Chapter 291: Why don’t you let me be your assistant?

--Friday, July 10, 2172

“How interesting… The generic genetic data from the quirk thief and the spider truly overlap…”

In his workshop at UA, Kai couldn't help but murmur, his gaze fixed on the data on the screen as he reached out to take his coffee cup. Sage, perched on Kai's shoulder, nodded and commented in a thoughtful voice.

“Quite so, master. I'd even venture to say that All For One's quirk is a simplified derivation of the spider's…”

“It certainly gives that impression… Could it be a coincidence?” Kai murmured before bringing the coffee to his lips. Sage shook her head and replied.

“It's too much to be just a coincidence, master. One For All and All For One, from what we heard from All Might, are the quirks of two brothers. The stockpiling of strength is actually a quirk that All For One gave to his brother, who could only pass on quirks—it wasn't an original part of the quirk.

“Furthermore, if we think about that monstrous woman from Spider Island, her quirk was quite similar—capable of stealing quirks, though with a limit. The mother spider could also take quirks from those it consumed and combine them to give to its offspring.

“All these quirks revolve around the manipulation and transfer of quirks themselves, an extremely powerful and dangerous ability. Moreover, even though we've searched everywhere, aside from All For One, we have no data on anyone else capable of doing something similar, except for that monstrous woman…”

“One For All has always given me a bad feeling and always seemed somewhat unnatural, but I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves, Sage. You're practically confirming it with your speculation.” Kai shook his head and commented seriously. Sage flew to look her master in the eyes and added gravely.

“It certainly is quite speculative, master, but think about it. From what we know, One For All and All For One were born at the dawn of the awakening of quirks, and nothing similar has appeared until now. It's too much of a coincidence that on an island with no contact with humanity since before the age of quirks, the spider and the monstrous woman with such similar abilities would appear.”

“You're right about that… Also, there's something that's really bothering me…” Kai replied with a serious tone, which put a solemn expression on Sage's face. She quickly asked.

“The male Drider?”

Kai nodded. After taking a large gulp of coffee, he set his cup on the table, leaned back in his chair, and commented while looking at the ceiling.

“Yes… The Aura Script patterns in his genetic code seemed something unique to him. Although it's true we don't have the complete genetic code of the mother spider, we still have a good portion, and even then, we haven't found anything similar. There's something very strange about all this, and I don't like it one bit…

“Why were there two such different types of genetic technology in that place? By all appearances, the results are similar—multiple quirks and colossal power. So why take two such different paths…? That would only divide resources, and clearly the mother spider was stronger… I really don't understand… It almost seems like…”

“Technology from two different civilizations… Achieving the same result through different means…”

Sage commented in a solemn voice. Kai let out a long sigh and began to spin in his chair with a lost expression, not knowing what to think. After a while, Kai stopped spinning and propped his elbows on the desk, then commented in a soft voice.

“… We have no way of knowing at the moment, since we haven't even been able to find a clue about those strange lizard men from the monster woman's memories… So for now, let's set it aside and focus on replicating the resurrection quirk. That's the most important thing now.”

“Understood, master.” Sage nodded with a serious tone, then entered [In] state, as she had sensed someone approaching the workshop.

Soon, the workshop door opened, revealing on the other side a beautiful young woman with pink hair, dressed in a jumpsuit tied at her waist. Holding what appeared to be a robotic armor boot, the beautiful girl rushed into the workshop, placed it on Kai's desk, and commented with a huge smile while leaving a portable memory drive on the table.

“Saito-kun! I did it! I improved the repulsors' efficiency! Take a look at my new baby!!”

“Let's see what you've got here… For now, go get some coffee or something you like.” Kai commented while picking up the metal boot after inserting the memory drive into his computer.

…

As Kai reviewed her proud baby, Hatsume Mei began looking around with shining eyes, then walked to the area with the coffee maker and snacks. No matter how much she looked at that workshop, it was truly impressive—so much so that she was sure her creativity would soar every time she visited. But undoubtedly, the most impressive thing about the place was none other than that handsome young man with black hair and blue eyes behind the desk.

Although his physical beauty was enchanting, what made him even more attractive in the eyes of the beautiful girl was undoubtedly his “technical beauty.” Although at first she even doubted whether someone her own age could really be the genius behind the PhotonEdge chips, she ended up more than convinced. Just looking at the blueprints the young man delivered to UA every month was more than enough to see his genius.

His technical skill was not only superior to that of an experienced professional like Power Loader, but his creativity was also impressive. He was always able to find simple and efficient solutions to incredibly complicated problems, always leaving her amazed and in awe. But undoubtedly, where his “technical beauty” could best be seen was in his patents.

From time to time, thanks to being sponsored by the Yaoyorozu family's company, she was able to see details of certain patents. But among those, some stood out above all. The patents for the PhotonEdge photonic chips that she could glimpse sporadically seemed to her like exquisite paintings made by a master artist. Practically the epitome of beauty.

Although she was still far from being able to design such a complex chip on her own, she was still able to understand a little—enough to be amazed and filled with nothing but praise for the genius capable of designing something like that. But knowing that this genius wasn't a grumpy old man like her grandfather but a handsome young man her own age, who also studied at the same academy, inevitably led her to one conclusion.

If that wasn't destiny, then she didn't know what was. Only someone like him could be the father of her babies, in every sense of the word. Therefore, Mei wanted to get closer to him, work by his side, and see the magic happen up close. But just like in a soap opera, things couldn't be easy—the future father of her babies had a girlfriend, and from what she had seen, a rather jealous one.

