Chapter 61: Easy first floor
When someone suffers an ambush, they were always on the back foot. Simon had this fact beaten repeatedly into his head.
So he was currently confused, he counted fifteen assailants, and in under a second, it was reduced to zero...
"Damn... That aura feels good..."
Rana had a fierce smile on her face, the blood on her sword already disappearing into the magical ether.
She killed the least among his companions, but given that all she got out was a single swipe of her massive scimitar, three kills was impressive.
Amy slaughtered a group of four in a single leap using fang and claw to tear into them in a whirlwind of blood and gore.
The winner, however, was Stella who annihilated the rest without even moving from her spot. Small portals appeared all around her as she rapidly stabbed through her hands a blur.
Just like that, it was over, and to signify this all the gore dissipated into magical particles leaving small gem-like spheres on the ground.
Simon knew what these were, namely the hearts of monster girls and the thing most important part of a monster girl, and as long as there was a glow in that core, the monster girl was still alive.
A thing that happened during the completion of a bond was that the core moved inside the tamer, making the monster girl 'immune' to death as long as the tamer lived.
However, very few cores could withstand the destruction of a monster girl's body and these were certainly not among them as none of the cores had any luminescence in them.
With the same agility as she had when she took care of all the monster girls, Stella scooped up every core and they disappeared inside a portal.
She then nodded her head, as if having finished her job and jumped to Simon in a manner that made him aware of what she wanted. Namely head pats. Amy was not far behind.
"Well, isn't this something..."
Rana was swinging her blade while deep in thought. Her focus then turned to him as he was back to what she thought was his normal state. His petting state.
"You see new shit every day..."
She then turned more serious as she said.
"You are an insane force multiplayer."
"Hmm?"
Stella and Amy were rubbing on him and given Amy's current combat size, he was practically drowning in cuteness and softness.
"Any physical unit on your side gains a massive power boost. I am practically fighting at a tier above mine."
"Come on. Let us find the 'floor ascension'. That is the name of the magic circle that will teleport us to the next floor."
She continued as the scimitar disappeared and the orc monster girl started to move and so he followed, cutting the quality time of Stella and Amy short(something they did not appreciate but did not grumble about).
"Every dungeon has a set number of floors based on their tier. tier 1 is five, tier 2 is ten and tier 3 is fifteen and so on. There are three ways to get out of a dungeon. An escape portal that has a small chance of appearing at the 'floor ascension', escape zone, or beating the final guardian at the end of the dungeon."
She then gave him a toothy smirk.
"Given the ease with which we dealt with the ambush, we might even beat the dungeon. But the chances are not in our favor so the first escape zone we see, we book it. Understand?"
"Yes."
"Good."
The delve through the first floor felt more like a casual trek as any monster or monster girl they faced was taken out in a single blow by Stella most of the time.
Out of everyone here, she seemed the most effective at dealing with threats before they even became a problem.
They even faced two more ambushes which was a very 'event' that can happen.
"Events are occurrences that can happen randomly as you explore a dungeon. Unlike most other things, events can have either a positive or negative outcome. Like if you are lucky, a chest containing a rare item or wealth may pop into existence."
Or so their guide and supervisor said.
The only event Simon seemed to be getting was ambushes. Though that was not much of a threat as each ambush was dispatched very rapidly.
Everything was going fine so much so he was getting annoyed at the goosebumps he was constantly being subjected to.
Everything around him suggested that they were doing fine traversing the vegetated magic zone but his gut was trying to constantly warn him about danger.
It was like he was being constantly watched.
In a couple of hours of trekking, fighting and even more easily dispatched ambushes, they finally arrived at what looked like a pink magic circle on the ground.
"That is the magic circle we are looking for... if it is not a trap. Alright lesson time! a pink circle like that means we are going down. A blue one is one for getting out. But as with everything in the dungeon, there is always a possibility that it is a trap."
As she said those words she looked around for a decently sized rock and chucked inside the circle, when nothing happened she nodded.
"The chances of the ascension zone or escape zone being a trap is very low, and at these low tiers it is practically none but..."
"Complacency has been the death of many tamers."
"Good! Now let's step on the circle!"
With that Simon and his entire party walked into the circle where they were whisked away to the second floor.
