Chapter 81:Psychology
The class was eye-opening in many different ways. The entire thing was about how which monster girls one bonded to affected their mental state.
Unlike humans whose emotions were often subject to change over the most mundane of things, monster girls tended to be much more stable.
They could still develop personality traits and quirks over time but their overall thought processes stayed relatively the same.
What that meant was that a demon would almost always act and behave like a demon and an angel, always like an angel.
Sure, there were monster girls that did not follow this 'natural' trend, Miss Cydaea used herself as an example. But they were rare and many a time, as in her case, artificial. Essentially they were the exception and not the rule.
Simon was confused at what artificial meant but did not want to interrupt her. He knew from the gossips and murmurs that most of this was old material and it was being revised for his benefit.
They also did not have many of the psychological nuances of humans, the most well-known being that they did not have any existentialistic thoughts, even ones that are considered far superior to humans in intellectual capacity could care less of 'making a difference' and would happily wag their metaphorical tail for the first Tamer that catches their eye.
That was their entire purpose, they existed to be tamed.
Although not proven, many scholars believe that the world designed them as a way to harvest its greatest resource, humans.
When Simon had asked for clarification when it looked like she may be taking questions, he was told in a very kind and considerate manner to visit the library or ask one of the more theology-centric teachers. It was not Miss Cydaea's place to discuss his questions and she could only give him cursory information.
Back to the topic, there were exceptions to this, extraplanar entities or 'outsiders' such as angels and demons often had desires and goals outside of bonding but would it was still a great and desirable boon to them.
Some legendary monsters also had this mental trait and would sometimes band together to make the infamous monster cities.
But again the exception, not the rule. Even then the power of the bond would overturn their previous desires and morph them in a way to incorporate their tamer in some fashion.
In the end, what happened was that they, through action or general behavior, would change their tamers to be more like themselves.
The process could be fast or slow but it always happened especially because upon a full bond they were stuck with each other for the rest of eternity. The changes could be minute or large but every possible research showed that change was inevitable. Especially if someone bonded with the same kind of monster girl.
Some people argue that human emotions were always subject to change and their environment played a vital role so this should not be considered as anything of note.
But this argument fell apart long ago when the 'Great Collapse' happened when two demon specialists became so warped by their demons that they brought about cataclysmic changes that could still be felt to this day.
Nowadays, people were more wary of these changes and a lot more time and research went into figuring out how they happened and why they could be so destructive.
The answer was differences in ideologies, monster girls were normally very basic and despite being able to have a wide range of thoughts and feelings it always boiled down to hunger and their tamer.
The planar monster girls were the pinnacle of this rule and in fact, were the safest. Because even dragons with their magical madness would not care much outside of their tamer. They would not even care if the tamer got stronger or weaker. All they cared about was being with their tamer. The tamer had agency and even if he picked up some general quirks, like a dragon's laziness or their obsession with hoarding it was fine. They had no overarching goal they were trying to achieve.
But, what happened when the monster girl had a goal outside of the basics? That was when things could go messy.
For example, an angel wanted to spread the word of the Celestial plane and the divine entities that ruled from the Heavenly cities. Tamers built many different churches across the world.
Another and far more sinister example, a cunning demon obsessed with power comes to earth. We get the demon kings and the 'Great Collapse'.
Simon did not like this argument, it suggested that everything wrong with the world was the fault of monster girls. From what he knew, humans had a lot of agency as they were always the ones on top in this relationship. Sure, statistically sometimes the monster girl would have the upper hand but as his teacher had said, the exception, not the rule. He did not like how monster girls were being portrayed but he kept quiet and listened.
Then came something he hated to even think about. There are magical processes to 'reset' monster girls removing all personalities they had developed over time and even modifying their thought processes to be more acceptable to society. That was revolting. The thought of Amy or Stella no longer being Amy or Stella pissed him off.
What was downright heartbreaking was what she ended the class with. Cydaea claimed herself to be once an evil demon who was fixed by the university using an experimental process. It made her a kind and caring teacher who would do anything for her students.
Nobody seemed to mind or care about how fucked up this all sounded and he booked it out of there so quickly that the mass of students who were all curious about him could not even begin to approach him.
He ran at inhuman speeds ignoring the mental connection his pitiful succubus teacher tried throwing his way. He was in no mood for that. He had some very tough questions, and they needed answers, immediately.
His destination was the massive greenhouse where Flora sat. He needed clarity and did not think any of the Tamers would give him what he really wanted to know. Hopefully, the plant girl could.