Moreover, perhaps out of consideration for his girlfriend, the future father of her babies avoided getting too close and didn't give her the opportunity to work with him, something that filled her with sorrow.

But even though it was difficult, Mei was not willing to give up. He was the future father of her babies, and that was something she had already decided. Therefore, she just had to start thinking about how to gradually break down those barriers separating them.

First, she had to prove her worth, since every great inventor, no matter how good, would eventually need a competent assistant. Especially someone who always seemed to be working on something like Saito Kai. Therefore, she was sure that if she proved her worth, he would eventually call on her to work.

Moreover, from the way he helped review her babies like today, especially when they were related to his work, she was sure it wouldn't be long. In due time she would be working in that beautiful workshop that wouldn't leave her dreams—she was sure of that. But that left a second problem: the jealous girlfriend.

That was a serious problem. She still wasn't sure how to handle that topic, as she really wasn't very sure how love and jealousy worked. Because of this, she had recently been researching the topic and had finally been able to get an idea of how to proceed. At the end of the day, jealousy comes from the fear of losing a loved one, so the answer was simple: she just had to share.

If she could convince the jealous girlfriend that she didn't want to take him away and only wanted to work with him. Make some babies (technology), and maybe in about 20 years, some human babies to continue the species. The jealousy should disappear.

After all, in many countries, with the goal of breeding powerful quirks, it was legal to have multiple spouses. So, although this didn't happen in Japan, as long as the jealous girlfriend was the only legal wife, there would be no problem. As for taking Saito Kai for herself? Such a thought never crossed her mind. After all, she was dying to see someone with the genius of someone like Saito Kai combined with the quirk of Yaoyorozu Momo.

Someone like that would be the supreme inventor and would be a great companion for her own children, who would obviously be geniuses. Her genius mixed with Saito Kai's couldn't possibly result in someone ordinary; the product of their union would surely be an unrivaled genius, something she was also dying to see.

…

Feeling her plan taking more shape in her mind, Mei couldn't help but smile energetically as she brought some cookies to her mouth. At that moment, Mei noticed that Kai started typing at high speed on his computer, so she curiously approached to see what he was doing. Looking at the screen, Mei could see huge amounts of code appearing. Mei quickly understood it was an important improvement and some comments on the boot drivers.

Soon, Kai switched to a CAD program where the boot blueprints were open and quickly began making changes. Watching Kai make changes at a terrifying speed, then run quick little simulations before making fine adjustments, Mei's eyes couldn't help but shine brightly. That technical display in her eyes was more attractive than any love letter, capable of piercing her heart like an unstoppable spear.

As Mei allowed herself to get lost in the sea of code and blueprints, Kai removed his hands from the computer, stretched, and gave the boots one last look. After a final review, Kai nodded, visibly satisfied, then turned to look at the almost hypnotized girl and commented in good humor.

“The improvement is quite interesting, very creative. You've really improved a lot. I made some small changes and highlighted some problematic parts for you to work on later. But, definitely, you've improved a lot. You're already at a senior engineer level, so I'm going to make a call to increase your sponsorship budget. You deserve it. Good work.”

“Really?!!” Although a little lost in her thoughts, upon hearing about increased funding, Mei couldn't help but ask excitedly. Kai nodded with a smile.

“Very seriously. I'm thinking of a 35% increase. Keep up the good work.”

“Thank you, Saito-kun!! I'm going to make hundreds of babies with all that money, hahaha!!”

Mei replied excitedly, but at that moment, her plans crossed her mind, so she quickly looked at Kai and commented with a coquettish smile. Well, what she believed was a coquettish smile.

"Saito Why don't you let me be your assistant~? You have plenty of space here and better materials than what Power Loader-sensei lets me use…”

“I'll be honest with you. The truth is I don't like others touching my tools, which is why I only work with a partner I trust with all my heart.”

Kai commented while stretching his hands to take his coffee cup, only to realize it was empty. Seeing this, Mei quickly ran to the coffee maker and brought the coffee to pour him a new cup while speaking in a 'coquettish' voice, accentuating her generous chest—a little technique she had learned in her internet research.

“You can trust me, Saito I'll bring my own tools, and I promise that if I use one of your tools, I'll treat it very carefully and leave it exactly where I found it. I'll clean the workshop every day and do inventory every week. Yes, pwease~"

Seeing Mei's antics, Kai couldn't help but let out a small laugh as he brought the cup to his lips. But the aversion to someone else touching his workshop was real. Unless it was someone like Keiko or Nemuri—people he loved and trusted with all his heart—he didn't like anyone touching his tools.

(But come to think of it, now that Keiko is going to help me with deciphering the genetic data and skill development, the development of the girls' equipment is going to be delayed…) Realizing something, Kai couldn't help but pause and look at Mei more closely.

Seeing the thoughtful light in Kai's eyes, Mei's smile grew immensely, and she quickly accentuated her generous bust even more and winked. Although she wasn't quite sure what it was for, she had read it was very useful in the art of 'seduction,' so she had been practicing. At that moment, Kai let out a sigh and commented as he set his cup on the table.

“Let's do this. Principal Nezu owes me compensation, so I'm going to ask him to expand my workshop. Therefore, we can try working together after the summer break and see how it goes.”

“Great!!! We're going to make lots of babies together, Saito-kun!!!”

Mei lunged and hugged Kai tightly, burying her head between her breasts. Immediately after, the energetic girl took the boot and the portable memory drive, then ran out of the workshop while announcing loudly.

“I'm going to tell Power Loader-sensei and get my things ready!!!”

“It's not until we get back from break…” Kai commented with a small sigh as the girl disappeared from his sight, at which point he couldn't help but shake his head with an amused smile on his face.
