A Father’s Story Part 3

Since then, I have been working for the "organization," executing all kinds of missions in which I have witnessed unthinkable horrors and the infinite malice that can reside within the human heart.

Take, for instance, the outbreak of a virus that transformed the infected into whatever they most desired to be... At first, the premise seemed like something positive, a miracle of sorts. However, it didn't take long for me to discover the darkest and most destructive side of that phenomenon.

That virus literally rewrote human flesh and mind to turn people into their deepest desires, regardless of whether what they wanted to be was human or not. In a matter of hours, that entire city turned into absolute chaos.

Adults were the ones who initially derived some benefit from the virus, turning into perfected versions of themselves and seeing their ideals materialized. But the real issue lay with the children; they transformed into all kinds of beings that unleashed disaster everywhere.

Princesses with real power, combat robots, fire-breathing dragons, dark sorcerers, misshapen monsters, and comic book heroes... There was a bit of everything walking down the streets, destroying structures and causing mass panic in the most innocent and oblivious way possible.

In the end, the entire city had to be placed under strict quarantine and relocated into what the higher-ups refer to as the "veil." Since that day, civil society no longer remembers the existence of that metropolis or its mysterious disappearance from the maps.

And that was merely one of the cases that concluded in a relatively peaceful manner.

Throughout all this time, I have relentlessly pursued the origin of the possession drug, but the deeper I dig into this search, the more horrifying I find the madness of those who consume it and the atrocities they commit against innocent lives.

Currently, one of the most wanted criminals in this sector is a man who takes control of random people's bodies, solely to experiment with how far he can shatter their mental health within a set timeframe before abandoning the empty vessel. Among the crimes committed using stolen identities are murders, exhibitionism, public indecency, and acts of terrorism.

"Haaah... Honestly, carrying this weight on my chest is suffocating..."

But I cannot afford to hesitate or stop. I won't, not until I find a way to free my wife from mind control and reclaim the life that was stolen from me.

"Anyway... There is work to be done today as well."

This morning brought reports of the reappearance of the mass kidnapping victims caused by that recent paranormal phenomenon. However, almost everyone involved presents severe mental disorders, having formed pairs across various ages, same sexes, and even blood relations as a result of the psychological trance they endured. None of them seem capable of reintegrating into society in their current state.

A clear example of this was the woman I had to speak with during an evaluation interview.

According to her file, she was a promising university student who aspired to become a radio host. Yet throughout the entire session, she was unable to articulate a single coherent response; she merely muttered under her breath that she would never forgive what happened while touching herself frantically in the chair.

Leaving these people unsupervised would pose a massive danger, so our immediate duty is to classify the information, cover up the incident before the press, and provide containment for those affected.

This job is by no means easy, but someone has to shoulder the burden in the shadows for the greater good.
