Chapter 249: It’s too much to be a coincidence.

--Monday, June 22, 2172

[When exactly did that happen?] Kai asked, his deep gaze fixed on the video. The fairy began to explain while creating more holographic screens.

[Just a few hours ago, Master. Since there were many inconsistencies in what happened, I started tracking every person at the scene—the attackers, the guards, and even the other people in the restaurant. This woman is a relatively well-known model and ‘socialite’ who was dining at the restaurant that night with a senator who holds significant influence in the country.]

[But aside from that, there’s nothing particularly striking about her. I was just doing routine surveillance on her until I stumbled upon this. According to the analysis, the way they disappeared has an 82% similarity to how the sniper disappeared that day.]

[I see. Did anything happen during the 'return flight'?] Kai asked, a hand on his chin. Sage shook her head, her wings shimmering with colors as she generated new holographic screens.

[Not really, Master. I detected a few people tracking the plane’s route online and thwarted some intrusion attempts into the airport’s security system by the security office’s investigation teams, but that’s about it. No one truly capable tried to actively follow you.]

[Strange… No one is actively watching me, and just as I take a 'public trip', an attack happens, and it seems connected to the sniper… It’s too much to be a coincidence; someone wants to lead me by the nose or make me lower my guard.] Kai remarked in a reflective tone. Sage nodded with a similar expression.

[I have the same feeling, Master.]

[Then let’s reinforce security measures and push forward the implementation of the Quirk Enhancer project for the family. They might be planning something big against us.] Kai ordered with a serious expression. Sage nodded firmly and began working at full speed.

[I’ll assign it the highest priority, Master.]

[Perfect. Focus on that. I’ll work on refining the support equipment and Aura Script patterns. We can’t let them catch us off guard.]

Kai commented with an incredibly serious expression before preparing a new cup of coffee and activating the family’s passive security and monitoring systems. Immediately after, Kai minimized the range of his observation haki to avoid distractions and focus entirely on his work, aiming to progress as quickly as possible.

Thanks to his state of total concentration, Kai’s productivity soared to superhuman levels, while time slipped by without him even noticing. Suddenly, a pop-up screen appeared in front of him with a real-time video of the workshop door, showing Momo, Mina, Nejire, and Jiro waiting and chatting among themselves.

“Is it already this late…?” Surprised, Kai opened the door while glancing at the clock at the bottom of the screen, confirming it was indeed lunchtime.

“Saito! We finally have practice with All Might today!!”

Upon entering, Mina exclaimed with a huge smile as she threw herself onto one of the sofas. Kai closed all the windows on the computer, then stood up and walked to the coffee machine while commenting with a calm smile.

“Yeah, finally a chance to check the results of the time I carved out—so painstakingly—for training you all… How exciting.”

Though Kai’s voice was calm and measured, Mina and Jiro couldn’t help but shiver as if struck by lightning, which made Nejire and Momo laugh. As Momo poured a cup of coffee for Kai, Nejire turned to the pair of girls and commented with a beautiful smile.

“You don’t have to be so scared! Kai-chan isn’t scary at all!” Nejire ran over to Kai and, using her index fingers, forced him to smile before looking back at the girls with a bright, incredibly innocent grin.

“See!”

“…”

(That’s only for you…)

Mina and Jiro shared the exact same thought as they exchanged bitter smiles. Amused, Momo handed the fresh cup of coffee to Kai, then looked at her friends and commented with a warm smile.

“Kai just wants to see the results of the training. I’m sure you want to see them too, right?”

“Hehe, yeah, we worked really hard.” Mina said with a small, shy smile. Jiro nodded and quickly added.

“Harder than ever.”

“I like seeing people who value my time, because I hate wasting it.” Kai commented casually, then sat down on a sofa with Nejire, holding his cup of coffee.

“Kai, don’t scare them.” Momo, who was preparing tea, said in a calm voice. Kai turned to her with an innocent expression and replied.

“How could I be scaring them?”

“Don’t play dumb.” Momo shot back, rolling her eyes. At that moment, Nejire leaned against Kai and cheerfully remarked while looking at Momo.

“Momo, you can’t accuse Kai-chan like that! He’s not doing anything!”

Momo gave Nejire a skeptical look, to which Nejire responded by sticking out her tongue before resting her head on Kai’s shoulder with a joyful smile. But this casual interaction between the trio made Jiro narrow her eyes, while Mina watched them with visible suspicion.

Ever since Momo ‘announced’ her relationship with Kai, her interactions with Nejire had started to seem increasingly suspicious to the girls. No matter how you looked at it, Nejire was too ‘close’ to Kai, and while things had been like that before, now Kai was Momo’s official boyfriend. Naturally, one would expect Nejire to keep a bit of distance out of respect.

But Nejire not only didn’t do that, she seemed even more ‘clingy’ now—more so than Momo, his actual girlfriend. Yet, despite her beauty and sensual figure, Nejire almost seemed like an innocent angel.

So it was hard for them to be sure if something more was going on or if Nejire simply didn’t grasp the complexities of a relationship, and Momo didn’t bother to explain it to her—something perfectly plausible given what they knew about them.

“So, girls? How have these past few days been without us for training?” Nejire asked with a smile as she rested her head on Kai’s lap. Mina, though suspicious, quickly flashed a smile and replied cheerfully.

“It’s been tough, Hado-sempai! Saito doesn’t hold back, and we always end up all banged up! Please come back, we’ve missed you tons!”

“Fufu, I’ll train with you all again this weekend. Ryukyu has some personal stuff to handle, so I’ll be freer the next few weeks!”

“That sounds awesome. We really enjoy training with you, Hado-sempai.” Jiro said with a smile, then took the tea Momo offered her and thanked her with a grin.

