Chapter 133. Save The Buns
Succubi Chapter 133. Save The Buns
Callahan’s eyes narrowed, glittering under the lamplight like he was one smug mana-charged predator about to pounce. His hair blew slightly even though there was zero wind, and his entire body screamed final boss energy.
“Uh…” I said, voice cracking just enough to make me hate myself. “It suddenly appeared?”
Technically not a lie. It did suddenly appear. Like, pop! Surprise, you have a barrier spell now. I didn’t mean to summon it. It just… happened. Like hiccups. Or magical taxes.
But Callahan didn’t buy it.
He stared at me like I just said I summoned a dragon using expired coupons.
“That’s not how magic works,” he said flatly.
“I mean…” I rubbed the back of my neck. “It worked though.”
He stepped closer. His boots made this soft crunch on the gravel path, and I could feel the mana radiating off him like my spine wanted to shrink.
“No glyph,” he said. “No prep. No chant. Just bam, full dome barrier spell, layered ancient structure by the way. That’s not standard build.”
I flinched.
Oh no.
I couldn’t tell him the truth. Couldn’t say “Hey, I’m a royal demon with hidden powers and am currently living in an estate full of thirsty succubi who think I’m delicious.”
That would break him.
No.
That would ignite him.
He’d go full mental.
Like reverse harem warlord mental.
The moment he finds out where I live, it’s over. He’d volunteer to teach “mana meditation” classes just to get a peek. And the moment he found out all the succubi in the estate were into me?
He’d cry.
He’d cry blood.
“Let’s see what you got,” Callahan suddenly said, smirking like the demon king who just cornered the hero halfway home from the grocery store.
Oh wait.
I’m the demon.
So he’s the hero.
And this is the part where the hero tries to murder me for existing too sexily.
Lightning sparked at his fingertips.
“W-Wait wait wait!” I shouted, hopping back.
A crackling bolt launched.
I activated Shadow Step, reappearing ten feet away on instinct, barely avoiding getting zapped into an awkward obituary.
He raised his wand.
The one I’d been mocking earlier.
Oh no.
He was serious.
He wanted to fight. Full on fight.
Right here. In the middle of the road. Beside a public bench and some very innocent pastries.
I raised both hands. “Okay! Wait! Just… wait!”
He paused. “What?”
“Let me…” I coughed, voice dropping in pitch. “Let me save the buns first.”
He blinked.
“The what?”
I pointed behind me to the bench. “The buns. The soda. My snacks. Please. Spare them.”
He stared.
“…Dude.”
I stepped sideways, hands still raised. “They didn’t ask to be here. They’ve been through enough. I’m not rich enough to waste food like that.”
Callahan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Fine. Put them on the bench. No lightning on the snacks. Food is food.”
I shuffled over, crouched like I was protecting the last kittens on Earth. I gently placed the bags on the bench near the lamp post, patting one of the buns like it was a child heading to school.
“No attacking my food, okay?” I said solemnly. “They are innocent.”
“Just get back to your position,” he muttered. “You’re so anti climactic sometimes I forget you actually survived a banshee.”
I crab walked back, wiping my hands on my pants like a dramatic martial artist even though I’d just protected bread.
Then came silence.
Chilly breeze.
A cat meowed somewhere in the distance.
Callahan stood straight again, wand in hand. His expression darkened just a little, just enough to send goosebumps running across my skin.
“Okay,” he said slowly. “Where was I…”
He squinted. “Oh! Right!”
He pointed his wand at me again, flaring with a sudden surge of mana. “HOW did it suddenly appear?! That makes no sense!”
I shrugged. “You also don’t use a wand but suddenly you brought one today. What gives?”
He blinked. “I did it for style.”
“Exactly. What if I summoned the barrier for style too?”
“No one pulls ancient barrier architecture out of their butt for style!”
I scratched my chin. “You don’t know that.”
Callahan smirked. Darker this time. Like a storm cloud in a cape.
“You think this wand is just for style?”
He let it drop.
Just dropped it.
But instead of clattering to the ground, the wand hovered.
One inch.
Just enough.
It glowed. Mana rippled from the tip like a soundless bell had been struck. The ripple expanded in perfect concentric circles, brushing through the grass, the gravel, the lamp post.
And then…
[You have been trapped inside Callahan’s Battle Dome.]
The world shimmered.
Like glass over water.
A translucent dome of mana enclosed us both, humming with quiet pressure. It cut the outside world away. Muffled the night sounds. Turned the path into an echo chamber with one overpowered genius mentor and one bun-saving accidental demon.
My eye twitched. “What is this?”
He crossed his arms. “This place isn’t a real battle arena, so I can’t legally fight a student in public. That’d be a violation of at least three rules and probably get me demoted to guidance counselor.”
I blinked. “Okay… and this is relevant because?”
Callahan pointed at the floating wand.
“This wand isn’t for casting spells. It’s for creating arena loopholes.”
“…”
“I can’t battle students unless we’re inside a registered combat dome.”
“You made a portable battle arena?”
“For emergencies.”
“This is an emergency?”
He scowled. “You pulled an ancient spell out of nowhere! I’m not just your teacher, I’m your advisor! If you’re secretly a walking world ending artifact I need to know!”
“Okay but like—”
“Also, I’m bored and you dodged lightning. That was hot.”
“WHAT?!” I cringed so hard.
“I mean cool. It was cool,” he corrected in a panic. “Shut up! Ready your stance!”
I groaned, dropping into a ready position. “Can I at least take off my jacket first?”
“No. Style points deducted if you do.”
“Callahan—”
“Style. Points. Evan.”
I held my hands up, letting my fingers pulse with shadow mana. “Fine. But if my soda gets warm out there, I will report you.”
Callahan cracked his knuckles. “Deal.”
