Chapter 120. Chokeslammed
Succubi Chapter 120. Chokeslammed
A dozen undead exploded from behind him, all at once.
“Okay,” I muttered, “that’s a lot.”
Claws reached for my mask. Teeth snapped at my shoulders. One skeleton tried to climb my back like I was a mount.
“Get off!” I yelled, grabbing its skull and flinging it into its friend.
Another lunged at my leg, jaws inches from my boot, limbs reaching upward, probably aiming for my torso. And yeah, I saw the way it twitched toward my chest. Toward the rune just under my collarbone.
“Oh hell no!”
I spun, slicing across its chest with one blade and kicking the shattered bones away before it got any ideas.
He laughed, dark and rough.
“You don’t fight like a newbie. What are you?”
I didn’t answer.
I just moved.
[Skill Activated Dark Orbs]
Fifty orbs burst into existence again, spinning in tight formation.
He growled. “That spell again?”
The orbs pulsed.
Then exploded.
Small gravity bursts shook the platform, yanking undead into clusters. Bones clattered like falling silverware. The necromancer braced himself, leaning into the shockwaves, boots skidding across the ground.
I lunged through the smoke.
Shadow blades up.
Eyes locked on his chest. His rune was right there. Perfect shot.
He blocked the first hit. Barely. The second pushed him back. The third forced him to shift, exposing his right side.
I saw an opening.
Perfect.
He saw it too.
“Don’t even—” he started.
I Shadow Stepped.
The world folded again.
I blinked into existence right behind him.
He whipped around, swinging his chain.
But I parried, blades locking with the bone links.
His breath hitched.
I struck at his chest.
Once again, he summoned Bone Wall.
I cracked it.
He stumbled again.
We circled each other now. Breathing hard. Sweat dripping. Mana crackling in the air, sizzling like raindrops hitting hot metal.
He wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. “You’re relentless.”
I shrugged. “I drink a lot of sugar-free energy drinks.”
He cracked his neck again. “You’re dangerous.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
“It is.”
He thrust his hand forward. A blast of green magic shot at me.
I dodged left.
Another shot.
I jumped over it.
He snorted. “Show-off.”
I charged again.
We collided mid-platform.
I pushed.
He pushed back.
My muscles trembled. His did too.
Then…
Behind my mask.
The undead closed in.
The arena lights flared.
My heartbeat thundered.
My mana roared.
I smiled.
“Round two?”
He smirked back. “Bring it.”
The crowd howled as the undead closed in around us like a storm surge of bones and empty eyes. The air was thick with mana, crackling, humming, charged with tension and the stench of old rot from his summoned minions. I could hear the cheers. Thousands of voices screaming, chanting, stomping from the stands above like a tsunami of noise, but none of it mattered.
My whole world had narrowed to one thing.
The rune on his chest had cracked. Hairline fractures danced across its glowing surface like lightning frozen mid-strike. One more solid hit and it would break. That meant victory. And yeah, mine was still intact. Still glowing, just under my collarbone, right side. Still untouched.
All I had to do was finish this.
One more hit.
I wasn’t gonna do it as a mage.
I was gonna do it as a brawler.
Because I saw it. Finally saw it in full. The way he flinched every time I got close. The way he summoned skeletons to keep me at range. The way his eyes darted to my feet, not to dodge, but to measure distance. He hated melee. Hated close-quarters. He had the muscle, sure, but not the movement. Not the footwork. Not the grit.
And me?
Agility was practically my middle name.
Also a healthy amount of petty spite.
So I ran.
No mana blast. No flashy spell. Just raw speed.
The second his skeletal wall dropped, I bolted through the gap, mana flaring around my body like black oil igniting in the air. Devil Armor wrapped over my limbs, sleek and jagged, shadows dancing across the etched plates.
He raised his arms. Defensive stance.
“Don’t!” he growled.
“Too late!”
I closed the gap in a blink, blades forming in my hands once more.
[Shadow Blade – Twin Form]
But I didn’t swing yet.
Instead, I faked left. Slid right.
He reacted. Barely. Too slow.
I pivoted behind him, slid low under his sweeping elbow, then popped up right in front of his face. His eyes widened just as I drove a knee into his ribs.
He staggered.
I followed up with a horizontal slash, aimed right at the cracked rune.
He blocked it with his gauntlet, but I felt the shock jolt his shoulder.
He growled.
“Why won’t you just back off?!”
“Because your rune’s still glowing,” I said, ducking under his next punch.
Then he moved like lightning. Raw, brutal instinct kicked in.
He grabbed my coat. Then my throat.
“Too slow,” he said.
And lifted me.
“Ah—!” I choked, feet leaving the ground.
The world tilted.
Then slammed down.
He chokeslammed me into the platform so hard it dented.
My back hit the metal like a meteor. Pain jolted up my spine, and my ears rang. My head spun. I saw stars. Real ones. A few of them even waved.
[Damage Taken: 150 HP]
His knee pressed into my stomach. His hand gripped my collar.
I could feel the pressure. The weight. His other hand rose.
“No—!”
His fingers curled, aimed right at my rune.
His palm hovered over it. I saw his nails glowing with magic, ready to detonate. One hit, and he’d crush it.
[Skill Activated Shadow Step]
My vision folded.
His face blurred. The sky warped.
And I vanished.
Gone.
I reappeared behind him, crouched low, panting. The echo of his strike slammed into the platform, a split-second afterimage of what would’ve been a direct blow to my rune.
He spun around, blinking. “What—?!”
“You almost got me,” I said, standing slowly, body aching but still burning with mana.
“I had you!”
“True,” I muttered. “But you hesitated.”
His jaw clenched.
“You’re fast,” he muttered. “Annoyingly fast.”
“You’re strong,” I said. “But not fast enough.”
He summoned his bone chain again, snapping it in his grip. The runes glowed red now. Angry. Desperate.
The crack on his rune widened slightly from earlier, spiderwebbing across the crystal like a final warning.
He knew it too.
His eyes darted down to it for just a second.
That was enough.
I dashed in again.
This time, no spells. No summons.
Just fists and blades.
He swung the chain wide, hoping to catch me mid-charge.
I slid under it, sparks flying as my boots scraped the metal floor.
Then I was inside his guard.
[Skill Activated Death Wave]
I slammed my palm into the floor mid-sprint. A pulse exploded outward, not big enough to kill, but just enough to stagger.
His footing slipped.
I jumped.
Spun mid-air.
[Shadow Blade – Greatsword Form]
My dual blades merged into one massive black greatsword. Long. Heavy. Shadow-wrapped.
And I came down on him.
Hard.
He raised his arms to block.
Too late.
