Chapter 28. Combat Class
Succubi Chapter 28. Combat Class
The instructor scanned the group, her eyes sharp as steel. “Ready?” she asked.
Adrian stood tall beside me, his expression calm but determined. “Yes.”
The instructor’s gaze flickered to him. “Who’s stepping up first?”
Adrian raised his hand.
I sighed internally. ‘Of course, he did.’
Elise raised an eyebrow. “And how many opponents do you think you can handle?”
Adrian didn’t even hesitate. “Ten.”
I whipped my head toward him. “Wait, ten?! Are you sure we can handle that?”
His blue eyes flicked toward me, a hint of amusement in them. “I need to know how strong I am.”
I exhaled, shaking my head. ‘Great. I team up with the guy who wants to test his limits on day one.’
Instructor Elise smirked, her violet eyes gleaming. “Bold. Very well.”
She clapped her hands, and ten Illusory opponents materialized before us.
Their bodies glowed with an eerie, magical light—each one unique, each one an artificial construct meant to mimic real combatants. I quickly assessed them as their status screens flickered into view.

‘Okay. That’s a problem.’
I clenched my fists, my senses sharpening. ‘Level 18? That’s higher than any normal first-year student should be fighting.’
Adrian, however, was already preparing to engage.
“Stay sharp,” he muttered, his hands glowing with pale blue runes.
“Yeah, yeah,” I exhaled. “Let’s not die.”
The moment the barrier dropped, the fight began.
The first three charged immediately.
The Arcane Duelist dashed forward with unnatural speed, flickering between reality and illusion, his blade humming with enchanted energy.
The Spellblade Adept followed close behind, his movements precise and calculated, his sword gleaming with a magical aura.
Above them, the Wind Mage hovered mid-air, arms raised as the air whipped around him, gathering a rapidly forming gale sphere.
They were trying to surround us.
I moved first.
My foot pressed against the ground, and I lunged forward, dodging past the Arcane Duelist's opening slash just as Adrian cast his spell.
"Mana Chains!"
Thin, glowing chains of blue energy shot from his fingertips, wrapping around the Wind Mage’s legs.
The floating caster let out a startled grunt as the magic yanked him down mid-air, slamming him toward the ground.
The impact broke his concentration, the swirling air dissipating instantly.
That was my chance.
I pivoted sharply, kicking off the ground, and closed the distance between us in a flash.
The Wind Mage tried to muster a counter, his hands glowing with mana—too late.
"Shadow Slash!"
Dark energy gathered around my fingertips, forming a solid mana blade in my grasp.
I swung upward, the force of my strike cleaving through the mage’s body before he could react.
[CRITICAL HIT!]
His form burst apart into shimmering fragments.
One down.
I barely had a moment to catch my breath before the Arcane Duelist was already on me again, his blade slicing through the air.
I twisted, ducking low just as his sword whizzed past my head, the air sizzling from the magic embedded in its steel.
He recovered instantly, stepping into a rapid follow-up slash aimed at my ribs.
I moved before he could finish the attack, planting my foot and spinning inside his guard.
His weapon cut through empty air—I was already behind him.
A second mana blade materialized in my left hand, and I drove it straight into his back.
His body jerked forward, but I wasn’t done.
With a sharp twist of my wrist, I ripped the blade upward, severing through his form.
The Arcane Duelist let out a silent scream before his body burst into shattered fragments.
Two down.
I barely had time to process my kill before the Spellblade Adept came at me next.
Unlike the Duelist, he fought with a mixture of swordplay and spellcasting, his left hand glowing with arcane energy while his right held a steel blade.
He swung low—I jumped back, dodging the initial cut, but then— "Arcane Pulse!"
A shockwave of raw mana erupted from his free hand, aimed directly at my chest.
‘Shit!’
I had no choice but to take the hit, my body flung back a few steps from the force. My boots scraped against the arena floor, and the sharp sting of impact spread through my ribs.
Before I could react, Adrian moved.
"Frost Spear!"
A massive lance of ice materialized mid-air, and with a sharp flick of his fingers, Adrian sent it flying toward the Spellblade Adept.
The Spellblade turned to block—too late. The spear pierced straight through his chest, freezing his entire body in a solid block before his form shattered into nothingness.
Three down.
I barely had a second to register the kill before a scorching heat flared behind me. I ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding a firebolt streaking past my head, the air hissing from the sheer heat.
The Pyromancer had already started his attack, his hands glowing with pulsing embers, preparing for another volley.
At the same time, the Frost Sentinel surged forward, his enchanted ice spear thrusting toward Adrian’s chest.
Adrian’s eyes flickered, his mana flaring in response. He sidestepped just in time, the ice spear skimming his coat, sending a burst of frost into the air.
I barely had time to warn him before a second projectile flew toward him.
"Arcane Barrier!" Adrian cast.
A transparent shield flickered to life, barely blocking a second flaming projectile aimed at his torso. Adrian staggered slightly under the impact, his stance visibly unsteady.
I gritted my teeth. The attacks weren’t stopping.
The Pyromancer launched another wave of fire while the Frost Sentinel moved in again, aiming to corner Adrian.
‘Damn it. If we keep dodging, we’ll burn out first.’
I moved on instinct.
My body coiled with tension, and I lunged forward, slipping past another firebolt just as the Pyromancer raised his hands for a more powerful incantation.
The ground beneath me heated up—he was setting a trap.
I twisted sharply, kicking off to the side just before a burst of flame erupted from the floor.
He clicked his tongue, adjusting his stance, preparing another attack.
No.
Not this time.
Another dark mana solidified into a jagged blade in my hands, and I slashed across his chest before he could react.
His eyes widened in shock before his form burst apart into glowing fragments.
Four down.
I turned just in time to see the Frost Sentinel lash out at Adrian again.
Adrian lifted his hand, attempting to cast— But his fingers shook. His breathing was ragged. His movements were delayed.
‘Shit.’
The Sentinel’s spear was already coming down toward him.
I lunged.
I wasn’t fast enough.
Adrian forced his body to move, barely tilting his head away from the killing strike. The ice spear scraped across his shoulder, sending a burst of frost scattering into the air.
He gritted his teeth, fighting through the pain.
"Mana Bind!"
A shimmering net of magic wrapped around the Sentinel’s arms, halting its movement for just a second.
That was all I needed.
I launched forward. The mana blade reformed instantly, pulsing stronger, sharper.
I twisted my body mid-air, using the full force of my momentum and drove the blade straight into the Sentinel’s chest.
[DIRECT HIT!]
The construct cracked, shattered, and vanished.
Five down.
I exhaled sharply, turning to Adrian.
His breath was uneven, his posture slightly hunched.
He was exhausted.
And the sixth opponent was already coming for him.
The Lightbringer—a heavily armored construct, wielding a massive radiant hammer—charged forward.
Adrian tried to raise his hands, but his mana was flickering. His knees buckled slightly. He was running on fumes.
I clenched my jaw.
I had to carry the fight now.
