Chapter 36:Daiki’s Words part 2
Daiki held up his hands.
"Sorry. Sorry. Looks like I hit a nerve. Can we move on?"
He looked apologetic even if his words seemed dismissive.
The gesture was appreciated and it was hard to stay angry when the victim did not care.
Amy was currently too busy trying to cover him in slobber and she did at all seem to mind that offensive remark.
"Alright. Fine." He said a small bite remained in his voice as his anger was yet to completely subside.
The green-haired boy sighed as he shook his head.
He might have struck a nerve and lost quite a bit of favor in his first impression but he was not worried. In doing so he found out his stance on monster girls and that answer was worth the poor reception.
There was also the fact that this was not the first time he had to woo an angry customer, and he believed himself to be quite good at it.
"You care about your monster girl a lot, huh?"
Daiki played it up by injecting a lot of emotion into his voice hoping to push Simon's thoughts elsewhere.
And it worked almost immediately.
The newcomer embraced his dog in a massive embrace as he said.
"A lot..." Simon squeezed Amy and put his head on top of hers while she made a very happy *arf*.
The words were few but the emotion behind them could be felt and as someone who needed to navigate a lot of intrigues, Daiki was good at parsing it.
There was an undertone of loneliness and dependency but it was underneath a tsunami of warmth and love. The feelings were genuine and very heartwarming.
Daiki could not help but stroke his own armor which in turn started sending out small wooden shoots to wrap around his hands.
This was so incredibly rare in this day and age.
Everybody was so swept up in using monster girls as useful tools that they ignored that those precious beings also had thoughts and feelings. They just happened to love their tamers or even the thought of eventually bonding with a tamer that they were willing to run themselves ragged.
They did it with a smile on their face and people forgot that even monster girls could suffer trauma and be hurt. They just happened to be very resilient and hide their pain if they thought they would inconvenience their tamer.
A feeling of warmth spread around Daiki as his monster girls slowly tried to wrap themselves around him and it pierced past all of the petty politics he needed to play.
"You know what?... Screw the bullshit!"
What he was about to do was incredibly risky but he could not help but be driven by the pure emotions the pair in front of him shared.
Simon who had gone to his own little world was startled out of it by Daiki's sudden proclamation.
"Simon! Promise me something." He continued leaving the puppy-hugging boy very confused.
"What is it?" He asked warily.
"Never lose that feeling you share with your monster girl. Regardless of what happens never lose the emotional bond you two share. Please, never take that bond for granted." Daiki turned pleading by the end, his hands clutching his wooden armor hard as he said this.
Both Simon and Amy were staring at him now and both of their heads tilted in perfect synergy.
"Why would I ever not love something that by design loved me unconditionally?" He asked in confusion.
Daiki barked out a laugh but there was no mirth in his eyes.
"You would be surprised at the sheer depravity of the human race."
Bitterness and hate poured out of every word he said.
Simon could feel the negative feelings oozing out of him but had no context as to why his demeanor had shifted so drastically.
"Are you okay?..." He asked, worried.
His anger was forgotten at this point and he was now trying to make sense of what was going on.
"Just remembered some stupid shit from my past is all... Never mind that! So you promise you will always love your monster girls?"
Daiki asked.
Simon felt that this was a distraction to steer him away, but again he was incredibly new to all this and he did know the guy enough to care to dig. So he answered.
"Yes." Again he thought the answer was obvious but since the green-haired boy was making a big deal out of it he answered in kind. He put as much emotion as he could into that one word.
Amy in response did a happy *arf!* and started slobbering him up again. Simon sighed, he had just begun to dry from her last one, Amy was feeling very playful today for some odd reason.
Daiki leaned back into the slime sofa upon hearing his words, the air around him shifting back to normal.
"That was fucking doozy wasn't it..." He said, his smile was now a wry one.
Simon nodded, that was an understatement, he could barely follow what was going on and even now he was unsure what was going on. One thing was for sure, Daiki was one weird dude.
"Since you gave me a promise here is one from me. When we become better pals I will tell you why I said all this weird shit today." He said with certainty in his voice.
Simon snorted as he bit back.
"What makes you think we will be friends?"
He did not know much about Daiki but first impressions suggested he stayed the hell away from the dude.
"Trust me, my dude. I know these things and we two are gonna be two peas in a pod." Daiki said with confidence.
"That makes no sense and what even are peas in a pod?" Simon retorted.
