Chapter 26. Pity
Succubi Chapter 26. Pity
The moment I stepped out, the scent of food hit me immediately.
Grilled meats, fresh bread, something slightly sweet—yeah, it was definitely lunchtime.
I glanced around, spotting students heading toward the cafeteria, chatting in groups or flipping through their books as they walked.
I adjusted my bag, sighing.
Time to find Leon before he ate himself into a food coma.
As I made my way toward the cafeteria, I noticed. More eyes. Again.
Just like before.
Girls whispering, sneaking glances. Some subtle, some not-so-subtle.
A group of elven girls near the hallway entrance paused mid-conversation, watching me with curious smiles. A demi-human girl with fox ears whispered something to her friend before both of them giggled.
I tried to ignore it.
Really, I did.
But it was hard to ignore when it felt like I had somehow become the most interesting person in the entire damn academy overnight. Shaking off the weird tension, I pushed forward, slipping through the crowd and into the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was packed, as expected. Students from different Houses filled the large space, chatting and laughing over their meals.
I immediately spotted Leon—mostly because he was waving frantically at me from a table near the window.
“EVAN!” he practically yelled. “GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!”
I sighed. “Goddamn it, Leon.”
Shoving my way through the crowd, I reached the table where Leon was sitting… and immediately noticed he had a mountain of food in front of him.
Like, actual mountain.
Steak, rice, vegetables, bread, fruit, some kind of dessert I didn’t even recognize.
I stared.
Leon grinned. “Bro. I had an intense class. I earned this.”
Evelyn, sitting across from him, sighed. “You did exactly two training drills and spent half the time complaining.”
Leon pointed at her. “That still counts.”
I sat down, setting my bag aside. “You’re gonna pass out before the next class if you eat all that.”
“Pfft. Please.” He stuffed a chunk of steak into his mouth. “I’ve—chew—got this.”
I rolled my eyes, pulling out the snack compartment Lilith had packed for me.
Immediately, I felt Leon’s gaze lock onto it like a starving beast eyeing its prey.
His chewing slowed, his fork hovering mid-air as he stared at the small, neatly packed box in my hands.
“…That’s so small,” he muttered, eyes narrowing in betrayal.
I sighed. “Leon, I just ate lunch with you last break. Remember?”
He blinked, thinking for a second before groaning. “Oh. Right. But still, man, that’s barely anything.”
I huffed. “It’s a snack. Not a second lunch.”
Evelyn, sitting across from me, casually pulled out her own snack box, identical to mine. She glanced at me, then at Leon, her expression blank. “You complain too much.”
Leon scowled. “Yeah, yeah. Let’s see what’s even inside this ‘snack’ of yours.”
I popped the lid open and glanced inside, fully expecting something simple—maybe a small chocolate bar or some fruit.
But no.
This was something else.
My jaw dropped.
Inside the box was a perfectly arranged assortment of high-quality, fancy-ass food that looked like it belonged in some five-star gourmet restaurant.
Thin slices of luxury dark chocolate, delicate fruit parfaits, nutrient-packed protein bites, and…
Wait.
Was that…
I stared, my brain short-circuiting.
“Is that… edible golden leaf?”
Evelyn, completely unfazed, nodded. “Yes.”
Leon choked on his food.
“WHAT?!” he coughed. “WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE GOLD IN YOUR SNACK?!”
I was too busy processing to answer. I mean, yeah, I knew Lilith had ridiculous cooking skills, but who the hell casually adds edible gold to a snack?!
I looked at Evelyn for confirmation, half-expecting her to say something like "It’s normal in the female dorm," or "This is how succubi eat."
But she just took a bite of her own fancy-ass snack and didn’t even react. Like this was completely normal.
Leon was still losing his mind.
“You guys are insane,” he hissed, pointing an accusing finger at my box. “This isn’t a snack. This is a high-class dessert platter served in royal courts!”
I blinked, glancing at the flawlessly arranged food again. “…Huh.”
Now that I looked at it closer, it really did feel more like something I’d see in a luxury banquet rather than a casual school meal.
I exhaled, closing the lid for a second to reassess my life choices. “…I think I’ve officially stopped questioning how Lilith operates.”
Leon groaned. “I hate how you guys are just okay with this.”
Evelyn sipped her drink. “You’re just jealous.”
“Of course...” he sobbed.
I smirked. “Maybe you should just move into the girls’ dorm, huh?”
Leon slammed the table. “IF THEY GIVE ME GOLD-PLATED SNACKS, I WILL.”
I laughed, popping open the box again and picking up one of the luxurious chocolate pieces. It was smooth, dark, and had a fine golden dusting on top.
The moment I took a bite, my soul left my body. The richness. The deep, intense flavor mixed with just the right amount of bitterness. The way it melted on my tongue…
Oh. Holy. Hell.
I actually paused mid-chew, closing my eyes as I processed the absolute decadence I had just experienced.
Leon was watching me like a hawk. “Bro. Bro. That good?”
I swallowed, exhaling slowly. “…Leon.”
He leaned forward. “Yeah?”
“This,” I said, holding up the chocolate, “is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth.”
Leon looked betrayed.
Evelyn smirked. “I told you.”
Leon groaned. “Why the hell was I got the wrong dorm?”
I chuckled, picking up one of the small parfait cups next. It had layers of freshly sliced fruit, a light whipped cream topping, and a subtle drizzle of what looked like enchanted honey. I took a bite. I almost ascended.
Leon slammed the table again. “STOP LOOKING SO HAPPY.”
I couldn’t help it. This wasn’t just food. This was an experience. I sighed contently, taking another slow bite. “Leon, my guy, you do not understand the level of blessing I have been given.”
Leon slumped in his chair, crossing his arms dramatically. “I hate everything.”
I turned to Evelyn. “You knew about this level of food and didn’t warn me?”
She shrugged. “You would have figured it out eventually.”
I scoffed. “Oh, yeah, totally. Because everyone just expects their food to be borderline divine.”
Leon let out a deep sigh. “I’m in the wrong House. I’m in the wrong dorm. I’m in the wrong damn reality.”
Evelyn smirked, stirring her drink. “Then transfer.”
Leon groaned. “Don’t tempt me.”
I snickered, finishing off my parfait before moving on to one of the protein bites. Even those looked high-end, carefully made with a perfect balance of nutrients and flavor.
Leon glared at me. “You’re enjoying this too much.”
I grinned. “Damn right I am.”
He groaned again, leaning back in his chair like the world had personally wronged him.
I sighed, shaking my head as Leon continued sulking like a kid who just found out Santa wasn’t real.
He looked so damn miserable that for a second—just a second—I actually felt bad for him.
I glanced at my snack box, then at Leon.
He was staring at it like a starving man in a desert, his eyes full of suffering.
I sighed again. ‘Damn it.’
“Here,” I muttered, grabbing one of the chocolate pieces and sliding it across the table.
Leon’s soul visibly returned to his body.
“Oh my god.” He snatched the chocolate so fast I almost didn’t see his hand move.
I rolled my eyes. “Relax, it’s just one piece.”
Leon held it like it was a sacred treasure, his expression a perfect mix of joy and disbelief. “You—You’re giving this to me?”
“Out of pity, yeah.”
Leon didn’t care. He popped it into his mouth immediately.
And then— He froze.
His entire body went still, his hands slowly dropping to the table as his eyes widened in pure, unfiltered shock.
