[A Duodecade Of Nomadic Journey] – Val’s Transformation – The Power of P’an-T’ao
As Val raced through the maze, his focused determination caught the attention of two ethereal figures floating in the air. Among them was a woman, who spoke with a hint of intrigue, "Another mortal has ventured into my garden after such a lengthy absence. Let us hope he proves more capable than the previous one."
The other individual, an elderly and frail man, clutching a staff adorned with a dragon's head, responded, "My Queen Mother, it appears this mortal possesses a remarkable quality within."
Curiosity piqued, the woman turned her attention to the old man and inquired, "Pray tell, Shou-Hising, what do you mean?"
Before Shou-Hising could answer, he noticed a sudden shift in Val's movements. The mortal veered towards a direct path leading to the exit, catching the attention of both observers.
...
As Val raced through the maze, he keenly listened to the soft whispers emanating from the surrounding plants. Their guidance led him along a path that promised the route to the exit. With unwavering determination, he pushed himself to his limits, sprinting with all his might. After a few intense minutes, the sight of the exit came into view, urging him to exert a final burst of energy. Just as the maze threatened to reshape itself once again, Val leaped through the exit, narrowly escaping its clutches.
Upon landing, Val took a moment to survey his new surroundings, realizing he had arrived in a mystical garden. With a single glance, he recognized the distinctive features, confirming his conclusion. "So, this is the renowned Garden of P'an-T'ao," he uttered, acknowledging his arrival in this sacred place.
The garden unfolded before Val like a living canvas, a vibrant tapestry of captivating colors and intoxicating scents. It was a harmonious blend of both familiar and otherworldly flora and fauna.
Emerald-green grass, soft and inviting, stretched out like a lush carpet, beckoning Val to venture barefooted and connect with the earth beneath him. Amongst the verdant expanse, a myriad of flowers bloomed in a radiant display, painting the landscape with their brilliant hues and infusing the air with their sweet, intoxicating fragrances.
Towering ancient trees stood sentinel, their branches reaching skyward in a graceful embrace. Their canopies intertwined, forming natural archways that filtered sunlight, casting gentle, dappling patterns on the winding pathways below.
Delicate streams gracefully meandered through the heart of the garden, their crystalline waters cascading over smooth stones. These miniature waterfalls created a symphony of soothing sounds that harmonized with the tranquil atmosphere. Elegant koi fish swam serenely within the pools, their vibrant colors adding flashes of life and movement to the serene tableau.
In this magical oasis, Val was surrounded by the wonders of nature, a sanctuary where the beauty of the earthly and ethereal realms coalesced into a harmonious spectacle of sight, sound, and scent.
Rising from the ground, Val found himself captivated by the garden's exquisite beauty. With each step, he moved closer to the heart of the garden, drawn by an ethereal aura that emanated from its core. There, at the center, stood a majestic tree, its branches reaching towards the heavens with a regal grace.
His eyes widened in awe as he beheld the sight before him—the tree bore magnificent fruits, large and round, with a captivating golden hue. These were no ordinary peaches; their radiant appearance hinted at their extraordinary nature.
...
Shou-Hising voiced his concern, addressing Xi Wangmu, the Xian Goddess of Immortality and Queen Mother of the West. "Shouldn't we intervene and prevent him from obtaining P'an-T'ao?"
Xi Wangmu, radiating wisdom and tranquility, responded with a serene smile. "Why would we? The maze was designed as a test for mortals, a means to determine their worthiness. If he has successfully traversed it, then he has proven himself deserving of the peaches."
The Xian God of Longevity, Shou-Hising, contemplated her words and nodded in acknowledgement. "You are wise, Queen Mother. Please accept my apologies for questioning your judgment."
...
Excitement surged through Val's veins as he hastened his steps, drawing nearer to the tree bearing the coveted Peaches of Immortality. To his astonishment, as he reached out to pluck a peach, the branch itself stirred, releasing the fruit into his awaiting hands.
In a gesture of gratitude, Val lightly tapped the bark of the tree, silently acknowledging its generosity. His gaze shifted to the peach, its surface shimmering with a captivating golden hue. Without hesitation, he took a bite, savoring the sweet essence that filled his senses.
Yet, as the succulent fruit touched his lips, a profound transformation began to unfold. Val's eyes widened, their once ordinary hue replaced by a radiant golden glow. An intense surge of energy coursed through his being, causing him to instinctively recoil, a mixture of astonishment and pleasure escaping in the form of a groan.
Suddenly, Val's vision blurred, his eyes filled with pain as blood trickled down his cheeks. Desperately, he attempted to wipe away the crimson stain, but his efforts proved futile. As his agony intensified, he sensed an unsettling twist in his body, accompanied by searing, burning sensations coursing through every fiber of his being.
Summoning every ounce of willpower, Val fought through the torment. With blood still dripping from his eyes, he turned his attention back to the remaining portion of the peach. Determined not to falter, he consumed it without hesitation, the final bite sealing his fate.
In a flurry of events, the seed was cast aside, embedding itself into the ground beside the tree. Val's skin, now darkened to a crimson shade, began to peel away, causing him immense discomfort. Realizing he needed immediate relief, he sprinted towards a nearby lake, discarding his clothes along the way.
With a resounding splash, Val submerged himself in the water, the lake his refuge from the searing heat emanating from his body. The surrounding liquid reacted, sizzling as if unable to contain the intensity of his transformation. Gritting his teeth, Val fought through the torment, steadfast in his resolve. The pain he endured paled in comparison to the countless hardships he had already faced.
After what felt like an eternity, the agony finally subsided. Val emerged from the lake, droplets cascading down his newly transformed, pristine skin. He could sense an indescribable power coursing within him, amplifying his very essence. A triumphant smile graced his face as he marveled at his newfound abilities, his hands clenching with newfound strength.
Yet, the toll of his arduous journey and the transformative ordeal weighed heavily upon him. Exhaustion swept over Val, his consciousness slipping away. With a faint whisper, he muttered, "Oh...shit!" before succumbing to the embrace of unconsciousness, collapsing upon the grassy terrain.

Within the alternate dimension, the being observed with a sly smile as Val completed his transformative journey. It manifested a perplexing puzzle before it, its intricate pieces shifting into place as if guided by an unseen force. With a mere wave of its hand, a puzzle piece materialized, depicting the pivotal moment when Val consumed the Peach of Immortality.
In a soft, contemplative voice, the being murmured, "Another piece falls into place." The being, harboring hidden intentions, continued to observe, knowing that the puzzle's completion drew nearer with every twist of fate.
