Chapter 16: The Main Course

The sun had dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in bruises of purple and charcoal. Kai stepped back into his own home just long enough to change his shirt and splash water on his face.

Ye Rou was mending a basket by the fire. She looked up as he entered, her eyes soft.

"Mom," Kai said, leaning against the doorframe. "Mrs. Lin... Auntie Lin insisted I stay for dinner. She made too much food and said it would be a waste since her husband is away. I might be late."

Ye Rou paused, her needle hovering over the wicker. A flicker of something unreadable crossed her face—not quite jealousy, but a shadow of possessiveness she likely didn't understand herself.

"Oh," she said quietly. "That is... kind of her. You go on then. Don't let the food get cold."

"Don't wait up," Kai said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

He turned and left, the cool evening air doing little to douse the heat simmering in his veins.

He walked the short distance to the neighbor's house. The street was quiet. The lantern outside Mrs. Lin's door was lit, a beacon in the gloom.

Kai knocked.

The door opened almost instantly, as if she had been standing right behind it, waiting.

"Kai..."

The breath left his lungs.

Mrs. Lin had transformed. Gone was the disheveled, frantic housewife from the morning milk incident. In her place stood a woman who had spent hours preparing for a "casual" dinner.

She wore a dress of deep, crimson silk that hugged her figure like a second skin. It was cut in the traditional style, with a high collar, but the slit up the side went dangerously high, revealing a flash of pale, soft thigh with every shift of her weight. The fabric strained across her chest, struggling to contain the heavy, lush breasts that Kai had tasted only hours before. She had applied a touch of rouge to her lips and cheeks, and the scent of jasmine perfume rolled off her in waves.

But it was her expression that gave her away. Her eyes were wet, shimmering with a mix of shame and desperate anticipation. A deep blush stained her neck and chest.

[Ding!]

[Target Analysis: Lin Mei] [State: Flustered / Highly Aroused] [Affection: 80/100 (Hidden Desire)] [Charisma Check: PASSED (Overwhelming Presence)]

80, Kai thought, his eyes darkening. She’s not just ready. She’s starving.

"You look..." Kai stepped inside, his voice low and vibrating with intent. He didn't finish the sentence immediately. He let his gaze travel down her body, slow and tactile, as if he were touching her with his eyes. "You look beautiful, Auntie Lin."

Mrs. Lin shivered, her hands nervously smoothing the silk over her hips. "It's... just an old dress. I thought... since we are having a guest..."

"It suits you," Kai said, kicking the door shut behind him. The latch clicked, sealing them in. "Red is the color of passion, isn't it?"

Mrs. Lin swallowed hard, her chest heaving. "Dinner... dinner is ready. Come. Sit."

She led him to the small table. It was set for two. The room was dim, lit only by candles that cast flickering shadows on the walls, creating an intimate, almost suffocating atmosphere.

In the center of the table was a clay pot—Ye Rou’s pot—filled with braised pork that smelled rich and savory. There were side dishes of vegetables and rice, far more than two people could eat.

Kai sat down. Mrs. Lin rushed to pour him a cup of wine, her hand trembling slightly so the ceramic pitcher clinked against his cup.

"Nervous?" Kai asked, catching her wrist gently.

Mrs. Lin froze. Her skin was burning hot.

"No... I just..." She wouldn't meet his eyes. "I haven't had a man at this table in... a long time. My husband is always away."

"His loss," Kai murmured, releasing her wrist but letting his fingers drag slowly across her palm before pulling away.

They began to eat. Or rather, Kai ate. He ate with the gusto of a man who needed fuel, tearing into the tender meat. Mrs. Lin barely touched her food. She watched him. She watched his lips wrap around the chopsticks. She watched his throat move as he swallowed.

"The food is incredible," Kai said, breaking the silence. He looked at her over the rim of his wine cup. "But you're not eating."

"I'm not very hungry," she whispered, fidgeting with her napkin.

"Really?" Kai set his chopsticks down. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. The candlelight danced in his obsidian eyes. "Because you look hungry to me, Lin Mei."

He used her given name. It was a breach of etiquette. It was intimate.

Mrs. Lin’s breath hitched. "Kai... I..."

"Tell me," Kai said softly, his voice weaving a spell around her. "Does he touch you? Your husband?"

The question hung in the air, heavy and taboo.

Mrs. Lin looked down at her lap. Her hands were clenched so tight her knuckles were white. "He... he works hard. He is tired when he comes home. He just wants to sleep."

"So he leaves a woman like you cold?" Kai scoffed, shaking his head. "If you were mine... I wouldn't let you sleep."

Mrs. Lin’s head snapped up, her eyes wide. The blush on her face deepened to a feverish red.

"Kai... you shouldn't say things like that..."

"Why not?" Kai stood up slowly.

The chair scraped against the floor. He walked around the small table. Mrs. Lin didn't move. She sat frozen, her heart pounding against her ribs like a trapped bird.

Kai stood behind her chair. He placed his hands on her shoulders. The silk was smooth, but the heat radiating from her skin was intense.

"You dressed up for me, didn't you?" Kai whispered into her ear.

"I..."

"You put on perfume for me." He leaned down, burying his nose in the crook of her neck, inhaling deeply. "You smell like flowers. And beneath that... you smell like a woman who needs to be taken."

"Kai, please..." It was a weak protest. A plea not for him to stop, but for him to take the responsibility away from her.

He slid his hands down from her shoulders, tracing the line of her collarbone, and then lower. His large, calloused hands came to rest just above the swell of her breasts. He could feel her rapid heartbeat under his palms.

"Admit it," Kai commanded softly, his thumbs brushing the top of her cleavage. "You invited me here because you wanted to feel this again. You wanted me to touch you."

Mrs. Lin trembled violently. Her head fell back against his stomach. Her resistance shattered under the weight of her loneliness and the overwhelming aura of his Charisma.

"Yes," she whispered, a tear slipping from her eye. "Yes... I wanted it."

Kai smirked.

"Good girl."
