Chapter 60: The Weight of Desire

The morning sun filtered through the thin paper windows, casting a warm, hazy glow over Kai’s room. He stirred, stretching his limbs. His joints popped with a satisfying crack, the Strength 19 coursing through his body making him feel lighter, faster, and infinitely more dangerous than the boy who had woken up in this bed yesterday.

He rolled over, expecting to hear the familiar sounds of the morning—the clatter of pots, the chopping of vegetables, the soft humming of his mother.

Silence.

Kai sat up, frowning.

"Mom?"

He swung his legs off the bed and walked out. The small house was empty. The kitchen was cold, the hearth unlit.

"Where did she go this early?" Kai muttered, running a hand through his messy hair. "It's not like her to leave without saying anything."

He walked to the front door and pushed it open.

The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of dew and damp earth. Kai stepped out onto the small porch, scanning the narrow street of the outer sect district. It was quiet, save for a few stray dogs and early risers heading to the fields.

Then, he saw her.

Ye Rou was walking up the path, struggling slightly under the weight of two large, woven hemp bags. Her face was flushed from exertion, a fine sheen of sweat glistening on her forehead despite the morning chill. Her chest was heaving, her heavy breasts rising and falling rhythmically against the fabric of her worn dress.

"Hey, Kai!" she called out, spotting him on the porch. Her face lit up instantly, the fatigue replaced by a bright, doting smile. "You're awake, son!"

Kai hopped off the porch and jogged toward her.

"Mom, where were you?" Kai asked, his voice laced with mock sternness as he reached her. "I woke up and the house was empty. I was worried."

Ye Rou stopped, lowering the bags to the ground for a moment to catch her breath. She wiped her brow with the back of her hand, offering him an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry, Kai," she panted, her chest still heaving in a distracting manner. "I checked the pantry this morning and... well, we were out of everything. Rice, oil, vegetables. The cupboards were bare."

She looked down at her worn shoes, a shadow of embarrassment crossing her beautiful face.

"And... I didn't have any money left from last month's allowance. So I went to see Mrs. Lin next door. I had to borrow a few copper coins to buy these."

She looked up at him, her eyes soft and vulnerable.

"You know how hard it is for us lower-class people, son. Especially with the main family cutting our stipend again. I just wanted to make sure you had a good breakfast after your mission."

Kai felt a pang of annoyance at the Ye family, but it was quickly overshadowed by the sight of her devotion.

"Mom," Kai sighed, stepping closer. "You should have told me. I would have gone to the market. You shouldn't be carrying heavy loads like this."

"Aww," Ye Rou beamed, reaching out to pat his arm. "You are such a sweet son. But you were sleeping so soundly! You looked so peaceful. I didn't want to disturb you just for some groceries."

She bent down to pick up the bags again.

"But... since you are here," she teased, grunting slightly as she lifted the heavy handles. "You can help your poor mother carry them inside, right?"

"Of course, Mom," Kai said, his voice dropping an octave. "Let me take the burden."

He didn't take the bags from her hands immediately. He stepped in close. Too close.

He invaded her personal space, his chest brushing against hers.

"Here," Kai murmured.

He reached out. But instead of grabbing the handles of the bags, his arms went around her arms.

He effectively hugged her from the front to reach the bags. As he did, his forearms pressed firmly against the sides of her breasts.

Ye Rou froze. She felt the heat of his arms through her thin sleeves.

Kai capitalized on the moment. As he pretended to adjust his grip on the bags, he deliberately dragged his forearms inward.

Squish.

He sandwiched her massive, soft breasts between his muscular arms. He rubbed them, compressing the flesh, feeling the heavy, yielding weight of them against his muscles.

"Ah...!"

Ye Rou gasped, her eyes going wide. Her mouth fell open, and a small, involuntary moan escaped her throat.

"Mmm..."

The sensation was electric. The pressure on her breasts sent a jolt straight to her nipples, causing them to harden instantly against her dress. It was the same feeling from the kitchen yesterday, but bolder. Stronger.

Kai looked down at her, his face inches from hers. He saw the flush spread down her neck. He saw the hard points of her nipples pressing against the fabric, right next to his arms.

"What happened, Mom?" Kai asked innocently, though his eyes were dark and knowing. "Are they too heavy?"

Ye Rou trembled. She looked up at him, her mind a chaotic mess of maternal guilt and womanly desire. She couldn't tell him to stop. She didn't want him to stop.

"I... No..." she stammered, biting her lower lip. She adjusted her stance, inadvertently rubbing her breasts against his arms again. "No, son... nothing."

She shivered, her nipples aching with a sudden, sharp sensitivity.

"I guess... I guess it's just cold outside, right?" she whispered, her voice breathless. "That's why I... shivered."

Kai smirked. He tightened his grip on the bags, finally lifting them from her hands, but he let his knuckles graze the underside of her tits one last time as he pulled away.

"Yeah," Kai agreed, looking directly at her hardened nipples. "It is pretty chilly. Let's get you inside and warm you up."

He turned and walked toward the house, carrying the bags as if they weighed nothing.

Ye Rou stood there for a second, her hands hovering over her chest, her heart pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs. She watched his broad back, her legs feeling strangely weak.

"Warm me up..." she repeated to herself, a flush burning her cheeks.

She shook her head and quickly followed him inside, closing the door on the cold morning air, but trapping the heat inside with them.
