once I stepped inside, my jaw dropped.

The room was… huge.

Like, twice the size of my actual bedroom back home.

A modern, elegant aesthetic filled the space, complete with a sleek queen-sized bed, a wall-mounted holo-screen, and a wide desk with a built-in charging station.

And the color scheme?

Dark purple.

Rich, deep shades of violet blended with black and silver accents, giving the whole place a regal yet comfortable feel.

There were even flowers arranged neatly by the window.

“Holy. Shit…”

My evil little sister was gonna lose her mind when she saw this.

I dropped my suitcase by the door and immediately whipped out my phone. No way in hell was I passing up this opportunity. I snapped a selfie, making sure to angle the shot perfectly so the room’s aesthetic flexed in full view.

Sent to: Mom

Evan: I just got my new room!

I could barely hold back my grin. Because I already knew who was gonna see it first. And sure enough— My phone buzzed violently less than five seconds later.

“Incoming call Queenie”

I smirked before answering. The second I picked up, my 17-year-old menace of a stepsister practically screeched into the phone. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!"

I snickered. "Nice to hear from you too, Queenie."

"EVAN. EXPLAIN. RIGHT NOW."

I sat on my fancy royalty-looking chair, completely basking in my victory. "Explain what?"

"THAT. THAT ROOM."

"What about it?"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, ‘WHAT ABOUT IT’?! IT LOOKS LIKE A LUXURY HOTEL ROOM!"

I grinned. "Yeah. Pretty nice, huh?"

There was a pause.

Then, a deep inhale.

Ah, shit… Here we go.

"YOU LITTLE SHIT."

I laughed evilly. "Relax, relax. It’s not my fault the Academy assigned me a penthouse suite."

"WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME YOUR DORM WAS THIS NICE?!"

"Because I didn’t know?"

"BULLSHIT!"

"Seriously! I was fully expecting a shoebox room!"

Queenie groaned aggressively.

"This is so unfair. I should’ve taken your spot. I deserve that room."

I rolled my eyes. "Right. And I should’ve taken your closet. Oh wait. I couldn’t. Because you stole half my stuff."

"That was a necessary sacrifice!"

"For who?!"

"For me!"

I snorted. "Figures."

She huffed dramatically. "Ugh. This is so unfair. Mom! MOM, LOOK AT THIS—"

I heard faint laughter in the background.

Then, my step mom’s voice came through.

"Oh wow, Evan, that actually looks nice!"

I grinned. "Told you."

She hummed. "Looks better than my bedroom."

Queenie groaned again. "MOM, DO NOT SUPPORT THIS INJUSTICE."

Mom just laughed.

"Fine, fine," she said, amused. "As long as you’re comfortable, Evan."

I smirked. "Yeah. Pretty comfy."

Queenie let out an outraged gasp.

"That’s it. I’m hanging up. Enjoy your dumb palace, you traitor!"

-Click!

I chuckled, tossing my phone aside.

Best. Victory. Ever.

I stood up, running a hand through my hair before glancing around the room again.

Honestly?

This might not be so bad.

At least my room was dope.

Now.