“Yeah, it’s better training among girls. Saito and Togata-sempai are such brutes!”

Mina added enthusiastically after setting her tea on the table. Kai pulled his cup of coffee away from his lips and commented while calmly looking at the energetic, pink-skinned girl.

“So I’m a ‘brute,’ huh? Interesting.”

“Hehehe, it’s just a figure of speech; don’t pay attention to it, Saito~” Mina quickly looked at Kai with doe eyes and spoke in an ‘adorable’ voice, to which Kai rolled his eyes before glancing at the door and calmly announcing.

“Lunch is here.”

With the announcement, everyone turned to look, and moments later, a UA staff member arrived pushing a cart full of food.

…

After lunch, Mina sprawled out on the sofa, stretching lazily, though her gaze never left the trio in front of her. Though Momo was undoubtedly Kai’s official girlfriend, as admitted by both of them, seeing Nejire feed Kai with a smile somehow felt incredibly harmonious. There were no fights, no tears, no pain—just a peaceful, happy coexistence, something she had never witnessed before.

But perhaps even more incredible was that Momo didn’t seem jealous in the slightest, despite how intensely jealous she had appeared toward the pink-haired girl from the support course during the sports festival. While she had kept a watchful eye on that girl, with Nejire, she smiled, joked, and even actively supported their interactions, seeming like an entirely different person.

(Could it be…?)

Mina’s mind couldn’t help but wander to an ‘inconceivable’ possibility. But at that moment, she felt a gentle tap on her torso, causing her to turn and look at Jiro, who simply shook her head.

(Don’t get weird ideas.)

That’s what Mina read from Jiro’s expression, to which she nodded with a casual, cheerful look. Immediately after, Mina turned to Kai and spoke with a voice full of enthusiasm.

“Saito! In this afternoon’s practice, I’m going to show you that you didn’t waste your time on me! That I truly value you training me and that I’ll always be deeply grateful for the amazing opportunity you’ve given me!”

“What’s gotten into you all of a sudden?” Kai asked, somewhat confused as he looked at Mina, who quickly clenched her fist in front of her and spoke firmly.

“Nothing! I just wanted you to know that I’m genuinely thankful from the bottom of my heart for what you’re doing for me, and I won’t let you down! I’m going to be a great hero!”

“Hahaha, I see. I’ll look forward to it.”

Kai said with a cheerful laugh as Nejire slowly brought a spoonful of pudding closer to him. Jiro, though equally surprised by Mina’s sudden outburst, quickly looked at Kai and spoke seriously.

“I’m also very grateful. In fact, all of us are, since we can all see how much stronger we’ve gotten in these weeks. So, if you need anything and it’s within our reach, don’t hesitate to ask. Neither I nor any of the others will refuse.”

Kai looked at Mina and Jiro’s serious expressions for a moment, and a small smile formed on his lips as he spoke in a calm tone.

“Just be heroes. If you can become at least a third of what All Might is, I’ll feel my effort was worth it. And as I’ve said before, you don’t need to worry about ‘repaying’ me for now. All I expect from you is to be strong and use that strength to make this country safer. I have a big family to protect, and if you make this country safer, you’ll make my life a lot easier.”

“You really could be the next Symbol of Peace…”

Jiro couldn’t help but comment with a soft smile on her face, somewhat moved by Kai’s words. The young man with blue eyes turned to eat the pudding from the spoon right beside his mouth, which made Nejire laugh cheerfully before he responded with a disinterested expression.

“I won’t be a hero. I’ve told you that many times. That’s what you’re for. My only job is to protect my family, and I’ll do whatever it takes to achieve that—nothing more, nothing less.”

“It must be amazing to be part of your family…” Mina couldn’t help but say with a strange emotion in her voice. Momo smiled warmly and responded with a voice full of affection and pride.

“It is.”

To Mina, Momo’s response felt like a metaphorical arrow piercing her heart, filling her with equal parts envy and longing. But she quickly shook her head to clear those strange thoughts and started a cheerful conversation that everyone joined until lunchtime ended.

…

“See you in class. I’ll change here.”

Kai said calmly as he watched Momo, followed by Mina and Jiro, leave. Before exiting the workshop, Momo turned to look at Kai and said with a smile.

“Alright, I’ll be waiting for you!”

Soon, the three disappeared from sight. At that moment, Kai turned to look at Nejire beside him, who seemed to have no intention of leaving. But to his surprise, in that very instant, Nejire jumped up and clung to his neck, initiating a passionate kiss—so intense it was as if a woman on the brink of dehydration had tasted water again.

With the workshop door closed, Nejire pulled away from Kai and rested her forehead against his. With flushed cheeks and panting breaths, Nejire looked straight into Kai’s blue eyes and spoke with a voice laden with desire.

“Kai… I want what you did with Momo and Tomoko too…”

“Are you sure you want it here…?”

Kai asked as he slid his hands under Nejire’s uniform skirt, feeling her round, firm buttocks directly, which caught him slightly off guard. Seeing the surprise on Kai’s face, Nejire gave him a mischievous smile before unbuttoning her uniform vest and the shirt underneath.

With an expression full of lust, Nejire revealed her large breasts, barely covered by a sexy white strappy bra. She then lifted her skirt, exposing a tiny matching thong. Delighted by the desire in Kai’s eyes, Nejire leaned in to nibble his ear gently and whispered in a soft voice.

“Not my first time, but we can take a few minutes, right? I want to do things to you like you did to Momo~”

“Such a naughty girl…” Kai gripped Nejire’s juicy backside firmly, causing her to let out a restrained moan before whispering in a sensual voice, worlds apart from her usual energetic and innocent demeanor.

“Only for my man…”
