CHAPTER 1: Nice guys finish last. (2026 update)

So, this is how I go out. Having the shit kicked out of me as the “Love of my life” is making out with the guy responsible. fucking pathetic-

*URUUUUGHHHHHAAAAAA* I grunted before a stream of vomit poured onto the ground. This is the 3rd gut punch I've gotten from this gigantic fool. I didn't think I had any more vomit in me.

"HAHAHAH AGAIN AGAIN! But this time hit him in that tiny dick of his!" My eyes glared at the blonde-haired bitch I once called girlfriend. I swear to what god is out there when I get out of here ill ring that neck of hers till she-

*GYARGHHHH* I screamed in pain again as a Jolt of lightning shot up my body, forcing all the air out of me. I felt my stomach begin to twist and turn. I knew what was coming and tried to hold it back, but it was useless. Vomit shot out of my mouth straight onto the black commando boots buried in my groin.

“Haha. Good shot, Aaron.” I wearily raised my head in the direction of the voice. It was the arsehole responsible for this. I didn’t know his name, but only an alias, “G". This sadistic bastard watched in glee as he groped that bitch's breasts in front of me.

“Thanks, boss”, I looked up towards the giant idiot. He had a stupid grin on his face like he was a child receiving an award from the teacher. I felt anger well up inside of me. The fact that I was outsmarted and captured by these morons hurts more than the pain in my crotch.

"Just kill me already", I spat out.

G chuckled. "C'mon, detective, at least try and play along. Dont you want to know why your girlfriend cheated on you?"

"Ha, cheat? I know her, that bitch didn't cheat, she was with you the whole time. Elyssa isnt smart enough to cheat. This whole thing was your idea wasnt it?

Elissa snapped back towards me, eyes blazing with rage. Fucking predictable little bitch, isn't she? She opened her mouth to say something, but that asshole stopped her.

“Don’t waste your breath, baby. He's just trying to wind you up and buy time. Little does he know nobody is coming to save him. I made sure."  He got up from his chair and walked up towards me. I looked up and saw his face. He had black, unkempt hair and a face covered in scars. He had one completely grey, which looked like it had been punched out at some point.

*SMACK*

His hand flew across my face and nearly knocked the lights out of me.

He crouched down to my level. “You have no idea how long I wanted to do that detective. You know this whole thing could have been avoided if you just taken the bribes like everyone in your police department. But noooo. You just had to BE THE HERO.” He smacked me across the head again; I nearly blacked out with that one.

“You see, detective, unlike most people, you're too cautious. I couldn’t just treat you like I would a regular person. No. I needed you to lower your guard, and that’s where our friend Elissa came in.”

He looked over his shoulder towards that harlot. She looked back at me and blew me a kiss before giving me the finger. “G”, Then turned back around with a smug look on his face. The anger inside me was like a violent tsunami. If I weren’t tied to this chair, I would murder the both of them.”

*SMACK*

“PAY ATTENTION WHEN I'M TALKING, " he yelled. My head felt like it was going to come off with that one. fuck where does this gorilla strength come from? If i was stronger i could...I could.

I shook my head, put a defiant look on my face, and looked into his eyes. “What? Don’t like it when you’re not the centre of attention?” I said mockingly, "Does gloating about this make you feel better? I expected better from you "G""

His face rapidly contorted with anger, but just as quickly, he calmed down and took a few seconds to compose himself. “Mocking me wont help you paul. And besides, I know you. You're dying to know how, right? What did you miss? How it was under your nose for so long. you cant hide it from me"

I glared towards him. doing my best poker face. He's right i want to know. but i cant give him the satisfaction.

"As I was saying. Elissa worked tirelessly to get you to trust her. Get you to believe in her. To get you to the point where you would do almost anything for her. HAHAHA. I laughed when she told me she convinced you to buy her a brand-new Mercedes. How pathetic”

He continued to explain everything to me, like how he faked Elissa’s kidnapping to lure me here and how some of my friends in the police force were directly involved in my capture.

With everything, he told me I felt the sharp nails of betrayal stab into me, and the worst part is that I fell for it. Hook, line and sinker. GOD, I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!.

“The only disappointing part of all of this is how easy it was. You good guy types are so easy to manipulate that it's kind of sad. All I need to do is threaten a few people here, kidnap some here and kill a few in between, and you guys come running. You need to realise that there is only one thing that matters in this world: power. Those with power can achieve anything they want. But those without get crushed, used and thrown to the wayside like garbage. Kind of like you. Even right now, I know you're thinking, if you had a bit more power, you could break out and murder me, huh. well toobad. This is reality. not some fucking book.”

He stood up and sighed. “I’ve talked too much”. He snapped his fingers, and 5 men dressed in full black came out from a door in the far side of the warehouse. One was holding a bin liner, another a metal saw, and the rest baseball bats.

“Kill him slowly and dispose of his body in the swamp. I hear the alligators are quite hungry at this time.” G said as he walked off with Elissa.

One of the men walked up to me. With his baseball bat scraping the ground. “Oh, I’m going to enjoy beating up this piece of meat.” I looked up at him and smiled. “With those noodle arms, I probably won’t feel it”, I mocked. The man’s face bent with fury as he ran up to me and smashed the bat across my head, nearly knocking me unconscious. Waves of pain washed through my head. I felt blood trickle down the side of my face. The other 2 with bats joined in, and they kept hitting me. I heard my bones crack, and blood seeped from every part of my body. They continued to hit me and hit me until my vision started to go. The worst part of all of this was not the beating but the fact that “G” was right about me. I was too kind. I was too good, and I paid the price for it. I guess the saying “nice guys finish last” has more truth to it than I thought.

The beatings continued to rain down on me. I was sure most of, if not all, the bones in my body were broken. It's only a matter of time till I either bleed out or they beat me to death. Fuck. In my next life, I will make sure this never happens to me again. Not only that, but I will also attain as much power as possible. Even if the world has to burn for it.

The beating continued for what felt like forever until, eventually, my vision dwindled to nothing.
