【 CHRONICLE OF THE FALL OF KY'LAR AND THE ADVENT OF THE ERA OF CHAOS 】
[Author: Chief Scholar of the Grand Library]
[Location: Borders of the Ky'lar Region (Former Great Mystical Forest)]
[Date: Unknown Year of the Era of Chaos]
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The Great Forest of Ky'lar—the oldest and vastest woodland known to our civilization—was extinguished in a single night. Subsequent reports agree that the first signs of the disaster manifested as a violent turmoil in the flow of ambient magic. Being the closest nation to the forest's borders, the paladins of the Holy Kingdom deployed immediately to the surrounding areas. However, they confined themselves to merely observing from a distance. When arbitration courts demanded explanations for their passivity in the face of danger, the knight commander testified under oath that they had received a direct oracle from the Goddess of Creation: a strict command not to intervene under the threat of eternal damnation.
In the face of the Holy Kingdom's military paralysis, the first expedition to venture into the epicenter was not an army, but an emergency joint delegation organized by the Elven Queen, who fortunately happened to be on an official visit to the capital while the high spheres of power succumbed to panic. What that delegation uncovered defied the logic of modern scholarship. The depths of the forest had transformed into the stage for an unprecedented war between the Primordial Elemental Spirits and unknown invaders from beyond this world.
The repercussions of that mystical battle shattered the global climate. The earth trembled across both hemispheres; frigid gusts triggered destructive blizzards in traditionally warm valleys, and the natural energy of the realm was completely distorted. Amid the panic and ruin, the expedition's historians compiled accounts of an unprecedented celestial phenomenon, dubbed by anonymous sources as "the aurora." It was under that mantle of aberrant lights that witnesses beheld the definitive event: from the highest reaches of the firmament, a star fell directly onto the heart of the forest. Upon impact, the area was reduced to absolute nothingness.
Yet the descent of that celestial body did not end in an ordinary crater. The shock triggered a planetary-scale energy collapse that fractured the very geological structure of Ky'lar, fragmenting the entirety of the terrestrial crust. Vast expanses of land and entire continents were torn from their bedrock foundations, rising into the skies to remain suspended, floating adrift.
This drastic topographical alteration destroyed the network of Dragon Lines—the primordial arteries that circulated sap and natural energy through the planet's depths. Deprived of their original channels, these mystical currents turned aggressive and uncontrollable, giving rise to permanent environmental anomalies. Vast exclusion zones emerged where the climate has become so extreme and unpredictable that the survival of ordinary life is impossible. Thus, the foundations of this new Era of Chaos were forged.
The theological and political consequences fractured the map as we knew it. Following the cataclysm, the Elemental Spirits—the ancient guardians of the world—vanished almost entirely, fading into myths of rare occurrence. In the void left by their absence, a new force emerged from the shadows: the Cult of the Fallen Stars, a mysterious organization guided by six enigmatic figures known as the Dissonant Stars.
While the continent fractured, chronicles in the city of Flambell recorded two opposing events. On one hand, the awakening of the young swordsman Shija. Having remained in critical condition after repelling the attack of a fallen goddess, the youth regained consciousness and was officially decorated as the Hero of the Sword, sparking the legends that inspire our knights today. On the other hand, the chronicles detail the discovery of Seraphina.
Regarded by many as the reincarnation of the Demon God, Seraphina was found emerging unscathed from the very impact point of the star—the exact site where both the high spirits and the outer invaders are theorized to have perished. Because of this, high-ranking circles still fiercely debate whether the catastrophe was an accidental event or a premeditated scheme of her making.
This latter hypothesis gained overwhelming momentum upon her return. Seraphina not only emerged with power infinitely superior to before, but also escorted by hordes of new monsters, consolidating absolute military hegemony within an alarmingly short span. A testament to this expansion was the swift downfall of the neighboring Kingdom of Cylas, whose rulers and troops submitted in tears of helplessness. Defining themselves ever since as combatants under her banner, popular belief suggests that Seraphina corrupted them all entirely, extending that control even over the Saint of the Sword.
However, the definitive sign that branded her in the eyes of the public as the mastermind of the calamity occurred during a direct interview granted to the official delegation. When questioned regarding her stance on the destruction of Ky'lar, the magnitude of her new power, and her dominant position, her sole response was a smile and a single phrase: “This era couldn't be better!” Immediately after, a mysterious explosion abruptly terminated the audience, marking the formal start of open hostilities against the noble dragon race.
And so, beneath the weight of these events, the world of Ky'lar has changed irreversibly. Confronted with the threat of the Demon God, the Holy Kingdom has abandoned its passive stance to assume an openly belligerent role, uniting half the continent in a massive crusade to eradicate Seraphina.
Nevertheless, as the author of these records, I refuse to accept the superficial versions spread in public squares and royal courts. The truth behind the calamity, the disappearance of the elemental entities, and the true origin of this era remain shrouded in dense mist. After long days of investigation, I have concluded that the answers are not to be found in palaces or religious dogmas, but at the very root where it all began: within the fractured depths of the Dragon Lines, now known as the Ethereal Canyon.
